NZR; Running probs with my escort...
I thought I'd give it a shot, and see if anyone could shed some light on this one :D :bow: Escort, 1995, 1.6 Zetec SEFi Right problem one;.... I come to the car after it's been standing for a while, and turn the key, she turns, but doesn't fire up! Now if I press the accelerator down a bit she then fire up. Problem two (could be connected with problem one);.... I'm driving along and come to a set of traffic lights. I change down through the gears (Manual), and as I'm slowing down the revs arn't slowing as much as they should (staying around the 1500 mark), I come to a halt and , only, then do the revs drop suddenly, but only when I put her into 1st gear! Sometimes the revs drop that quickly that it'll stall! I've checked the free running of the accelerator cable and it is fine. Any ideas?????? :confused: TIA

Dash light dimmer/resistor
The dimmer does work on LED's, don't know why, but it does :confused: As for the brightness, then you should have got Super Bright LED's, but removing the dimmer wont make any difference, unless it's faulty!

Yep, the de-restrictor that you posted in the other thread will sort out the restriction. The reason that you only have 180kph on your speedo, is because of the restriction in Japan. When looking for a new face, don't forget to check that it DOESN't have the Turbo cut-out on it, as you have a NA

As for the dial, it only goes upto 120mph... DON'T BOTHER!!!! I see no point in bothering with this, as the proper dial should read upto 180MPH. As for the de-limiter, not too bad a price, and it should come with all instructions. As for getting the clear plastic off your clocks, you need to remove the two screws at the bottom of the rear of the clock assembly. These scews are attached to two metal strips that take the power to the four lamps in the underside of the unit at the front. Once these two screws are removed, carefully pop the black clips all round the joint (between the black and white sections), now slide the front section off the clock assembly. As for changing the clock face you'll need to remove the needle first, be very carefull. HTH

I Got The Horn Today!!!!!!!!!
:D Got fed up with hearing a pffft everytime I needed to press the horn! So nipped down to Halfords and brought a set of twin tone horns. Straight forward swap over, removed the centre panel, took my APEXi and MAF out of the way, and unbolted the old ones. Crimped a couple of lengths of wire for the earth connection, and "Hey Presto" a couple of beefier sounding horns, all ready for next months MOT :D

Following my dash pod lights.......
Right guys I've just had my dash out, and done some checking up. There are 4 x 501 bulbs on a standard J-Spec dash (I beleive the UK is the same) The 5th 501 is for the charge illumination, so you don't want to be changing this one. As for the blue illumination of the red needles, there are 4 smaller bulbs infront of the dash that illuminates the face up. So you have rear and front illumination on our dash! Also the 501 bulbs have a blue rubber mask over them, so they already show up with a blue tint, as also do the 4 smaller ones in front, so i cant see there being a problem, atm! :D Anyway I've orded 5 x 501 LED's anyway, as I'm going to put one in my auto gearbox leaver, as the 501 in there is crap, and doesn't show up very well at all. Will keep you posted once the new LED's turn up and I get the dash back together later this week.

Looks like I'm almost 95% sure to be out of work..
Can't say I didn't know this was coming sooner or later, just a bit of a pisser when it happends. Nothing on the horizon, as of yet anyway, so I'll see what happends next. All the details arn't sorted out yet, so waiting to see over the next few weeks. Looking like I may have to work for a living now!!!!! :shock:

Just had a meeting at work, and the future isn't bright anymore. The current project finishes at the end of January, and thats it, no one is buying the place, and we can't even give it away!!!! It's the only purpose built facility in the country!!! And no-one wants it :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal It's all political :xxx: It was a miricle we survived this long, but following my last post on this subject, we managed to get this contract, which has kept us going a bit longer. So the house sale is still going ahead, but I won't be able to buy the new one.

Just been looking through the on-line manual for you (HERE ) and the only other thing I could think of (other than what Paul has put) is that you could have a dodgy relay unit. But certainly check all three lamp switches and see what they look like. The door ones simply screw off, cant remember what the boot ones like. HTH

I'd have thought you'd be OK, as, if it's on a SORN, then you can't take it off the SORN without a tax disc... You can't get a tax disc without an MOT!! So you have to take it for an MOT before you can get a tax disc!! See, simple :D Wish you luck with it mate!!

I've got the kids that weekend, but might still come over anyway, so at least provisionally I should be there :D But then that is 7 days before my MOT runs out, so who knows :confused: Saying that I should have it in for the MOT the week before the 20th, that way I'll have a couple of weeks to get it sorted before it runs out. seatbelt question
There is an electrical connection on the door mounted Jap imports (don't know about the UK ones) that releases the seat belt once the belt clip is released from the clasp by the seat. I find that if I've over pulled it (ie: leaning forward looking round tight junctions) I just press the seatbelt release button and quickly push the clip back in, it tightens the belt back up. I've not tried dissconnecting the wire yet, but might give it a try.
