  1. I'm just gonna chat to the wife, looks like my whole tribe might come down, and have a carvery there, sod doin the washing up after sunday dinner.... heck, I might even bring the mother in law..... :D
  2. yeah that was me pal, guilty as charged... twas a good weekend, weather could've been much worse.... track could've been more grippy, there should've been more stella and less carlsberg 3.8% and I could've not wheelspan 1/2 way down the track on every one of my 16 runs..... 14.8 for a Volvo estate with 201,000 miles up it aint to be sniffed at though... I was hoping for the low 14's, and I'm going back there next weekend with some half decent tyres to try and achieve just that. RWYB 15th August with mini in the park the following day..... £27 RWYB on Saturday is an extra £25 on top for as many runs as you want.... I'll be there.... damm right I'll be there..... :x:
  3. Before I upgraded everything, driving miss daisy, I'd be lucky to see 21.5mpg, since the work, I've seen 25mpg just driving normally, not careful, and not fast. The extra efficiency has worked in my favour that way. Of course, floor it, and you can get averages well into single figures, but at that point the speedo gets to triple figures pretty quickly, so it's a nice balance really... bad news from the dyno run. couldn't get her boosting right, gonna go back thursday, with the standard fuel regulator back in place, and the recirc valve back on, see if we can get her back to how she was a few weeks back. On the good side, the new clutch I had a month ago has recovered the torque I'd lost. The best run today was 289bhp with 300lbft of torque, but that was way off what it should have done, just a quick glance at the graphs we were getting told us that. A smoke test on thursday, and another fiddle with a couple of the standard bits back on, and hopefully, normal service can be resumed, if not, then it could be the turbo leaking air past the compressor blades, which is obviously very bad news. But fixable... they're always fixable....
  4. yeh anytime pal... I'm off to get the T5 dyno'd today, and I should be joining the 300bhp club. All the engine mods cost me about a grand, and I still havn't had her remapped yet...
  5. so if I upped the injectors and got a remap, then I'd be able to go over 10 psi? No bother, I'll do that then... I'm only after 450 - 500 bhp, and from what I can gather, the internals will take up to 600 bhp, (unless I read that, and am about to be corrected lol), and so at even 500 bhp the turbos will be just joggin along under not much stress, which has got help longevity eh? I'm new to these motors, but quite well versed on volvo turbos, so at least I'm educateable, if my presumtions are off the mark.... :)
  6. I'll pop through for a little while in the Volvo, I know for cetain the zed won't be mobile for then....
  7. I've only heard the stuff that's got into the charts from them, but I have liked all of them so far... rock on, I say... :D
  8. I would'nt fit 2nd hand turbos without getting them refurbed and balanced 1st. Would that work out a bit cheaper, or a lot cheaper? If it's only a bit cheaper, then it's new ones, but I've got 5 kids, so if it can be done cheaper, but be of the same overall qualty, then I go the cheaper way. I'd like to get a pair of new gt2530's, but that'd mean a divorce, and I've kinda got used to her cooking now....
  9. would it be right that a T28 off a Pulsar would fit straight on?
  10. I've got an apexi avc-r controller. A few years old, but working, so it's all good... :hyper:
  11. not all of the work, I'll get engine lifted out and put back by a trusted mechanic I've used for years, and do the turbo swap myself. I've heavilly modified the T5 I've got, and I did all that work myself, (new turbo, downpipe, exhaust manifold, throttle housing, modified the inlet manifold, and revered the flow through the intercoler) so I'm sure I'll have no problems doing the swap. As long as there's no hidden problems, niggles, or cock-ups, obviously.... :wack:
  12. It's now looking very likely the turbo seals have gone on the passenger side turbo, and as it's an engine out jobby, which I don't wanna do too often, I might as well upgrade the turbos, while I'm there. Which turbos are the best to fit, (considering power gains/cost)? Would I need to upgrade the standard intercooler, or fuel pump? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated... Cheers
  13. the youtube vids keep going down. This is a good one, with slow-mo replays.... he's a really lucky, unlucky bloke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuWYP_1IGqQ

  15. Gutted for ya pal, and gutted for me as well, I've got a redzed, and I'm also skinto for the next month at least, sorting the turbos out... bummer :(
  16. that would make sense, as the car lived down that way for a couple of years... Cheers maz, I'll give them a bell later on... :duffer:
  17. Ok, having a nose around whilst looking for the fusebox (still not found lol) I found the ecus, under the passenger footwell. Upon inspection, I see that mine has a sticker on it, with a big "AS", and "tuning by select" underneath. I've done a google search with no luck. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Cheers
  18. I was thinking about this one.... keeps the look of the z32, but makes it a bit more modern, I think it's pretty subtle....
  19. Good news, I managed to pick her up early, and she's now parked in her new home. It's raining buckets here in Coventry at the minute, so pics are all indoor shots at the moment, in crap lighting, but I'll have better shots in a couple of days. I'm gonna wait till after USC to MOT her, or I'll just have that expense every year right at the wrong time next year, so I'm using my head, not my heart, and putting back the expected "On Road" date to sometime around the 2nd week of August. Considering she hadn't been started in over 2 years, the drive back was smooth, if a little smoky in drive at 3500rpm @ 70mph. Once I hit the overdrive button, and the revs dropped backto 2100rpm, the smoke died away, but as I was coming back into the 30mph zone by my house, the smoke was back, and oticable especiallywhen I came off the throttle for roundabouts or corners. She has had the oil feed pipes for the turbo re-tightened a few times, so that's my first port of call for checking her. Question for all you petrol knowledgable people... Could the over two year old petrol make it smoke like that? Once we got her in the garage, I left her for a bit, then restarted her, let her idle for a min or two, then checked to see how bad the smoke was. All the way thru the rev range, she was fine, not a puff, all the way to the limiter, that also tells me that either it's gonna clear, or the turbo area is the right place to start.... And I have great plans for this car. She's gonna get a set of coilovers, and a bodykit this side of xmas, but that's after the dyno setup. I'm going to a Jap specialist near Nuneaton, called MGT Racing for all the diagnostics, and setup. They know their stuff with Skyline's, they have a Wheels will come at some point, as she's running on 16" rims at the minute. Granted, they're 3-peice split rims, but I will be changing them at some point around the time the kit gets fitted. More to come as it happens....
  20. I signed the V5 today, and I'm picking her up on Friday afternoon... She's got 58,000 miles on her, but less than 3,000 on the brand new engine, which the guy said was rolling roaded after fitting at 450bhp. I'm a bit dubious about that figure, but I'll have her dyno'd within the first month of getting her on the road, and find out for myself. There is an in car electronic boost controller, but I don't know what it's set at yet, (what's the standard boost for one of these?) and there's a set of wheels that look like they're 3-peice split rims, again, investigations on Friday will tell me for sure.... And don't worry, there'l be plenty of pictures coming on Friday evening.....
  21. There's a slim chance I'll have her on the road by next meet then... If so, I'll be there for sure.... :D
  22. I think you're right, but until I get her here, I'll not know sure....
  23. cool, so we are the cov newbies.... ?! excellent....!
