  1. Ok thanks I will have a look at the weekend. I just remembered I had the air con re-charged at end of last summer, do you need to disconnect the air con pipe when the system has new gas put in it?

  3. I had my heater core split a while ago, which was replaced and everything was good. However for the past few months there has been a strange sucking noise coming from under the dash when the heater is on. The only thing I can liken it to is when your drinking from a glass with a straw, and when there isn't much liquid left it makes a similar noise. It basically sounds like water (or another liquid) being sucked through something. It only happens when the heater is on, (which at the moment in this weather is all the time). I've also noticed that it only happens when I have been driving for a bit then come to a stop, or when I pull away from standing. I'm not sure if the heater should even be on all the time, should it be turned off after the car has warmed up? The only reason I have it on all the time is (if I turn it off) the windshield gets covered with a greasy residue and it's difficult to see where I'm going. I'm probably going to sell the car later this year, so I want to try and get everything sorted.:detective:
  4. I purchased ConZult a few weeks ago, and finally managed to get it working on my father's laptop. The car doesn't seem to boost properly, but I do know that the det sensor doesn't work properly. My father has clipped a resistor in the det sensor connector to bypass it. However the car still doesn't boost properly, does the fault code still stay in the ECU when the sensor is being bypassed? Can the ConZult software clear the error code so I can see if it is the det sensor that is causing the boost problem?
  5. No, I don't use the ECO mode, I just press the AUTO button then set the temperature. Me and my father are going to try the diagnostics on the air conditioning to see if there are any fault codes that relate to one of the sensors. If not, then I guess recharging the system would be the next step. However, I thought the R12 gas was illegal now. If the car has never had the system recharged before, will the entire system need replacing to accomodate the new gas?
  6. Thanks for your suggestion, I tried it but to no avail. When I came home today me and my father checked a couple of things. The sight glass shows that there is refrigerant running through the system, and the pump seems to be working fine as well. Could it be something like a sensor that has gone wrong?
  7. Since the weather has been very hot recently, I've been trying to use the climate control. However I'm not sure if it is working properly. I always press the 'Auto' button then adjust the temperature (I set it to about 16), but it feels as though it is just drawing the air from the outside and blowing it in the car. I don't really know how to use the climate control, I've only used it when it has been cold, so I may be doing something wrong. It had its MOT on Monday, and it passed with no advisaries, and when I used it when it was cold it seemed to work fine.
  8. I can't stand them. As with any small car, it's either for girls or fags.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions, although I've decided against the idea of importing one. I tried Autoadvan and Newera Imports, and I wasn't really impressed by either, which has put me off. Sorry for bumping the thread with the above bullshit that's not really important, but I didn't want to come across as ungrateful.
  10. There should be a thread dedicated to all the ****wits who are selling them on eBay. Sure, it would be literally every single one, but it would be entertaining none the less.
  11. As you probably know, I've been looking for a car for some time, and haven't really seen anything worth buying, so I've been thinking about importing one. Can anyone recommend any dealers that import 300ZX's? I'm also curious about how much they are to buy from Japan. My dad had his FTO imported about 5 years ago, and he seemed to pay a lot more than what it was realistically worth.
  12. I've tried Admiral and Elephant, rubbish for me. Looking at £2000+ regardless of whether its UK/import.
  13. I'm 20, I can get really good quotes on UK cars, but the insurance on an import is about double. I have tried classic insurance, but I think you have to do less than 5000 miles a year to qualify. In terms of an "ideal" car, it would be a UK manual with no modifications. I have no preference on colour, wheels, or anything like that. I would like the mileage to be on the lower side of 100,000 miles, but if it's a bit over I wouldn't mind.
  14. I have been looking for a UK 300ZX for about 3 months now, and I haven't been able to find anything that's right for me, so I'm thinking about looking at imports instead. Obviously my insurance will be more expensive, but if I can counter it with a cheap car, it should even out. After some research, my insurance will be around £2000-£2500, so I will be looking to spend £1000-£1500 on the car itself. My question is, what kind of car will I be able to get with that kind of budget? Since there's no rules on how to price a 300ZX, it's hard to tell which ones are good and which ones are bad. As I say, I've only been looking for 3 months, so I need a bit of help!
  15. I cannot get insurance on an import.
  16. I'm still looking for UK manual. I'm beginning to wonder if my budget is too small. I'm looking to spend £2500 - £3000 at the very most. There is a nice white one for sale at the moment, but it's £5000, and I just can't put aside that much money. How much should I be looking to spend on a UK TT manual?
  17. I haven't got a 300ZX at the moment, it was curiosity more than anything. I didn't realise it would be that expensive, unfortunately I wouldn't be able to afford it. Thanks for the advice though guys.
  18. How much would it cost roughly to have an auto 300ZX changed to a 5 speed manual?
  19. Not having much luck on the insurance front. I phoned about 15 companies on Saturday, most of which were import specialists, but I couldn't get a reasonable quote from any of them. Some were about £5000, and one company quoted £6200! So I'll be looking for a UK car, but there doesn't seem to be many about. Do most people on the forum have a UK model or an import? (Out of curiosity more than anything).
  20. Me and my dad actually went to Crest Cars today funnily enough. They guy seemed really nice, he had a red TT manual that looked in good condition, and I have to say that all the other cars he had looked in good condition too. But if you say I'm wasting my time, then I can't really argue with that. It was an import however, and I still have not got that sorted with my insurance company. I don't understand why I need the vehicle insured for 12 months claim free before they can insure it. It's the same as the UK model, so the risk is the same, but I think I'm making too much sense.
  21. Been speaking to Adrian Flux, the insurance on a UK twin turbo is only about £100 more expensive than the Primera, but they will not insure me at all on an import. I would have preferred an import, since the UK cars are in much worse condition than the Japanese imports. Modifications don't seem to be a problem either, exhaust modifications didn't make any difference to the premium, so I'm not sure they wouldn't insure me on an import. Can anyone recommend any other insurance companies that deal in imported vehicles?
  22. Speaking of miles per year, I would be doing about 12,000 per year. Pushes the insurance up a little bit, but it's still bascially the same as what I'm spending at the moment. How unreliable is the twin turbo model? Or more to the point, how unreliable is the 300zx in general? I have heard the 300zx described as an "unreliable money pit". But then again, that was coming from someone who drives a Vauxhall Omega. But seriously, if I buy one, how long will it be before a turbo gives up? I don't drive fast, so it's not as though I'd be thrashing it.
  23. I'm 19. I am actually with Adrian Flux at the moment for my other car, they were a lot cheaper than everyone else I have to say. The only problem I had was that they kept changing the policy price and the excess every time I asked them to send me it.
  24. Thank you for the offer. It's quite a long way from where I live, but it's not too bad I guess. I'm trying to get a week off work this month so I can have a look at some. However if I can't get the insurance sorted, I won't be going at all!
  25. Cheapest with them is £2600.
