Bought my N/A from a chap for £800. 59K miles, immaculate inside and out, gunmetal gray with original wheels (unscuffed). Needs a new gearbox but this is being fitted in 3 weeks. Hoe much is it worth once repaired?

Just to clarify prior to booking in my car for a new gearbox! This is my problem. The car drives fine, kickdown works etc. The gear changes from 1-2 in “D” but when it gets to 3rd the revs go higher bu the speed does not increase. Any thoughts prior to me shelling out? Also, did the diags and no codes.

Itw weird because 1st and 2nd are fine! Then in 3rd, the revs go up but no speed!

When I say *new* I mean new to me. So would a recon or used fix the problem?

so a new box would fix this I assume?

Gonna get a new box fitted by Chunk but can someone highlight possible reasons why this would happen? Thanks!

Just since I bought it everyone and his mother seems to want to race (I dont bother), just be nice to think "Yes I would win" lol!

Why does it seem to move (i am probably being dim), when idling it is below 4 (middle) and when accelerating it rises a little?

Can someone point out the differences for me (N/A only) between these two? Especially what the button by the Auto Box means (it says Speed (i think) and something else, it is a flip switch)? Also, the N/A, what road cars can it beat out of interest, any new ones?

its a bugger cos it has just passed a 12 month MOT!! they mustn't look! lol

will it drive ok until I can get the new box? overdrive does work by the way.

Hi All! Got a Zed today, great price dirt cheap! I knew of the problem before I bought it but want advice. Basically wont go into 3rd gear, 1st and 2nd fine, but will not change into third. I CAN use drive but when it tries to go to third the revs go up but the car doesnt speed up. Thoughts? Thanks!

OK, going to take a chance on this and pick up tonight, he claims to have the mechanics report outlining the problem, so I guess I will wait and see. Wish me luck!

£800, with 56000 on the clock (verifiable) import.

How much for a fix? And is it feasible that it could be oil seals, apparently they are: Crankshaft oil seal to gearbox and rear oil seal on gearbox. Apparently it is sporadic and not happening all the time. He says kickdown and overdrive are fine? Thoughts?

Well apparently it has been diagnosed as Oil Seals.

If a Zed loses top gear occasionally could this be the oil seals in the gearbox? I ask as the Zed I am looking at buying has this problem and the mechanic has diagnosed the oil seals. Any thoughts?
