  1. Ok thanks for the replies, I'll let him know T
  2. Ah, thanks. We was digging around under the bonnet last night and saw some sort of 'tube' that dissapeared into the wing. No idea what it was but I had an idea there was more behind the wing than I knew about!
  3. Mornin peeps.. Since I had the center console out yesterday fixing the headlight problem I decided to run the cables for a sound system. However we still can't find a suitable place to run the power cable through the bulk head! Where have you lot run your cables? (Pics would be nice if you have any) I'm gonna take the battery out this morning and see if there's anywhere behind there that I can get to.. Thanks! Tony
  4. Here's a pic of my cars for the people who wanna know :)
  5. SMW, you should come a little more south to woodham/maldon area! Since I've had mine (4 weeks) I've seen 4 on a regular basis within a 5 mile radius! Alot of people keep confusing them with 200sx's though!!! People keep seeing 'me' around - its not me, its the guy with the 200 thats the same colour as mine!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhh
  6. Hey Gibby it's Tony I joined up eventually after losing my headlights :) Fixed now tho - lemme know when the beast is back on the road. I should be out one weekend soon. Was gonna come out last week but my passenger fell asleep. lol Tony
  7. haha, I think the old owner was a member too, it has a 300zx.co.uk sticker on the window. Its a purple/blue colour with a big spoiler and the numberplate 'GAZ ***' twin turbo manual UK spec, dunno if any of you have seen it before, it was actually my next door neibours brother and the same car I was going to buy before getting mine (but he didn't get back to me with a price quick enough)
  8. I'm not the one with a problem this time :) I met some1 at the petrol station the other day, he's just bought a 300zx too, and half hour after buying it he lost reverse.. he asked me to put a quick post on here if I didn't mind.. Is this a common problem in these? Is there a solenoid that allows you to select reverse (to stop you jamming it in reverse while going at speed, maybe?) he can't physically select reverse. Or is this a linkage / gearbox problem? Thanks for any ideas Tony
  9. Everyone seems friendly enough :):) I met another 300zx owner locally the other day, he's just bought his and has a problem so I'll make another post on his behalf :)
  10. Problem : Solved. Turns out, the earth that i thought snapped when i pulled the head unit out was the problem. it did snap, and it was missing from the choc-block, but obviously somebody had done this before... and it snapped from another location... the earth from the wiring harness goes into the dash illumination on the car loom... (bang) so i've swapped out the earth for the illumination wire which wasn't connected to anything, and earthed the stereo on an earth behind the center console. Problem solved. Hope that helps anyone else with the same problem
  11. right.. here's the update. I just wrote a load of waffle about how it still wasn't working, and while typing realised I had actually fixed the problem, so i shot back out there, put a fuse in it and... it works!! Here's what I did: took center console out, disconnected stereo plug at loom end, so no stereo wires could interfere with my testing. I then hooked up a short circuit tester (I shoulda done this first) one end of the fuse was giving positive power, the other end nothing, until the light switch was on, then negative. I thought this was wrong , so I came on here to moan about not fixing it, then realised thats perfectly fine, and .. it works. I wish i'd have hooked up the short circuit tester before taking anything out and I woulda found out what it was. I still have to put everything back together though so the drama isn't quite over yet. Thanks for the help Tony
  12. Hi - I know what the illumination wire does, I never bother connecting it up, I did reconnect the earth wire that broke, otherwise the radio wouldn't work. However I can't use a multimeter to test which wire it is because my dash lights have died with this problem rememer :) I've already discovered the fuse is blown, but it just blows strait away with a new one in. As I said, I have a feeling its head-unit related, but the illumination wire has come out at the head unit end, so even if it was earthed out it would cause a problem with the head unit, not the lights (because the connection has not been made from lights to head unit), but I do think it has something to do with this area of the car :) I work in maylandsea, thats actually where the car is parked at the mo :) I work prettymuch 7 days a week so if you keep your eyes peeled you'll see it parked up (or going sideways somewhere) Thanks for the replies, I'll post an update once I get back down there and take the center console out again.
  13. Morning people. As suspected, I found the hidden fuse box, and fuse was blown! Changed the fuse and 'pop' blew strait away. So there's definately a short somewhere. I'll get on it tonight and let you know how i get on. Any ideas on what else (other than head unit) to look at might help? Thanks Tony
  14. Well, I have a feeling it could be stereo - related.. The other post talks about the problem affecting his stereo, well, my lights were working sunday night, I took my center console out yesterday to plug in some phono leads to the pre-outs, amongst that, I pulled a couple of wires out that had corroded in choc-blocks, one was an earth, and one was orange which I guess is the illumination for the head unit, this connector had come out of the original block so i didn't connect this back up because there was 2 avaliable connections and I didn't know which one. There's no way this is the direct reason but could be related..... I'll see about these fuses tomorro and let you kno how i get on
  15. Hi guys - thanks for the MASSIVE amount of replies in such a short amount of time, I posted when I was at work and just brought my other car home cos I didn't wanna drive with no rear lights. :( I looked for an internal fuse box , I even started unscrewing the bit under the steering wheel - lol. Found the one under the bonnet and thought that was it - but nothing was blown under there :) I'll get up there in the morning and let you know how I got on :) I did search for 'NO HEADLIGHTS' before posting but didn't find anything, so I apologise for the double post I know how annoying that is for ya. I have a LWB manual non turbo exactly the same colour as Darrell's. It has a '300zx.co.uk' tax disc holder in it so I'm guessing a past owner has been a member here, would be interesting to find some info about it. I'll get some pics up tomorrow SMW1: I'm in South east essex, near south woodham ferrers / maldon Thanks again for the help Tony
  16. Hi there - I'm new to the board, but have been meaning to sign up since i bought my 300zx :) I bought it about a month ago, everythings been fine until today , I was on my way home , went to turn my lights on, and all I have is full beam. No sidelights, No main beam, just full beam, even when full beam is switched off, its still on, but nothing else (when main beam is on, full beam is on) I also have no rear lights, even when full beam is on. indicators, horn, interior light, ect all work, however dash lights do not work either. Thanks in advance for any help Tony
