  1. well, the title says it all, all weird and wonderful ways accepted. Rich
  2. Just a quickie. whilst using my Fluke Multi meter, when i set it to resistance should it show "0" Rich
  3. Tried to establish whether the line feed to cyl 5 was the issue, with MM tried Stephen's way -ve on earth + on feed in connector, got about 3.9v on MM set on Vac, working on the assumption it fires with a pulsed signal. then i pulled a good cyl and checked that, annoyingly it was the same. Then i remember i bought an injector from someone on here, but before i got it i took one from my spare car. so when i got it i stored it. got the injector and pushed it on cyl 3 connector, i expected it to pulse, it didnt, so i put it on the good connector, still nothing happened. Now i dont know whether it should have done something or shouldn't have , maybe someone can tell me? On the other hand, maybe the line feeds are ok and not only is the injector in the car stuffed, but so is the one i bought? I think i'm going to spend my spare time machining the plenum and replacing the injector, just for the fun of it. keep watching...
  4. RW are you saying that the misfire in cylinder 3 could be caused by a bad injector connection on one of the other 5 connectors which would show no injector problem on that injector? ... i think..??? Rich
  5. Ok, i've put my arm back on and the state of play now is: put a new tail on, sprayed the injector side with that special spray, cleaned the contacts really well, put it all together and fired her up. Then kicked the gate, fence and then the cat,!!! Bugger, no difference. After going to my shed and having a good cry, i sort myself out and think what else can i try before grinding the plenum away...... i suppose the next best thing would be to check if any power, and the right power was coming down the line, i recall a chat with Stephen about it, i'll do some research and see what pops up. Any more info and advice gladly received Rich
  6. I was just wondering, could this be the cause of the misfire.....
  7. Yeah i bought a spare injector last year, gonna check the connection first before i start machining the plenum away. Where abouts in essex are you Joely? MR Dude - - - Updated - - - Stephen, these MM checks, are they taken with engine running of not? cheers rich
  8. Its the middle cylinder , drivers side... Man... Depending where you look its a variety of numbers Regards Dude
  9. opps.. forgot about the injector taking power, i'll try and check it out, does it get its pulse from the PTU as well?
  10. Hi Guys, Well its bad news, its the injector, checked both pack/plug assemblies of a good cyl against the bad one, the misfiring cylinder has sparks a plenty also when swapped to the good cylinder, so the sparks okay, which would mean the PTU is giving it, which means its okay (dam), which only leaves the injector, Did the screwdriver test and the good ones really did click but the bad cyl was just not there, probably heard the good injectors firing. So i've changed an injector before which included drilling away the plenum. Wouldn't wish this job on anyone...its a beatch. Ah well, just dig out the drill, good job i hadn't put the polished plenum on...... Rich
  11. Stephen, hi. i'm doing that tomorrow. i'll let you know. Thanks all Rich
  12. Hi Andrew, yeah, did all, thanks but made no difference, What i was trying to ask about the plug was ..if the injector was working would the plug look like this, or vice versa, if it wasn't working would the plug look like this, along those lines, Also if the injector was working but the wiring was crap, surely the cylinder would flood, big smell of petrol and the plug would maybe be "wet", I dunno, i'm no expert Have done some research online and there are some indicators and tips to check the packs/injectors etc. so i'll try that lot. Regards Rich
  13. Hi Andrew, yeah, did all, thanks but made no difference, What i was trying to ask about the plug was ..if the injector was working would the plug look like this, or vice versa, if it wasn't working would the plug look like this, along those lines, Also if the injector was working but the wiring was crap, surely the cylinder would flood, big smell of petrol and the plug would maybe be "wet", I dunno, i'm no expert is there a way to check continuity or resistance etc on the plug to the PTU, to check the wiring? if any one knows please advise Rich
  14. Right Then, Tried TWO bought PTU's S1 1 st one was worse than and the other was the same as mine ie gave middle cylinder drivers side misfire. Really only leave a couple of causes now, the Injector or the wiring/connector. So are there ways to test on the car or do i have to resort to the old fashioned way.... just keep replacing stuff till it fixes it.. Regards Rich
  15. Thanks Joely, already there. Regards
  16. Alic, yeah i sussed that, but wasn't to hot on cutting into my existing loom, besides, i think i'd struggle to get a soldering iron to the car.... Maybe a new one would be neater. Thanks anyway Rich - - - Updated - - - any offers on a loom?
  17. Hi, well i got my s2 ptu, thanks a lot Greg, but as you know it needs a loom to re-connect it to the main loom, so has any one got one as i need it like now, not in 4 weeks time from Oz Cheers
  18. Alic, cant see it, if you know him tell him ill have it.
  19. Thanks for that guys, i was about to call the wreckers to come and get the bleeding thing.... Question still stands, anyone got a S2 PTU OR a working S1 i'll take either. Thanks Rich
  20. you're Sh11ting me, what the whole loom, to the plugs?
  21. Just a bit of fishing, has any one got a Series 2 PTU for sale , need to know if its my S1 PTU causing the misfire i can fix it quickly, Cheers Rich
  22. Also, i read on the Australian 300zx site a repair to a series 1 PTU, has anyone here attempted this and if so what was the result?
  23. If you've been following some other thread of mine, you'll know i've got a misfire , its the middle plug on the drivers side. i've whipped the plug out and the piccy is below, is there anything i can gather from the state of the plug which might lead me to the reason for the misfire. Also the other piccy shows a pipe was disconnected i've no idea what this does so any tell me what would happen if it not connected. Thanks
  24. Hi Guys, i was wondering if its possible to test a ptu series 1 off the vehicle, i've got access to a psu if that helps. Thanks Rich
  25. Okay Then, i didn't muck about with the solder at the switch i just swapped the brass contacts on the front/back motor connector, I the plugged it and the power in flicked the switch to back, and hey presto, the seat moved forward!!. Great, so i moved it enough to see the rear seat bolts, and then funnily enough, flicking it fwd, and the seat went back. However the switch did seem faulty in fwd mode, so good thing Funkysi is sending me a switch assembly, should get it next week. So thanks Jeff for guiding me in the right direction, all i need to solve now is my misfire....fat chance. Thanks all Rich
