The size of these engines if well maintained they can go on forever There are some on hear that have over 150K on the clock with std turbos. So they say :)

The only advantage to the bypass is to prevent leaks as there are less pipes and 4 joins insted of 8. blockages in the small pipes and to free up the coolant system There is no down side to doing this. But if you want to keep it as is then replace and the old with new or you will have a leak soon after once it has been disturbed. Also with doing the bypass it makes it easyer to remove and replace the plenum in the future :)

Yeah you will need spacers for them to look good. You need around 10-15mm hubcentric spacers :)
