  1. You've hit a good point there. I think there are two values for our cars...the market value and...the value to us as owners. Someone posted some information on here a while ago explaining that if a TT sold for around £35 - £40 new in 1993, the equivilent new price today would be something like £63K...to me they are worth every penny of that. Mind you if someone offered me £63K...I may consider selling!
  2. I believe that over the next few years we will see a steady increase in the value of our cars. The vast majority of the UK market still don't know what a ZX is and as they become rarer and people realise what incredible machines they are, the price will rise for good ones.
  3. Cats can do some pretty amazing things, if the RSPCA think it will come out at some point, don't do anything too rash. We had a cat once that got trapped under the floor, tried everything to get it out but it wouldn't budge. After about 7 hours we assumed that we would have to lift the floorboards up. Went out to buy a wrecking bar and when we got back the cat was waiting for us in the kitchen!
  4. There is a small piece of iron that sits just down stream from the turbo's. It is standard on all Zed's but sometimes people fit it to Supra's and GTO's etc to try an increase their credability. When the cat finally comes out, take the car to a specialist and ask them to remove the pussy magnet.
  5. I'm sure the RSPCA will help even if it's just for some advice?
  6. Wise words Sir, I subscribe to your thinking and I have learnt more about cars and patience in the last 14 months that I have ever done! Quick question for you...mine is doing the same, really small water use and no evidence of a leak. I took a look at the expansion bottle and all appeared to be OK, except when I undid the screw that holds the neck of the bottle to the side of the engine bay, I was able to lift the neck right out of the bottle. Is this right, or should it be joined/sealed onto the main bottle?
  7. Really nice job, looking great!
  8. Hi, if you give Jeff, Jamie or Linda a bell at ZedWorld, they will post them out to you. I know this sounds like a dull question...but I take it you have loosened off the alternator and power steering tensioners when you tried to get the new belts on?
  9. I can't wait...I am still running Jap spec tyres which do a great job of letting go of the rear in the wet with very little warning...blood is still pumping after my last involuntary roundabout drift! Have been spending funds on ensuring reliability, I am now getting very close to spending some fun money on gereral bling, wheels and tyres. Following your post (Daffy) I am now looking forward to some decent grip more than ever.
  10. Good reviews all round then, brilliant. Is the club happy for me to approach them to see if they will offer discounts to 300zx.co.uk members or is there an official club way of approaching companies for discounts?
  11. Has anyone used DP Motorsport for alloys and tyres? They seem pretty good value and their feedback is exceptional. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/DP-MOTORSPORT-CAR-MOD-S/_i.html?_nkw=300zx&submit=Search&_sid=99025700 What do you think? Is it worth seeing if we can get a member discount or are there other suppliers that are already associated with our club that offer an equivalent service?
  12. I haven't used this particular one before, but I have used Winns Stop Leak whilst waiting for my appointment at ZedWorld to have the rocker seals done. At present I get some corner drips from both rocker covers which lands on the manifold...nice smell! After using Winns Stop Leak if has slowed the amount that drips on to the manifold and appears to have had no detrimental effect on the engine or tubs.
  13. Now this has got me thinking...many of you seem to have low mileage due to mods/rebuilds, slight technical setbacks (such as exploding engines etc) or you only take your pride and joy out in the sun etc...maybe I should have asked..."how many miles have you actually done in your Zed and how many would you really like to be doing?"
  14. Interesting stuff...any high annual mileages out there?
  15. Thanks for sharing, it's always useful to know this stuff just in case it happens to anyone else. Good luck with your light fix.
  16. I am really interested to know how many of us use our cars extensively. As I run my own business, I use mine nearly every day and mostly longer trips. It's a great talking point and people rarely know what it is. In the last 13 months I have clocked up over 14,000 miles and that includes 6 weeks off the road waiting for the heater matrix to be replaced... What sort of mileage are you all doing?
  17. I'm unable to think of a particular example, however I do thoroughly enjoy sticking my foot down on the motorway when someone in their silver Audi/VW/BMW/Merc is trying to chew my rear bumper. I love it when they get smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror, then after I have slowed down again, it takes them about 20 minutes for them to catch up! What I have noticed though are "kids" in Fiesta's/Clio's/Corsa's that seem to make it their purpose on this planet to try and get me to race them. There is a certain satisfaction that when they race off as the lights change, I cruise along at about 20mph and pull up along side them at the next set of lights. I think I get my message across...as if I am going to stoop to your level sonny! Happy motoring all!
  18. I use BP Ultimate and have noticed a significant improvement in fuel economy compared to normal unleaded. With standard unleaded I get around 280miles per tank and with Ultimate I get around 350miles per tank (I have a 93 TT) Regarding performance, I haven't really noticed any difference between either type.
  19. I agree (Gary Wilson), it's my belief that our cars will become a real long term investment. What we need to do is start by fully representing their worth on this site and eventually prices for owners club vehicles will increase. This will then lead the market especially as they become more rare.
  20. Glad you found my input helpful. I thought increasing the price may get some raised eyebrows. In my view it's all about "best value" (not cheap) and with more and more people looking for something different other than the usual Mercs, BMW's and Audi's under pricing can be a dangerous as over-pricing. Your car looks special and should drive a greater premium than the usual Z's. I also agree with JeffTT, the more info on service the more peace of mind you will give people. Best of luck.
  21. I think it's a great looking example and obviously well cared for. The £3500 price tag offers very, very good value and the SWB models are more rare. The only thing that I can think of is that it's the time of year, Christmas around the corner etc. If it helps the peak times for buying and selling cars is March - April just as the sun starts to come out again. If you are happy to hang on to it until then, I am sure it would sell very quickly. The only other thing that springs to mind is the price...no I am not going to recommend you drop it but quite the opposite! When I was looking to buy my first Z around 14 months ago, I got very suspicious that so many were so cheap. I looked at the amount of car that you got for your money and for those that were priced under £4500 I found myself asking "what's wrong with it?" My recommendation is that you increase the price to at least £4500 and see what happens. Hope this helps, best of luck with the sale.
  22. I had a similar thing when I first bought mine a year or so ago. I changed the front anti-sway bar bushes and tension rod bushes for Poly ones and it made a big difference. I also changed the rear anti-sway bar bushes too, although I am running OEM ones until I get the bar changed to a UK spec one, it still helped overall stability. Hope this helps.
  23. Glad you are all OK, hope you get it sorted and check to see what caused the revs to rise unexpectedly. Be safe.
  24. I agree. In my view our cars are seriously under valued for what they are. If someone is buying one things like fuel economy will not be a problem. It did get me thinking about the value when I was at my local petrol station. The chap next to me said "That car is fantastic, I have always wanted a 300, instead I have to drive around in this company car" He had a brand new 5 series BMW. My point is that his perception of the value of my car was greater than the value of his 5 series. We could be onto something here!
  25. I think we should go with his £25K....I knew our cars would turn into a serious investment one day...must admit though...I wasn't expecting it quite so soon!
