  1. after yet another enviromental news story on air travel being bad this morning i thought it was worth re-reading the data on jet engines as i'm a bit of a skeptic so went looking for the mpg of a jet i saw an engineer quote that the service intervals on some jet engines can be +500,000 miles too so maybe we can put that particular global warming argument to bed now :p
  2. check this thread http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=85534&highlight=petrol+smell welcome

i know i had a fairly high profile crunch the other week hence some of the thinking behind the thread but to be honest skill isnt lacking in all cases....i've been a daily driver since 1988...avg milage maybe a bit less now but was 1000 per week for over 10 years....seen and driven just about every condition there is at all hours of day and night in all types of car and i've never had a car breakaway the way my silver zed did...a heady mix of oversalted poor road surface, 19" rims 9" wide low profile tyres which were cold (1 mile from home) and a stiff suspension set up conspired to cause a breakaway on 1/3 throttle @ 40 mph whilst driving in a straight line....i know its a bit trite but maybe for cars with such set ups they should be fair weather rides only because it was no better then going out in slicks on that fateful day

  10. would have thought (most) restricted policies meant no named drivers of any age but not 100% on that....obviously anyone can drive your zed under their own insurance third party cover permission of owner etc etc...i leant mine to the bro in law for a weekend once he knew he would be only be covered 3rd party
  11. its all done with smoke and mirrors mate..... :D anyways most...if not all low quotes on here are classic or sometimes called 2nd car policies you'll need a driveway / garage, be over 30 years old and do no more than 6k per year milage
  12. try houghtons insurance bureau next time they will cover jap-spec zeds on classic policies
  13. the rule of thumb is factor in 21% when importing then you wont get upset if you get hit by HMRC but you might get away with it....but i take your point the carriage costs could be a deal killer
  14. re: the weights never thought of that Ivan...good idea hey seeing as your gears crunch save up and get one of these...a snip at @ £900.00 http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?products_id=1684
  15. or driver...? look no further....eliminate those odours with the http://www.carpaint.co.uk/system_h.htm
  16. you can usually get classic cover if you have a garage a driveway its your 2nd car and you do limited milage and are over 30 years old...:D
  17. its rubbish the seat law esp if they are lap belts aka rear seats series 1 zeds...how does raising the height make it safer when using a lap belt ?????? in some cars using a booster seat means the childs head is above the rear of the seat making it more dangerous if whiplashed
  18. mostly been painting the calipers...it freshned up the wheels nicely i think :nana2:
  19. lol...i think you might have mentioned it too mark....sorry was a bit distracted when we spoke too much info and no pen and paper...got the studs at lunchtime today and all done and dusted
  20. yay....got the stud out finally :D thanks for the tip from Mike @ MJP...its probably been posted on here before but you need to screw / wind 2 long(ish) bolts into the spare screw holes on the face of the brake disc to push or ease it off the hub...pointless trying to knock it off the hub with a rubber mallet just takes for ever re the torquing up....i've been told its quite low on these cars as you can warp the rear disc's easily by over torquing wheel nuts a fairly common prob according to the traders I spoke with yesterday
  21. ok thats cool does anyone know the stud part number? or are they universal types...?
  22. does anyone know if you can drift out a single broken stud and put in a new one or do you have to replace the whole plate with all 5 studs etc cheers
  23. no prob just a thought if its judder could be a coil / cylinder not firing...take off one coil connector at a time and see if the engine pitch changes when you push them back on etc cheers
  24. seeing as he sells them i'd think the best bet is to get in touch with Steve (cybernet) here's his page http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=112
  25. yeah that was my prob....took it out and jiggled it around and all is ok now...haha
