you bring up a good point, this really pisses me off, especially when there are NO cars even in sight but they insist on pressing the damn thing, they have a look to make sure road is clear then they cross, only then does the light turn red and we have to wait like muppets. aaaaahhhhh frustrating. And dont get me started on zebra crossings, humans seem to think they are magic carpets and just cross without a care. there is a crossing at the end of my road where people have died crossing because its on a corner and you cant see the crossing until last minute this also causes car accidents.
