Manual TT project for sale
Hi all After many years with my project car I need to face the reality that, due to divorce, its time to sell up. The car is a Black Jap import TT short wheel base, manual conversion with lots of mods. It starts and drives but currently not on the road as the interior and seats not fitted - but when on the road it was an absolute beast... Ill try to list all the mods / main parts that will come with the car here but Im sure i wont remember them all! Selin Dual intake NA pump and rack NICAS deleted AC deleted Decat Under drive pulleys Silicon hoses brand new Z1 electrical harness fitted Stainless down pipes Several stainless exhausts (including some rare ones) Solid engine and gear box mounts Z1 side intakes Lightened fly wheel and comp clutch Z1 single piece Prop shaft Powdercoated NA rear subframe - not fitted NA rear diff - fully rebuilt and not fitted Race logic Traction control Rare in cabin engine parameter display system After market gauges (new and unfitted) Lowered with Tein shocks Spare After market shocks (brand new not fitted) Z1 upper suspension mounts (brand new) Various rose joints and suspension parts (not fitted) Several bonnets including one Carbon 99 spec front bumper and lip spoiler Twinz designs rear bumper brand new not fitted Rare aftermarket mirrors (not fitted) Blacked out lights Battery relocated to boot Alcantara blue interior trim (not fitted) spare spoiler after market wheel and bran new tyres spare doors spare engine spare gear box lots of various other parts to many to list Bad parts - some rust in the rear sills and not on road due to interior needing re fitment and general tidy up and finishing. Will need to be trailer-ed away - I can deliver within reasons. I am open to (realistic) offers but i need a quick sale. Ill post up more pictures when i get a chance Mark

How to value a Zed..?
Thanks to everyone who has offered advice - some great stuff. I tried we buy any car but it didn't recognise the reg and i could find it listed in the menu options - but ill try a few others. Regarding solicitors arguing over niff naff - i am absolutely seeing this from her side ( i got a letter accusing me of taking a small pot of sugar - i kid you not) - i am trying to avoid it as we will spend thousands arguing over hundreds. its totally ridiculous and outrageous - the legal system in this country when it comes to these matters is totally unfit for purpose (but i digress...) Anyway - thanks again to all! M

How to value a Zed..?
Thanks Jeff, i think your right to be honest - thing is she doesnt want it, rather she is trying to use its "value" to trade against other assets. i think its worth less than 500

How to value a Zed..?
Hi Guys, I need to get a valuation done on my long term project car (still off the road!) due to getting divorced. Frankly its been neglected for too long and is in a pretty sad state. Its a SWB, Manual conversion, with a few mods - hasn't been on the road for years, has no interior, a knackered engine and gear box. She thinks its a super car with many thousands - I need it not to be! Any idea how to get it valued? Cheers! M

Pair of rear steering outer knuckles or TT hubs
Hi guys, As per title, I am in need of a pair of the ball joints that press into the rear TT hub. Mike at MJP was as helpful as always and has some new ones in stock BUT as I will be changing the entire subframe to an NA in a few months, and the new ones are expensive, I thought I'd see if any one had some second hand ones or hubs in fair condition they would be willing to part with. Thanks all! M

And mot passed!!!! Wow!! I did not spect that tbh!! Need a few parts ( rear steering knuckles) but it's legal!! Hurrah!!

A milestone reached...
Thanks guys - it's far from finished but mentally I needed To drive it. Then at least I'll have an official list of what I need to do before I can start enjoying it on the road as she is, which I think will be very motivational to get the rest done.

Oil leak...

A milestone reached...
Well it's been about 5 years ( that's so embarrassing) in the making but I finally drive my zed on the road today - all the more poignant as it's my birthday! It's mot tomorrow to see what officially needs doing, but it felt great to actually drive it finally! I know I have more work to do - leaky oil from head and a newly discovered lack of synchro on 3rd but still my Perm-a-grin has been reinstalled! M

Oil leak...
Santa, thanks for the offer! I believe I did buy your spoiler - it's hanging in the workshop where it's been ever since - always just one weekend away from being fitted ;) M

Oil leak...
Hi guys, thanks for all the comments and suggestion. Sorry if my description of the location was vague - I didn't know how to describe it! Defo not the half moon cam seal, it's defo leaking at the junction between the head and the block - seeping out where the head gasket is. So it's Almost certainly the head gasket at fault, but it's a weird failure mechanism.... I had a look at one of my spare heads and there is a large oil return gallery that runs near the "lug", so that so probably the source... What I can't fathom is why the gasket would fail there as it's low pressure - nowhere near the combustion chamber or fire rings. I tried to take a photo with my ihone but it was un- unusable. I'll try to find a relevant picture and post it for context....

