YIPPEE! after lots of grief have finally fixed the speedo,took a final clout to the head to settle the connections but so far so good,for anyone having a go at fixing theirs don`t be afraid.I ended up soldering a new loom in as bullet connectors gave a poor connection,running it up the gearbox over the prop & then drilling a hole in the mounting plate under the gear stick having first tie wrapped loom to the brake lines,upto the cluster and then soldered into replacement wire connectors.Big thanks to all that offered help,advice and their time.So good to be back on the road,can finally make a meet! :dance:

Cool,read that part of the wiring diagram correctly then,now i`m assuming that the other wire from the sensor is an earth or negative to complete the circuit, on my 91 uk looks like yellow black but hard to see on the online manual,will check with meter, looking at the rear of the cluster this appears to leave the head via the black wire to body earth so i`m thinking maybe just go direct to a good grounding point.I`m teaching myself all about the components in the pcb at mo, not that mysterious at all..i will cure it ..i will damn it!!

Evening people,after making a new loom up from my speed sensor i need to wire it in somewhere,obviously i can adapt the old connections which i believe to be yellowblue(sensor input) and black(earth) or can i go direct to the screws on the pcb,or... as an option, is it possible to earth the sensor directly to the interior of the car with no ill effects? cheers in advance y`all.p.s thanks for all previous replies certainly helped, now know it not to be the sensor,got to be a dodgy head.

Just a note for anyone that has a problem with their speed sensor (off the transmission, 5speed I can't speak to the AUTO) A failing speed sensor on the transmission if not replaced promptly, will cause an additional failure in your Speedo Head according to Nissan. Certain failures of the sensor cause a voltage overload to be fired through the circuit and causes damage to the Speedo Head transducer (Behind the speedo). Once this happens, there is a grounding that occurrs intermittently causing the speedo needle to drop to 0, your cruz control stops working and the variable speed steering is also affected. It is a whole lot cheaper believe me to fix that sensor right away than have to also buy this $450(CAD) transducer from Nissan once it also becomes damaged. Just an FYI! ..Dan Calgary AB

ha ha my god that`s bad! i can just imagine the person wheelin round homebase..spotting the air vents and thinking..yesss! i am suprised they didn`t go for the gold effect..maybe was thought it might clash!!

thanks for the replies,have a signal at the head when the sensors out of the car and running off a drill but put it in the box and ziltch, which seems to point to something mechanical. looking in the manual we noticed the drive gear for the sensor is held in place via a steel ball/plunger? and thought maybe this is shot leading to the gear spinning on the shaft hence not turning the sensor gonna check it myself at the weekend just to make sure as this was intermittant before
