  1. Yes but the combustion gas will remain in the water long enough to detect. I took the car out and put it under load. Then waited a while before releasing the pressure then started car up and applied the block tester. No Gas according to tester. The H/Gs were only done when the engine was rebuilt 4K ago, so I was thinkin crack but not so sure now. Although I suppose only visual inspection and pressure test of each component will show it up. Engine strip again i suppose
  2. Andy, I had it on for over 5 mins and did it twice with diffrent fluid???!!! The Block tester kit is brand new. Yes seems like HG or crack to me too. Only thing I have a problem with is that it will run at ldle with no probs, I can drive it normally and no probs, the problem is when its under load. Any ideas??
  3. As I posted before, my ZED chucks its water out when I give it some stick. I thought the system was pressurizing from either a crack in the head or block. BUT, today I got round to running it up and putting a Block Tester on it, this proved negative, No gas in the water. :hyper: Now, I've been wracking my brain and realised that this problem started after I fitted a lightened and smaller underdrive pulley so the pump isn't turning so quickly. the engine runs fine, sweet as, no misfire or any other tell tale sign of a crack in the cylinder area. Has anybody else had cooling probs due to underdrive pulley or a weak water pump?? The temp gauge does not go over halfway and its never shown as overheating. I can leave the engine idling for hours and it never chucks the water out or gets hotter than normal temp, incidentally the fan doesn't come on either, I can run it and rev it, still nothing, but as soon as I run down the road and put it under load the water comes out of the expansion tank. Could this be due to the extra heat from the turbos, load and the fact that the water isn't moving quick enough? I've though of a blocked rad but this gets nice and warm all over. So any experiences of waterpump trouble guys and girls.??? Jase
  4. Mate, thats a good price for a brand new lump. If I had the cash mate I'd have one as mine appears to have either a crack in the head or block. Unfortunately I haven't, but you should advertise them on here, i'm sure someone whos doing a full resto would take your arm off for one!!!! Jase
  5. Hi Nend, Just read this thread. Just out of interest what is the price of your three engines?? Are they new or recond? Jase
  6. Has anyone else got any thoughts?
  7. Me to, they all say 30,000 miles but dont know if they can prove it. they come with a warrenty though so if there issomething wrong with it they'll give you another, but after shoehorning a lump in the last thing I want to do it then have to swop it!!!
  8. Has anyone bought or have any feed back on these engine for sale on EBay? They all seem to say direct from Japan and less than 30K miles! I would prefer to rebuild my own but having just done this and it only lasting 3500 miles before something has cracked inside, I'm wondering if this is an economic option. Thoughts please guys and girls. Jase
  9. No, I've got a gas tester but the fluids gone off, IE it should be blue but is yellow before I start!!!??? so no good. But I'm resigned to the inevitable. My therory is, this apparently was doing the same thing before I bought it. Its got 2 ,2nd hand, tested heads, so its either a Turbo or more likely a cracked block. But I love my Zed so will get on to it over the winter, hey I might even whack a couple of uprated Tubs on it and a few other bits!! Got to look on the bright side?
  10. LMAO - I like your optomisum but Its chucking out too much water to be a bit over full.
  11. So checked it out tonight, ran car for ages. Pressurized system with pressure tester, held good as 1.5 bar. Never lost any water. Put new rad cap on. Temperature just under half way. Then took it for a road test, system pressurizes and blows water out of expansion bottle. When you then switch it off you can hear the system bubbling inside. Its not boiling, its pressure. The engine runs fine and there is no loss of power and it appears that the pressurisation is when the engine has been down the road IE when the Turbos blow. I know it could be a crack in Turbo, Block or Head. Anyone else had any of these and was it a case of striping it until you found it or did you discover them by other methods. :(
  12. Fry - Yeah, elctric fan works fine, Madmodder- no small leaks and no pressure drop under test and my mate put more pressure in the system than is normal. Engine doesn't get hot on the gauge, theres no overheating as such. The car never ran when I bought it so wasn't able to see what problm was then. But I've done +3000k miles in this and have tested it vigerously, if original problem existed after rebuild I would have expected it to have shown up before now, I've used every day!?!? Gonna try and ahve a look today if I get time this eveing when I get home from work, if I find anything I'll let you know.
