Not missed it
The pump sounds fine, no fluid loss, belt O.K. Just at a loss as to what to try without wasting more money. Will have another go at it next week maybe try running wires from the back of the clocks straight to the ECU inputs /outputs just in case there is a break in the wiring loom. I know it may seem trivial compared to what a few people have been through with there cars and I can tackle most jobs but this is beginning to get to me.

Cheers lads , feeling a bit sorry for myself, I have changed the steering ECU, and steering rack solenoid valve and still cant get the power steering to work. The speedo works fine, I have removed the converter so really at a loss to try next. Sent a PM to Jeff asking about the whether the power steering pump is a weak spot but got no reply. As its a N/A trying to get a replacement pump is nearly impossible plus I cant afford to just keep throwing money at it in hope.

My zed has got the power steering problem I have bought replacement parts and still no joy. Thing is I also run a discovery V8 and have been using that for last 3 weeks, now I know I wouldn't have used the zed in this weather but I haven't missed it. I have had the car over 10 years now and no probs but this power steering fault is getting me down, it may be the end of a beautiful relationship. I am off work next week and will give it one more look at then thats it, it can stop in the garage with a sheet over it until we sell the house and is found by the new buyers. Bit like when an old farm is bought and an old classic is found in the barn. LOL.

power steering problem
Have now disconnected the steering solinoid valve and put a 12volt input to it, as discribed in the workshop manual, according to the manual the vale should buzz/vibrate when the power is taken off. There was no noise or vibration so could this be the cause of the power steering fault ? JeffTT you may be getting a call on Monday for some help and parts.

power steering problem
looks like I may be best disconnecting the converter and switching the speedo back to read KPH and seeing if it makes any difference.

power steering problem
Yes the speedo reads O.K. all the time even when the power steering is going from light to heavy, it does it at all different speeds

power steering problem
I have got the old power steering problem of it works then it doesn't. Have checked all the usual things speed sensor, steering rack solinoid, was wondering if anyone has had this problem, but with the speedo working O.k. the speedo converter was u/s, causing the power steering fault or will the speedo always stop working when the power steering fails?

Who knows about LPG?
Baz I also run a discovery with LPG, Your best bet is to fill the tanks fully and zero your milage. You will know when you are running out of gas as the jeep will seem to be sluggish and lack power. Fill your tanks again and zero your milage, do this a couple of times to give an idication of distance travelled on a full tank/tanks. This will be more accurate than the LED lights on the changeover switch. To give you an idea I have 2 x 36 Ltr tanks and usually fill up every 180 miles, a lot less if town driving. Just be careful when running your tanks low as you can somtimes get a blowback through your air filter if you suddenly pile on the power with low tank levels. Any other Question just ask. Don't know if you get to the service station at Barnetby top on the M180 but they do an accumalator card which gives a penny a Ltr off LPG every fill up to 10p a litre. Eg 1st fill = 1p 2nd fill = 2p 3rd fill = 3p and so on up to 10p off.

Think there is an alternative aerial in the rear screen, the cable should be behind the radio slot.

How long have you owned your current Z?
Just had a look at the sale invoice and I bought mine 4-11-97. So 12 yrs and 3 months, it was a fresh import and cost £9000. Worth every penny.

Any sparkies on here? urgent help
I had the same kind of problem, finished up getting an electrician to come and sort. He said the 2 switches where fed from 2 circuits, upstairs and downstairs. Hope this helps, but I would just get an electrician to come and sort.
