  1. Just a quick thank you to John (jmwuk) for the loan of the PTU. It was nice to meet you and the missus mate. Nice car buddy and excellent tea aswell :cool3: The sooner the decorating is done the sooner you can get going on the Zed again  Thanks again, Daffy.
  2. Does it make a big difference? I.e is it detrimental to either the engine itself, or performance? Using 95 that is.
  3. Newbie alert!! I've only just aquired a JDM TT. What fuel should i be using (when i get it going)? Is "normal" unleaded not the way forward?
  4. Thanks Murt. Yep, series2 PTU on its way from the good old US of A!
  5. It's already started, just ordered a new PTU. Got a feeling this is just the beginning of an expensive love/hate relationship.
  6. Welcome to Z ownership me thinks :scared: It's ordered and paid for. Hurry up Mr UPS!!!
  7. A quick thanks for all your advice guys. Gave Mark a bell today and he's pointed me in the right direction, cheers buddy. So now i just need to find a series2 ptu. Any out there? Or a known working series1 one, for the mean time? Gonna post a thread in the wanted section. Nice one fellas.
  8. I'm even closer, I'm only in Twyford. Made up someone off here is that close and comes highly recommended. Good times.
  9. Thanks alot guys, appreciate all the help/advice. My mechanical brilliance was short lived unfortunately :crying: Took the car out after thinking i'd fixed it, gave it a good clean as a thank you(as you do!), then she started first time only to die on me again!!! Didn't even make it off the drive. Went through all of the above again but no luck. Really glad to know you're only in Ascot Mark, not just because of this fiasco but really want someone who knows their stuff to give the car the once over and advise on what needs doing. And i want to see Trumpton for real  Best to get it done sooner rather than later me thinks?! Thanks again guys, is it ok to call you tomorrow Mark?
  10. Forgot to say, all i did was disconnect the ptu and cas and clean them as advised. Did try it yesterday but obviously didn't try hard enough. OOOOPS. Went straight out for a drive and she cut out on me twice. Fiddled with both again and managed to get it going. Pretty sure it's the cas as i tried that second. Is it okay to spray with WD40? Sorry for my lack of knowledge and dumbass questions. Just want to drive it without worrying, and far enough to get it Conzulted and have any work done that needs doing. Cheers guys.
  11. :gunsmilie:RESULT!!! Thanks guys. This forum is definately the place to be. Followed the advice offered here and on previous threads and to my utter surprise she started!! All for the princely sum of 99p on a pack of emery boards:cool2: I'm off for a drive, thanks for your help guys. Guessing it's time to call Zedworld. That's the impression i get from the forum. It's a bit of a trek though. Anyone nearer who could give it the once over first? Or i've heard Kent is nice when the suns out
  12. I was letting it warm up as per usual before i drove it then it just cut out on me! All lights seemed to come on as normal, the car turns over okay but won't fire. After looking around the forum i can only assume it's ptu/cas or even immobilisor related? Unfortunately that means nothing to me. Got a mate to come round and he checked the fuel was getting through, which it is. Then checked one of the plugs against the plenum, NO spark. I've found the whereabouts of the ptu and cas thanks to pictures on here but don't know what i'm looking for when i get to them?! I really wish I knew even a little bit as it's doing my head in, and feel proper useless. I'm a builder by trade but know absolutely jack about engines.
  13. I have recently aquired my first 300zx. It's a JDM TT slicktop. After a trouble free first 400miles i now can't get it to start. I am mechanically incompetent unfortunately:sad: So i was wondering if you guys know of anyone in the Reading area who might be able to help?? Beer tokens and tea/coffee at the ready. Really appreciate any help you can give me on this. Would like my Zed fettled with by somebody in the know and i'm pretty sure this is the place to find them. Thanks in advance, Daffy.
  14. Hope it turns out to be small. I need to get it started so i can get it to JeffTT, that was the plan anyway. I have no problem in buying a new PTU if that's what it needs. Anyone in my area (Twyford, RG10) who you guys could recommend to fit it? Not looking for a freebie, just someone who knows there way around a Zed.
  15. :thumbup1:A warm welcome indeed. Thanks. The car has been fine up until saturday. It started as normal, then after letting it idle for a while it just cut out. And i've not been able to start it since:confused1: It turns over as per normal but won't fire. A mate of mine popped by after work and he ascertained it is not the fuel as that's fine. We then checked the plugs as advised on here. There is no spark but not sure why. I've had a look on the forum and believe it might be ptu or cas related:confused1: The problem is i know absolutely nothing about engines!! I'm quite handy with a chisel and a saw but that's not proving very useful! I don't really want to touch anything as i'm afraid i'll only make the problem worse. Any pointers or advice would be much appreciated.
  16. Cheers guys. Half the reason i haven't made myself known is because i'm useless with computers. Wouldn't know how to get pictures up!! I'll have to come to a meet if i get it going just so someone can take a photo. Good a reason as any
  17. Hi guys, after lusting after a Zed for about 15 years I finally own one  I did all the right things, had a good look around this site, went through all the things to look for and to avoid. Took on board all the advice offered. set myself a budget, made sure insurance wasn't too bad etc etc, Then promptly went and had one too many cold ones, got home and pushed the dreaded 'buy it now' on ebay:oops: Woke up thinking "what have i done"? However, being a man of my word i went through with the sale. Not because of feedback scores but because nobody made me push the button after all. I got myself a series1 SWB slicktop and i love it. Not quite as described, but i still love it. So just saying Hi and making myself known really. Been trawling the site almost daily for a few weeks so thought it was about time. And the fact i've had 400 trouble free grinning miles, but now it won't start!!! Daffy.
