Anyone ever bought a used catalytic converter?
Just to cheer you all up, lol - the engine management light came on the IS on the way home from work yesterday. Car didn't seem any different and is still running fine. Took it into Lexus Teesside who rang a diagnostic & said it looks like the cat is fubar'd (bloody marvellous) and that would be £1000 to fix. I paid peanuts for the car really so am not overly bothered, but I am categorically not spending anything like that on it. I've looked on the Bay and there are loads of cats on there, varying prices eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS200-Mk1-2-0-Main-Catalytic-Converter-CAT-/261048023281?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cc7acb8f1 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/exhaust-catalytic-converter-lexus-is200-99-05-breaking-sheffield-/250867346871?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a68dbedb7 My mechanic Phil doesn't do exhausts but he takes his own cars to a decent local exhaust place I've used a few times and they've always done a good job (they've even done stuff for free for me, Marc reckons the bloke in there fancies me :shifty: ), I know they'd fit a used part for me although I will enquire how much they could do the whole job for me. I don't mind spending a bit of money on this car, as despite the 130k miles on it, it still drives beautifully & I'm saving on running & insurance costs but I'm never ever gonna pay Lexus a grand to fix a car valued at £1900!! Cheers JAnus

So, we've got a new car....
Lexi is most definitely the plural for multiple Lexus! Well, it is according to Alan P, and thats good enough for me lol. I have watched that show to death and I still cack myself laughing

So, we've got a new car....
Hey, we had the GS for 7 months! Thats almost a record for us lol!! I cannot believe how crippling the running costs had got with the GS, the insurance doubled since we got it, so when this IS went up for sale locally and we got a decent part ex, it was a no brainer really. Its a shame about Steams knickers tho, thought his fetish was a well kept secret?

Cheers Al! I rather like my music and motor choice too, well happy!

So, we've got a new car....
Only an import I believe, its a 3l turbo. Thanks for the comments guys, the commute to work today was bloody brilliant. Nothing like a bit of Above & Beyond loud at 7am before a 12 hour nursing shift to get your brain in gear! Shame I got into Redcar at the same time as the olympic torch, I was almost late for my first shift!

My S3 - Reborn!
That's a lovely looking car.

So, we've got a new car....
Thanks all, took it out for a long-ish spin last night and I have to say, its a lovely car to drive. Love the handling, the steering is bloody brilliant. I also love the dials on the dash, can't believe its a 13 year old car, considering the GS was 16 yrs old (and it was looking quite dated I guess) Stellaz - they took our GS in part ex, and I didn't have to put a lot of wad into the deal to be honest! Hoping the better fuel economy & the considerably lower insurance (with an agreed value of £1900, woohoo!) will justify the spend tho. I start a 9 week placement tomorrow in Redcar, it'll be the first time I've driven to work in over 2 years! Suspect the travelling will be the best part of the day as my placement is in a nursing home, which I am dreading, lol. I just need to give it one of my deep cleans and G3 it & get the Meguiars on it to make it super shiny. Alloys are a bit tatty but the interior is mint. Well chuffed with it!

So, we've got a new car....
It was a very sad goodbye to our lovely Lexus GS300 yesterday. 7 months & she never missed a beat. Cost of fuelling a 3l auto was beginning to cripple us tho so we part exed her for an IS 200. Still a 2l but a manual & more importantly the insurance is about a third cheaper which was another major cost factor sadly. Will upload some pics when I've had a chance to make her shiny (if it ever stops raining!) Hope everyone is well :)

Hello!
Cheers Richard, married life is fab thanks and nursing is awesome thanks. Hard work, mentally and emotionally draining at times, but I'm so glad I found the right career eventually (it took me long enough, lol!)

Hello!
I didn't know you'd sold the M3! That must have been heart breaking. What are you driving now? Yeah, I had spotted one or two pics of your son. He's sooooo scrummy. We need a meet up that you actually attend so I can have Charlie cuddles!! Thanks for the good luck, the exam went well I think, now I just have 3 weeks holiday, woohoo!!!!

Hello!
Big Jim sold a car?!! Never! Well, now here's a scoop - *whispers* - I still have the Lexus! over 6 months now! It is just about the most perfect family car ever. Resisting temptation to mod the thing and spend money we don't have!!

Hello!
Cheers Dude, I miss being on here, but I just seem to run out of time, there's so much reading to do for my course! Looking forward to a couple of weeks off (one whilst Tash is still at school, woo, gym, reading novels, surfing, yay!) just to see what everyone's doing with their cars now the weather is more Zed friendly! J x

Hello!
Hope everyone is ok, so sorry I'm never on here these days. This nurse training malarky is pretty time consuming, funnily enough!! Will try to have a catch up in the coming weeks as I have a bit of time off before my next long placement. Before that though I have an exam (my first one since 1995, eek!) so I'm off to revise and try not to crap myself lol!! J xx

Evening all
Cheers fellas! I wish I could get another Zed, long way off yet, maybe after I've qualified! The Lexus is still fab though, did us proud on a trip from Teesside down south via London, onto Pompey and then to Wiltshire, so she'll do us well for now :flowers:
