  1. If you've got fuel but no spark on all cylinders then definately sounds like a PTU issue to me. Are you 100% sure the swapped PTU is good? CheerZ Vern
  2. I know what you mean. I do love the car and I definately wouldn't be zedless for long. The main reason I was even considering selling it is because it's just sitting there at the moment having no work done to it and it deserves attention. It's the exact zed I've always wanted being the swb manual twin turbo and I've always wanted a black one which is what it is, but with zeds going for so little money at the moment I've realised I could sell mine to someone that would sort out the MAF and then in summer I could buy one with all the things I wanted to do already done i.e. new interior, uprated turbos and all necessary upgrades, suspension, brakes etc. I suppose the only problem with that is that there might not be another swb manual one with the sort of upgrades I want for quite a while. I think I'd better look into sorting out a garage :p lol CheerZ, Vern
  3. Just missed yours for sale on ebay meht :( CheerZ Vern
  4. I'm considering selling my zed with the idea of purchasing one that somebody has already done up later on. I bought the car with the intention of basically uprating everything I could to get decent suspension, decent brakes, a decent amount of power but with good reliability and some mods to make it look a bit better like 99 spec lights, leather interior, new i.c.e. system, HIDs etc. Having thought about it now, I've not really got the time to do all this work myself and I'd never take anything to a garage unless I had to, so it would probably be better off with someone else because it's just been sat on the driveway for the past few months waiting for some attention. I was previously running a ninja to get around on, but that has become unreliable and the conditions aren't the best at the moment for riding a motorbike so I'm after a cheap runaround (mk1 1.4rt clio - so if anyones got one for sale let me know :p) and I'm think I'm either going to have to sell the zed to someone who'll give it the atttention it deserves, or hire a council garage for it for a few more months till the summer when I'll hopefully have a bit more time. Was just wondering what you would all recommend? CheerZ, Vern
  5. For a while now my zed has had a problem where it won't rev over ~2400rpm, idles very badly, and seems to use even more fuel than usual. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to either connect my MAF up to their car to test it or send a spare working MAF to me to allow me to find out if this makes the problem better (I'll pay for postage or come to collect depending on how far). I'm 99% sure that it is a knackered MAF (it runs the same with the MAF disconnected as it does with it connected) but my car is known for having a dodgy wiring loom so I want to find out if it's a broken MAF or a break in the wiring loom. CheerZ, Vern
  6. Think it must be to do with certain hardware because I've had Vista with SP1 installed on my laptop for months now and it's fine  lol James
  7. Seen a black z the past few Tuesdays parked on the Trinity building car park at Newcastle-Under-Lyme college. Clean-looking lwb manual na import with racing hart wheels (I think). The owner (a young lady:eek:) caught me admiring it the last time I saw it but I was too surprised to find it was a girl driving it to speak to her before she drove away lol :headvswal Anyone know if they're a member on here/who it might have been? CheerZ, Vern
  8. Apparently a well known problem with the retaining clip bolts on the bike is that vibration allows them to work lose!!!! Plenty of Loctite going on them when I get a new retaining clip and bolts (clip and bolts must be in the road somewhere). My injuries are fine - there is nothing that can be done about my broken toe apparently and my cuts and scrapes are already healing so all is well. Hardly in any pain at all - the cuts just don't look very nice lol. The worst thing is not having any transport because the zed is off the road as well! :( Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I just want to get back on the road now :) CheerZ, Vern
  9. On Wednesday the front sprocket came off my Ninja while I was doing 40 mph :( It came off and moved backwards jamming the chain between the swingarm and the frame and locking the rear wheel making me skid all over the road. I managed to control the slide for 15 metres or so but eventually dropped the bike on the right hand side smashing the front indicator lens, front footpeg bracket, cracking and scratching the fairing and scratching the right hand mirror, front brake fluid reservoir, front brake lever, rear brake lever, front indicator housing and some of the rear plastics. After lifting the bike off my leg and dragging it to the side of the road (with the rear wheel locked from the jammed chain), lifting it onto the kerb and dragging out of the way I then had to leave the bike and walk 1 mile home as I had no other way of getting home at the time. When I got in I realised some damage had occured to myself. I have cuts and road rash up my right hand side waist down (wearing leather jacket but only jeans and trainers on my bottom half - short journey so didn't bother with full protection :() some pretty serious road rash around my ankle (bone exposed!!) and a broken and bruised big toe with a black nail as well. Feeling a bit sorry for myself at the moment lol - although I know everything could have been much worse. I had just dropped my younger brother off at college and can't imagine what might have happened if he had still been on the back of it at the time - I'm just thankful that the drivers behind me weren't following too closely and were paying attention so I did get run over and seriously injured (despite none of them getting out to help me get the bike off my leg and get it out of the road  - although one bloke did afterwards get out to check I was OK so many thanks to him :)) Regards, Vern P.S. AND the zed has a flat battery :( lol
  10. Try right-clicking the setup file and clicking Run As Administrator if you can get hold of another copy. Should work :) CheerZ, Vern
  11. Did you manage to get this sorted? If not I would try exploring the office 2007 disc, find the executable installation file, right click it and click run as administrator. That usually sorts out any issues like this :) Vern
  12. Looks like the registry is has somehow become corrupt (possibly a virus as TonyB says) which means you won't be able to boot Windows at all. The only thing you can do is - as has been said before - back up the files you wan't to keep (onto a friends computer maybe?) - then get yourself a Windows installation disk and do a clean install onto your hard drive. However, I'm guessing that your HDD is of pretty low capacity (if it's old enough to have 2000 on it) so it might be worth upgrading anyway? Good luck with it :) Vern
