which oil coolant for an auto rad?
Guess you mean the red trans cooler fluid for the autobox? if so its a case of topping up at the autobox dipstick with Dexron 3, same is used for the power steering, if it was only the rad removed you should of not lost too much. Jeff TT

battery + alternater probs
Check the engine charge fuse in the black relay/fuse box under the bonnet on the passenger side inner wing, it is a red 10amp one marked on the lid as "ENGINE CONT" even it looks ok change it as a high resistance fuse will cause the alternator to not charge, this fuse can also cause problems with other electrical systems such as dash warning lights. Car running when turned off
Anythink is possible but as the fuel fuse failed it suggests something is amiss, the ouput to the fuel pump controller could of been "spiked" when the fuse blew, and in turn this caused the running on issue. In all the cases we have dealt where the engine runs on when the ecu is at fault the lights on the dash like the hanbrake etc. usually go a little dimmer when the key is switched off so check that out first, unfortunately if the ecu is the problem then replacement is the only fix. Find your closest "pets at home" store or similar they have the same engraving machines with lots of tag options, some for pet collars but also key ring ones, in fact sure last time I looked they had the same colour one you already have. Jeff TT

Check you water level in the radiator, a low level will cause poor or no circulation through the matrix. Jeff TT

2012
Sure these therories or predictions can paint a convincing and gloomy future for all, but this is not anything new, "the end is nigh" campaigns have been going for hundreds of years, and anyone with a slightly plusable sounding story can achieve some form of notoriety from it. But with the internet, TV and Hollywood all adding their spin its becoming quite dangerous, in the past some oddball communinities have even committed mass suicide because of false prediction. Best way to deal with these things is watch the film or documentory and enjoy it as a peice of fiction and move on, I really can see how compellling these things can be and of course its our own mortality we are really worried about but the old saying about it been more likely for you to get run over by a bus is as true today as it ever was. Working out compression ratio?
High compression and forced induction is not the way to go, increased chance of knocking, are you putting thinner gaskets on then? or have the heads been skimmed? Jeff TT

Oldie Rant !!
Totally agree, and as I am one of the 70`s Raleigh Chopper brigade I can see many things are much better today but and this can cover a whole lot of things what can the average older teenager aspire to now? For instance when I was racing up to my 17th birthday all I could think of was passing my test, £125 later a worn out Vauxhall Viva was mine, I spent 4 months doing it up whilst learing to drive and when I passed I was king of the road in my eyes, but wait... no central locking, no eleccy windows, no power steering,no alloy wheels and no flipping power...but I could dream of the day I got all of this and more like better clothes than mom thought I looked good in ( eek! moms choice of clothes ) a better watch, a better cassette player (yes really) maybe even a chance to go on a foreign holiday. Now look at today, every electonic gadgets have been secured by the age of 15, also all latest clothes have been bought worn tossed and replaced at least 5 times, been to Disney so many times its hurts. So 17 and along comes the new 1.3 Corsa on options £99 down and £99 per month comes with central locking, eleccy windows, alloy wheels, spoilers, and power.......so at age 19 what is to look forward to.......................anwer that. no wonder the youth of today seem so vacent....because they are. Nicer times......... for sure now, but only if you did the 70`s apprenticeship otherwise you don`t know any better. Jeff TT

Z31 = z32
Interesting bit Z31 engine options info here, more on the link below. Jeff TT Japanese Market Z31s The Nissan Z31 was released with a choice of five engines in the Japanese domestic market. The ‘export spec’ naturally aspirated and turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 (VG30E and VG30ET) 300ZX was sold alongside a turbo 2.0 litre V6 (VG20ET) version that was intended to appeal to budget-conscious buyers. These VG20ET Zeds are known as the 200Z, 200ZS and 200ZG. But more appealing are the 200ZR and 300ZR, which were released in late 1985. The 200ZR is powered by a RB20DET straight-six with a top-mount air-to-air intercooler. The ‘red rocker cover’ RB generates 134kW and only j-u-s-t fits under the bonnet. It’s also the final straight-six powered Zed ever manufactured. Equally as interesting is the 300ZR, which is powered by a naturally aspirated quad-cam 3.0 litre V6 (VG30DE). This engine generates 142kW. Both the 200ZR and 300ZR are quite rare and collectable. http://autospeed.co.nz/cms/title_Zed-Speed-Part-One/A_2491/article.html

is it worth it
Oh I see.... thats sounds an interesting idea, do remember to use a tank with a swirl catcher and returns for the fuel lines oh and carbon canister vents if you wish to continue using that. Jeff TT

is it worth it
Be super careful welding anywhere near to an open fuel tank, especially an near empty one, even more dangerous than a full one!. Jeff TT

HID Install now speedo problem?
Joking aside its a strange one, no reason that I can think of other than some cross back feed or like you said an earthing issue. How have you connected the power to the HID`s? maybe try temp disconnecting and seeing if issue goes away, slight possibility the ballasts are leaking electrical pulses, not common but can happen. Could always try individual balasts connected to see if the issue is just one side. Jeff TT

Newbie needs help with clutch (floppy pedal) and rattle please!
The reason behind the block is that from there an extra pipe is connected which comes up to the inner wing by the drivers headlight area for bleeding purposes. When replacing the cylinder just make up a single piece of pipe either in copper or in the ones available in flexible pipe, direct from the master to the slave, will work just fine and in my view is easier when bleeding and less hassle. is it worth it
Mmm....yes thats nasty but when repairing that particular area it is not really neccessary for it to be exactly the same as original, fabricating a strong repair is the most important, replacing the petrol filler pipe is easy and best to use one from an import zed. Jeff TT

is it worth it
The section behind the bumper is tricky to fix but not too bad and with some care the bumper does not even need to be removed, here is what it looks like after it is repaired The sill sections are similar in been tricky but with time and care can be fixed by fabricating repair section to keep the cost down and look like this. Good luck with the work and in answer to your question it is well worth doing Jeff TT
