how do i check the timing
There is two ways of doing this. REMEMBER TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF WHEN WORKING ON IT!!!!! 1/ With a timing gun with a clip on type trigger system. 1:run the car untill warm and the rpm settles at 700/750rpm 2:Clip the power lead of the timing light to the relitive positive and negtive of the battery 3:clip the trigger lead of the timing light to the signal link of the ptu. this is a small loop of black wire that sticks out of the harness at the ptu end. Do this with the engine switched off due to fingers and fan! 4:Turn the engine on and check rpm at 700/750. Shine the timing light vertically down on to the main crank pulley, and read where the pulley mark lines up on the timming scale. this should read 15 BTDC @700/750rpm 5: If your reading is incorrect, slacken the three bolts holding the CAS and turn clock or anti clock to move your reading to read 15BTDC. 6: Tighten the bolts of the CAS when satisfied you have a correct setting. repeat item 4 to check nothing has moved whilst tightening the CAS bolts. 2/ With timing light with HT type trigger 1: warm engine up to achive 700/750rpm idle as above. 2: remove coil pack on number 1 piston and split the upper part from the coil extention rod. (This is just a push fit rubber) 3: Push the HT extention rod back on to the spark plug, with a short HT lead insert the timing light trigger in line between the coilpack and the extention rod 4: Time the engine as the same as with a clip on type timing lamp. There you go easy really should not take more than 1 hour including warming the car up :D Allan