  13. What voltage is it charging at? If the alternator/regulator is knackered it could be frying voltage-sensitive chips in the ECU? Just a thought :) Does it have a habit of blowing bulbs or anything? CheerZ, Vern
  14. Cheerz again for the reply RobH. I've already downloaded diagrams of the intake system so I've got a bit of an understanding about the routing of the major pipes :) I'm able to get at the intercoolers and pipes a little easier that most because my car came without wheelarch linings lol. Lol good idea. Will be interesting explaning to the girlfriend where all the condoms have gone missing to  CheerZ, Vern
  15. Cheerz RobH. I tried breaking it down into left and right but still didn't really get anywhere (although I was running out of time at this point so is probably worth doing again without rushing) and cut up and old Vespa tyre inner tube to clamp round the end of the pipe that goes to the throttle body. Again - have had a quick look at the IC hoses in the IC's themselves but the car's not really high enough off the ground to get underneath for a proper look (just driven onto 2 stacked paving slabs at the mo). Will have to jack it up and get it on axle stands to investigate properly methinks :) CheerZ, Vern
  16. Lol cheerz for all the help Smithy. Cars not MOTd, taxed etc at the moment or I would have already been lol :) And nope - not got any dump valves - can't stand the things to be honest :D CheerZ, Vern
  17. Don't I know it mate. To make things clearer then - there was no smoke out of the zorsts that I can remember but it would stall at stop signs if you didn't keep the revs up yourself. No other symptoms i.e. warning lights, sub fan on etc. Like I say - it wasn't in limp mode before I tried to do a boost leak test (it would rev the whole range) so I'm wondering if I've dislodged a hose or sumthing. EDIT: I've just had a thought that perhaps I have dislodged the MAF wiring - my engine wiring loom is known not to be exactly reliable so possibly a wiring related issue? Think I'll get the multimeter out and check the MAF readings :) CheerZ, Vern
  18. So it should sit as far left as possible when not moving? -7mmHg*100 or whatever it is? Is the fact that it moves to 0 when I rev it indicative of dodgey boost guage or big boost leak? Is there anyone in the Stoke area with a known to work boost leak tester setup? Ideally with compressor cause I don't think I've got any chance of hearing a hiss otherwise :) I've tried a cheap 12V compressor I've found in the garage but that can't get any pressure into the system either - then again I think it's designed to pump up push bike tyres :D CheerZ, Vern
  19. This is exactly what it's doing mate. I thought it pointed to a boost leak as well and it seems the boost leak is so big that I can't get any pressure into the system at all - but since I've tried to do a boost leak test it's the 2400rpm limp mode limit has come on. Wondering if I've dislodged the already leaking hose whilst messing with stuff trying to find the leak and made it even worse??? Something I've noticed - when the revs drop and the engine 'revs itself' the boost guage up to 0 then back to the left as the revs rise. Does this indicate anything? Confirmation of big boost leak? CheerZ, Vern
  20. I've already tried cleanin the MAF connections. But like I said I didn't have any carb cleaner at the time and didn't want to attempt to clean it with anything else :) I tried disconnecting the MAF while it was running and there was no change but I didn't know if this may be because I have such a big leak somewhere that it's pulling the air from the leak in the intake and not through the air filters and past the MAF - just a thought. Looks like the next step is an ECU diagnostic when I next get a spare half hour :) As I understand it after reading the service manual - if the ECU detects erratic readings from the MAF (or any sensors) it goes into a kind of 'limp-home' mode and physically limits the revs to 2400 and limits boost as well :) CheerZ, Vern
  21. Lol - I'll try gas mark 200 I think ;) Cheers SMW1. I've checked the MAF for water and it's bone dry but I haven't got any carb cleaner or anything similar so I haven't actually cleaned it. I will try disconnecting the battery and keep you all updated :) CheerZ, Vern
  22. I've got problems at the moment with the zed with it's idle keeps going just keeps varying from about 400 to 1200rpm in cycles (if you know what I mean), seems to be running rich (coked plugs and used £30 of fuel on the drive) and won't rev about 2400rpm. As I understand it - the 2400rpm limit is from the ECU being in some sort of safe mode? I am suspecting the MAF/AFM to be the cause of the safe mode but wondered if I could have such a big boost leak that it's causing a dodgy reading from the MAF and fooling the ECU into thinking the MAF is knackered? I've not ran any diagnostics on the car yet but I'm looking into buying conZult. Is there anyone near Stoke-on-Trent with conZult I could borrow the use of? Do you think I've got a knackered MAF and a boost leak or just the boost leak throwing the MAF reading out? Cheers, Vern
  23. Should definately reduce the chance of det :) CheerZ, Vern
  24. Lol cheerZ Dan. Seems that if I'm going to be getting some diagnostic software and an interface - it's best to get conZult from you. Will have to have a think about it at that price - I only paid £30 for the software and interface for my Dad's V6 Galaxy :O Looking at the ConZult and Datascan owners list it looks as if the closest person to me with any diagnostics is Clarkey in Wolverhampton although there's always Zedworld in Tamworth - so would definately be useful if someone else in the Midlands bought it I think. I'll have a think and a look at my money situation (I wanted an exhaust and a leather re-trim as well) and get back to you if I'm interested Dan. CheerZ, Vern
  25. Yeah I thought I read that DTA sell them but I've just looked on their website to try and compare prices with blazt and can't see a section for conZult. I may just be being a dumbass and it's right in front of me though :D CheerZ, Vern EDIT: Just realised why I couldn't find it - was on the .co.uk DTA motorsport not .com. Told you I was being a dumbass :D Although - even though I have found the section it just links me back to the UK site where I can find anything about conZult. I'm sure Dan will be along at some point to point me in the right direction :)
