What a terrible day zed viewing :( :(
Once traveled a touch over 200 miles to collect a car from a dealer we had left a deposit on over the phone, so trade plates at the ready off to the bank to pull the cash out and set off, drove through some of the worst rain I can remember to be told when we got there some one had just bought it... what the!! transpires the salesmen were not talking to each other and both had sales on the same car...was not happy at all cheeky sods then tried to sell me an alternative.......deposit returned and that was me away, fuming all of the way home... fuel pressure regulators
One way valve is built into the fuel pump, that maybe where that particular problem lies, however 10 seconds is still a long time to prime, fuel pump ecu can be troubesome. Jeff TT

Ford Cortina ( Savage)
Just seen this add on a classic car web site, old school Ford but just looks wicked even in estate form and its a 3.1 litre, in the text it reads its had a £45k restoration!!! yikes. Enjoy Jeff Ford Cortina Mk2 Savage estate immaculately presented For Sale (1970), White, for sale in Ripon, North Yorkshire, price on application. This very rare Ford Cortina 1600 GT Estate was converted to 'Savage' specification by Jeff Uren Ltd for a Mr JL Rogers of Potters Bar, Hertfordshire and was the second to last Mk2 Savage estates built. Complete photo schedule available on our website There are many invoices that accompany this Cortina. The original invoice for the ‘savage’ conversion shows that extras were supplied and fitted. • Pair of Traveller reclining front seats with sub-frames and runners • Weathershields Sunway slimline folding roof • Rostyle wheels • Lucas quartz halogen headlamp conversion • Twin spot lights (Silver Sabre) with a two position switch • Matching wing mirror and static seat belts. This invoice nearly doubles the costs of this Cortina when new. In 2002, the engine, radiator and brakes received an overhaul. A new set of carpets were fitted and a pair of uprated shock absorbers were fitted in 2003. In January 2005 the car was purchased by an enthusiast and collector of Savage Cortinas, during the current ownership, a fully comprehensive restoration has been carried out, costing approximately £45,000.00 and included numerous upgrades that were available in period from Jeff Uren Ltd. The car has been repainted to the correct specification white, with hand-painted coachline pin-stripes in red. Other items that have been renewed, include all new exact and correct reproduction badges, a pair of uprated rear leaf springs and vented front brake discs. Contour 6 seats and rear seats in leather have now been fitted. Interestingly, an original, but never used Sunway roof has been fitted, to replace the identical original roof. A genuine period and fully functioning Ford radio unit has been sourced and fitted. During the restoration, the engine was sent to Oselli for a full rebuild to 60" oversize and upgrade to Oselli '230' specification of 3.1 litres with a DFI5 single carburettor. Swaymar exhaust manifolds with a Chris Tullett bespoke stainless steel exhaust system have been fitted. A rebuilt Mark 1 Capri gearbox has been installed with a 3.09 ratio Capri limited slip differential. In July 2010, further minor works were carried out, including an oil and filter change and fitment of a new clutch master cylinder. Since then the front suspension has been fully overhauled and the overdrive unit re-conditioned. This Cortina comes complete with a great history file with letters dating back to when it was new A very rare opportunity to acquire such a car Currently undergoing our usual pre-sale preparation Viewing is highly recommended and will bring no disappointment.

Interesting switch
Aimed at the US market where they have all four electric adjustable shocks but could be used for the rears on a UK model I guess Was not a sale thread really but if you fancy it £14 delivered. Jeff

Interesting switch
Another touring suspension switch, only seen a couple in the flesh, looks different I guess. Jeff TT

auto to manual wireing
Just retain the auto loom, link out the starter inhibitor circuit and add reverse light cable from gearbox switch to the original plug on the inner wing behind the o/s headlight, neutral switch is optional, but if you decide to fit it, then cable over the gearbox and run into the cabin on the passenger side and you can connect to pin 44 on the ecu easiy. Price crash UK
Take a look at the prices from a leaflet we had in today at the workshop, not saying the head units featured there are top spec stuff but some of them are not too bad just the prices are so low the manufacturer must make peanuts 0n each unit! Jeff TT

