1. http://weatherspark.com/#!forecast;ws=28768 Not exactly where I am but not that far away ...
2. You need a good airflow. Mine has also started to rust now that it's not used everyday and is kept in the garage.
3. Yes, you can use any ECU (NA, TT, auto, man) in an NA TT car, as long as it's chipped Also, for the record, you can use an NA ECU in a TT car, as long as you have a boost controller.
4. No, it's the same, for PLCC type devices. If you're going to buy one then get one of the simple looking ones that I showed earlier - they do work.
5. It's for a different type of chip - the square ones used as BIOS chips etc -they have very small hooks that fit into the corners of the socket.
6. Not sure, looks too small to me. Would have thought this is a better option: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IC-Integrated-Circuit-Extraction-Tool-/290615187880?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item43aa03d9a8 I just use a screwdriver to lever the chip out gently.
7. I've done dozens and dozens of these, all the hard way with a separate solder sucker - I wish I'd known that these were available - gonna have to get one now ...
8. You remove the old chip, replace it with a socket and then you can swap chips over easily in the future.
9. No, just a soldering iron, a solder sucker and some patience.
10. Yep, totally agree. Most of the stuff I see is more industrial espionage, this does fill the gaps in the background though.
11. OK, see what you mean. Agreed. Unlikely such expensive resources would be target an uninteresting place such as a small car forum though, they tend to go and beat on places with higher concentrations on interesting people/stuff. Anyway, research indicates it's Baidu, the China search engine.
12. And while we're talking password security, and we should be, then I'll share my best advice :-
13. I doubt it's a botnet, unless proxied in some weird way then all the addresses would be from different subnet, more likely some sort of search engine indexing/spider. Anyway, for the moment I've blocked the 180.75.5.0 subnet, so we should see the numbers drop off ...
14. Except where this theory falls down is that the oil floats on top of the water, so you get a little puddle at the bottom where it rusts, just like in oil/diesel tanks ! If there is a convenient hole, you're much better off squirting Waxoyl type stuff in there.
15. You can use the email notifier for that of course.
16. I think this is a great idea, it's something I looked into a couple of years back but there was nothing much available at the time.
17. Next :- 2011-11 Monthly.pdf 2011-12 Monthly.pdf
18. http://jalopnik.com/5841647/dutch-driver-drowns-nissan-gt+r Hope this isn't Peter - looks like there is a lot of pond life in that car now ...
19. I'd have to check the accounts in detail, but taking into account this has run for something like 10 years, we have accrued about £25K. However, for a some of that we paid nothing for hosting and we spent much, much less on JAE (which in reality has become an expensive event now), I'd guess that at the moment we make a profit of about £1k a year, but our expenses are up and down, if we buy a batch of keyrings that's something like £500, a few blocks of stickers comes to a couple of hundred, so you do have to take a long term view of this. Currently we are an adequately supported and funded club, but it is a delicate balance. The subscription fees were a completely arbitrary amount a few years ago, in fact I think the target was to purchase a server on which to run the forum, now we use a hosting company. There is no question of raising the fees, what I would prefer to see is the individuals to attend the events pay a little more to fund that individual event, rather than expect all the people who are unable to attend to subsidise it for them.
20. Off the top of my head I don't know, but I would have thought it's a bit more than that. As I said, I don't have a problem with Paypal, they provide a service which is a benefit to us and it has a cost. I don't know about you but I can't be here 24 hours a day to make peoples subscriptions live. Paypal can do that and it costs us 88p on each £20 subscription and 71p on each re-sub £17. In an ideal world it would be nice if it were half that, but they are the market leader, in fact you could probably argue that they created the market, so good luck to them. No different than a credit card really.
21. My experience of the gift option is that the purchaser rather than the vendor pays - Paypal still get their cut.
22. Yep, it's close to that. However, on the upside it all happens automatically. For me chasing obscure bank payments is a royal pain in the ass, using Paypal means that 24 hours a day subscription updates are almost instantaneous - from the individuals perspective, it's probably worth that. From the clubs perspective it's money that we don't count as ours to start with. And the bank account details and postal details for cheques are published ...
23. There are many different sizes of plate though. Perhaps we could provide a "standard" template allowing everyone to print out their own for each show ? We do need to be realistic about the costs of all these things. Bear in mind that the re-subscription fee is £15, of which we get just over £14 after Paypal fees. If approx £3 of that goes to running the forum, then that only leaves £11 for everything else ! Yes, we do get some subsidy from the trade subscriptions, but this doesn't add up to much overall.
24. Not long, it just takes me to remember to login to the bank and check occasionally - most people use Paypal which means I seldom have to do anything.