Oil leak...
My engine has developed a small but steady trickle of oil from the interface between the head and block, at the lug that is at the back of the drivers side bank. It only leaks when the engine is running and takes about a minute before the oil starts to appear, and then weep down the block... I have tightened the m6 bolt than fastens the head to the block in this lug but this hasn't cured it. Has any one seen this before and is there a solution that doesn't involve pulling the head off? :( So frustrating!!

Got mine this afternoon - a bit gimmicky and cheap, but I like it! (What does that say about me I wonder!)

I just bought one of those - can't wait to receive it! I'll wait until it's in my hands before passing judgement if it's hideous ! (And I too have a collection of watches inc breitling)

Thanks to Terry!
Just wanted to publicly acknowledge my huge appreciation to Terry for helping me out massively by providing me some bits free of charge, to get me out of a hole with my dead bottom end and screwed block. You sir, are a gent and I definitely owe you a beer! It's members like Terry that make it such a pleasure to own a zed and be part of this club and community. Now, wheres my spanners...?

from bad, to worse, to terrible....
I have been chasing a problem with my TT engine for a few weeks now - started as a knock on 6, so I stripped the bottom end out with the car on the ramp to investigate Sure enough, No 6 big end bearing was shot... even though it was a very "new" ACL and the rest were fine. I concluded the crank was scored and needed a fuller investigation, so out came the box, and everything else to pull the crank. Took it to my engine builder who inspected and concluded that the journals were still in limits and after a polish could be used. Yet the mystery of why no 6 was shot when the rest were fine bugged me. After some really careful inspection I have concluded that at some point before I owned her, a mystery bolt must have found its way into the bottom end, been clunked by the con rod, hit the bottom of the no 6 cylinder (there is a witness mark of threads "stamped" into the wall at the very bottom of the bore - looks like m6) and bent the cheek of the conrod making the big end slightly oval and pinching the bearing causing massive heat and premature wear. I have been trying to get this car on the road for so so long, and done so much to her, to now find this is really depressing.. I don't know if I can trust anything about the internals at this point. Plus I get smoke on the over run which is suggesting valve seals - even more work... I am so fed up at this point. My options seem to be: strip out the top of the engine, remove piston to get the rod and cap to a machine shop for boring or replacing and change the valve stem seals - which will take weeks of weekends. or does any one have a half reasonable manual TT engine that I can quickly stick in to get me on the road, and then I can build up a really decent engine in slower time to stick in later or take up cross stich and forget about it

Big end knock, scored crank, heartache....
Guys, I posted a while back about dropping the sump with engine in situ to investigate a big end knock on pot 6, which I have now done ( actually very easy to do - hardest part was physically getting the sump off with all the silicon gluing it on!) So, I find that the big ends have been replaced with ACL bearings dated 2007 - I owned the car from about 2008 onwards and it's done probably less than a mile in all that time (embarrassing I know!) as I slowly work through all the issues on her... In other words I suspect it has the problem before and has been poorly repaired previously. 1 to 5 seem fine, but with a little end float (didn't check if it's in spec as it was all coming apart) 6 has a obviously been running hot and has a big score in the bearing shells and a visible and tactile-to-the-finger-nail score in the crank.. The score lines up with the oilwaythat is cross bored into the crank ( is this a standard feature or has it been modified?) I'm thinking that burrs on the edge of the oilway hole has caused the scoring, or a piece of debris has come through the hole and into the bearing... Anyway... I'm after some advice on my options... 1) try to polish out score in crank, fit new bearings and live with it for a year or so during which time I'll build up a high power replacement lump to drop in.. 2) drop crank out and send it away for regrinding 3 fit an na crank that I have in a (currently complete and was healthy on removal) na engine... I believe they are the same cranks I'm desperate to get the car onto the road, so time is a factor in all this... If I didn't love the car so much, I would have given up many many months ago...??? So what to do? Thanks in advance guys! M