whats my car worth if i broke it?
There was a time not that long ago where breaking a standard or near standard zed could reward you with a tidy sum, often more than selling as a road worthy zed, but this was mainly due to the absolutely nuts state of the second hand market and glut of poor condition zeds, but the increasing change in perceived values and the state of the countries finances has stripped ( pardon the pun) most if not all cars of most of their value as we know it, keeping your zed alive today has never been more of a challenge both justifing any cash spent as well as partners views on the subject, but then thats why we are are called enthusiasts. Today the nissan 300zx breaking scene is completely awash with general parts, breaking your own car in a domestic situation ( ie on your drive) is a challenge with the actual breaking, keeping your partner off your back, and don`t forget the neighbours. Parcelling up and shipping parts at the end of a hard days work can become laborious, runs to the post office and buyers chasing up delivery, as I said was worth the hassle for the extra cash but not no more. Five years ago we had on average 30 zeds at any one time we were breaking, but as the business of breaking changed we had to adapt and reduced to our average now of three zeds at anyone time, so there you have it, an abundant amount of spares out there on ebay, forums and us etc. unless you have lots of aftermarket parts that are worth big money ( are any these days?) the its likely in that breaking a working zed today is less rewarding finacially and time wise than actually selling it as a whole car. Hope that did not sound like a rant, it is my view based on changing face of breaking zeds for the past 12 + years Jeff TT

Propshaft removal
Mixing different propshaft sections can lead to vibration as they are normally balanced in one piece. Jeff tt

electrics
The clock and the heater screen is part of the position 1 on the ignition key ( accessories) and this is controlled by the ignition switch, it maybe a problem there or in the fusebox as mentioned above. Remember even a fully charged 80 amp battery can not substain that long with an accessory circuit still on, even a 1 amp drain will of course only give 80 hours but well before that it will be too flat to start the engine, it could even be a larger drain than that, get a clamp on amp meter on the battery lead. little bubble
Wheel arch corrossion can be likened to one of these. Short repairs can can be done ( chips away style ) but unless all of the problem is cut out then it will come back sooner than you think, no short cuts unfortunately, having had our tame welder / painter repaired scores of them it is often much worse than it looks, the sooner you deal with it the less costly it will be. Bigh 300ZX UK_TT - forged engine rebuild/install
Interesting read and well done for staying committed, bringing Jimmer in was clearly the best thing you could of done and it will ensure your cash is well spent. Actually followed the horror story of the zed this engine came from originally and has been well documented in years gone by, we helped recover the remains of the car but not the engine for the previous owner, sadly for him he basically lost everything and despite police, solicitors and insurance companies involvement nothing got resolved. It will be of little consolation to the previous owner that the block was scrap but he may concider that some parts of his will eventually be used in the way he expected some 3 or 4 years later, I have no doubt that many are aware of the culprits identity but it still surprises me when he is described as wicked zed mechanic that just had bad business accumen... this engine and I beg to differ. Keep up the good work and nice one Jim for sorting it out. Jeff TT

HICAS steering arm bushes
I assume your mean the little rubber covers have gone not the actual bush which is an interference fit into the hub? unfortunately if so the rubber is not available seperate, maybe you could get something close but a case of looking with next to no reference, changing the whole bush just for the rubber covers is expensive, anyway instock of you decide to go that way. 91 Z32 losing boost pressure!!!!!!!
Ok Marlow, first off the boost controller should have a non volatile memory so can remember settings even with no power, but that said it could get corrupted by an attempted start with a low battery but I doubt it. 350bhp on 1.2 bar, should make that kind of power on 1 bar really, so it could be better than you have been told or its not running a true 1.2bar. The fuel pump relay is in the drivers side footwell not the passenger, the boost electronics are limted to a few items on standard car all under the bonnet and as your on a boost controller you should be able to find it under the bonnet too. The issue could be a problem with the boost solenoid ( det sensor ) circuit if still connected or some issue with the settings maybe as you think, the flat battery issue could be a coincidence as zeds always have the ability to surpise you, needs a little investigation, find a garage with good diagnostic knowledge or a member from here with a ConZult etc. Jeff TT