  13. Cheers guys, not looking on worst side for moment, will try gas test and run up with new cap and see what happens. The cap is 17 years old so can't rule that out. thermostat is new with engine build. Yes Chrisbond65 won't be the first time I've done work for the sake of it and found out it was something much simpler!!!
  14. Had it pressure tested today, just in case. Mate said it held pressure for 30 mins without dropping. Ordered a cap as well cause I've heard funny little noises from it, but then it is designed to release small amounts of water/pressure in to the expansion tank.
  15. Did have that running water sound in the heater matrix and even though I jacked it up at the front and ran it up I've never got rid of it. I thought it had cleared itself which is why I had put 1/2 a litre in this am. But think its more terminal than that now. Bloody thing!!!!
  16. So drove home from work today, took car to nissan garage during the day final look over and Consult check and set up before we depart next weekend for Spain in the ZED. Only, when I got home and just lifted the bonnet for a quick look I could hear bubbling and saw water all over the Nearside inner arch, it appeared to have sprayed from the expansion bottle. looked underneath and water all over nearside wheel and floor. No over heating though! :headvswal :headvswal   So waited a while, took cap off rad, no water. Topped it up then ran it up but can't reproduce it. Runs fine. took up the road and back still nothing. Can't go to Spain it if I can trust it, will have to go in other halfs MX5 go cart  What would cause pressure in the water jacket? When I bought it this was the reason I got it cheap, it didn't run and the guy I got it from said it kept blowing its water out. I thought head gasket, so engine out, 2 tested 2nd hand heads, newgaskets, rings etc. Bin fine for 3000 miles apart from external stuff. Could there be a crack in one of the Turbos?? Car got hot yesterday stuck in traffic, never overheated but fan came in and stayed in for a long time, checked water this am and put 1/2 litre of water in, gone down hill since then.
  17. Thanks everyone but I think this is the least of my worries - see next thread
  18. I read on here once that you should get the highest second number you could get as our Zed engines get hot. So a 10/60 would be best. This would stop the oil shearing at high temperatures. So, I went for the 50 but I think Carl is right its took thick when hot for normal everyday use, and I do use my Zed every day.
  19. I recently changed my oil and have since noticed a Tappet noise. I think I'm going to be opening the old oil debate but I put in 5/50 fully synthetic. I wanted to get 10/50 or 10/60 semi synthetic but these are difficult to get hold of. Do you guys think that the Synthetic stuff is too thin?? evn though it meets the Spec. I never had this noise before changing the Oil so am wondering whether to Swop it for another grade. Your thoughts, Jase
  20. Mate I wouldn't worry about that. The oil on the Turbo is minimal and could be running down fro above. the oil on the rest of the underside does not look like it is coming from this Turbo. Can you see another leak from anywhere else? Look at it this way at least your floor won't rust!!!!! Our cars are roughly 15 years old, poor old bu**ers are entitled to chuck a bit of oil out.
  21. Thanks mate, will update properly with findings once stripped wires back. Jase
  22. BLack ZED with a modified front air box panel(waht do you call that?) About 10am today (Sunday02/09/07) cruising along Margate seafront. I was on my way to Canterbury to fix my Zed and get her back home. ;) Jase
  23. Well went to work and got the zed going. :hyper: It appears that all the wireing along the timing caseing has gone hard and brittle, when I bend it the engine cuts out. So, there must be a wire broken inside. So, tomorrow its out with spare wire and a soldering iron and cut it back till I get to the soft stuff. I suppose this could be the source of my hessitation/breaking down under load, thoughts anyone??? Thanks for the offer Paul, but keep my spare PTU in the car, safer that way with an old Zed. Although I suppose an 8mm spanner would of been a good idea as well :headvswal Cheers everyone.
  24. Thanks guys am off to work to see if I can get it going, got spare PTU so will try that first. Will let you know. regards Jase
  25. Bloody thing! Its nver failed to start even though I've had this running problem. Drove to work fine, 10 hours later, won't start???!!!! Fuel pump runs, and I can smell fuel as I turn it over but it won't fire. Had a quick look in the dark but all connections ok. So, would the PTU just give up like that?? Maybe thats been breaking down and causing my hessitation problem?? Thoughts please guys and girls.
