What fuel?
Thanks guys. I'm keen to use the regular unleaded with an octane booster as I get the fuel free (sometimes!). I guess we'll see if it blows up! I'm told super unleaded is just higher octane regular unleaded so with a booster it should be ok, I guess. I might check with some specialist garage before I try it though. Scottywill; I got the car at a dealer in Watford. I always wanted a 300 but I don't have the mechanical ability to keep a ten year old car on the road. When I saw this one I was dead keen even though it's an auto non-turbo. I'll get some pics soon.

What fuel?
I just bought a 300zx ('99, Jap, N/A). I wondered what fuels to use. The dealer who told me said he thought super unleaded. I can get regular unleaded now and then through work very cheaply. Any idea if it'd damage the car using regular unleaded? Can I use an octane booster with regular unleaded? Thanks guys ps. the car is great; love it!

Right; I'm gonna go and look at it. What should i check?
Lack300's car is £12,500 which I don't have. It's also a few years older than the one I'm looking at and while I'm sure it's in top condition I just don't have the know-how to look after an older car. I can only just afford to insure the NA car so one with loads of extras, more power, bodykit etc would probably cost even more. So I would like Lack300's car but I can't afford to buy or run it.

Funny paint finish?
That sounds like it, yes! I thought it looked like a proper thick Nissan applied coat. Many thanks Geoff.

Loads of good advice there, thanks. I didn't buy it but might go back and have another look. He said when he first advertised it, he had it up for £12,999. Anyone know if that's true? Cheers Tim

strosek wide body kit
I was wondering how much a cm belt change would cost on a non-turbo. I'm also trying to find a garage that unserstands Zs near Peterborough. Cheers

shoud say 'it was so neat' and 'Just wondering if that's the case or if it might be hiding some horrors' I should read these before posting!

Funny paint finish?
I was looking at this 300 I might buy and noticed the paint on the bodywork just behind the front wheels looked a little more 'rough and textured' that everywhere else. It was so near i could beleieve that's how it left the factory. Just wondering if that is the case or of if might be hiding some horrors? Cheers Tim

I did drive a TT. A mate at work had one. It was pretty fast. He tried to sell it to me for about £2500 but it was a knackered fairlady with 120,000 miles, 1990 reg etc and was costing him a fortune to keep going, which was why he wanted to sell it.

I don't seem to be able to PM for some reason. my number's xxxxx xxxxxxx If you text me or something I could nip round and see your 300. It sould be useful to know what to look at etc. I'm near Tescos. (note from mod: phone number removed at Craig's request)

Thanks mark I'm going quite early tomorrow so probably haven't got time to see yours. It's a good offer and I might take you up on it. I won't buy this one tomorrow; I just want a test ride and if it seems ok, I'll go back in a week or so, give it another thorough check. It could be useful to have a guided tour of yours before that. Cheers Tim

I guess I could have a Supra twin turbo but not a 1999 one. I'm keen to get a new-ish car as I can't afford to spend loads keeping it going and I think a 1994 car (and that's the sort of Supra I'd get) one would need lots more maintenance than the Nissan.

OK, I've told the girlfriend we can't have a holiday this year, and maybe I'll give up smoking too so I can (sort of) afford this 300ZX I mentioned before. (It's on autotrader, 1999 S-red, auto, non-turbo, Jap import, 35,000 miles). Any idea what should I check when I go and look at it? I've had a look at several on line buyers guides and there's so much information it's a bit confusing. I'm hoping cos it's from a dealer and reasonably new, if it does go wrong I can go back and make him fix it (I'm a consumer journalist!). But any advice would be really handy. I'm mechanically competent with bikes but not really with cars. Thanks folk. Tim

Should i buy this 300ZX (non-Turbo)
By the way, that car's been on Autotrader for months now!!! As he can't sell it I'd offer him £9,000 for it, you never know he might go for it! I bet he paid less than that to import it! :D [/b] nice one; thanks Paul I might go and look at it at the weekend and i can't really afford £11.5K anyway. But knowing he's had it for sale for a while sure helps. How many mpg do you get from your NA? Cheers Tim

Nissan
Crickey. Is the 300 faster than a Skyline?

Should i buy this 300ZX (non-Turbo)
thanks guys Yes Pete, it's the one on autotrader; do you thin it's any good? I guess I could get a turbo one but I can't bring myself to buy anything pre-98 and this is the only 300ZX I've ever seen registered after 1996. I'd almost given up on the 300ZX altogether and was going to get an Accord type R. But i saw this one and thought it looked sweet. Any idea what 0-60 time the NA manages? And how easy would it be to turbo it later?

Should i buy this 300ZX (non-Turbo)
I know, I know. I'm actually called Tim but that's not very funny. I just like Bo Selecta. Is it unusual a 1999 300ZX? I always wanted one but am terrified of buying a ten year old car.

Should i buy this 300ZX (non-Turbo)
Hi folk. I've seen a 300zx for sale. It's a japanes import, non-turbo, automatic, 35,000 miles. It's 1999 (S-reg) and up for £11,500. I'm tempted to get it but I'm worried as it's non-turbo. Is non turbo much slower (especially automatic) than the twin turbo ? Are any other parts different (ie suspension / brakes etc) ? Could I turbo it later without having to change much else ? Many thanks people Craig David (ok, that's a joke; I'm not really Craig David, soul sensation)

Should I buy a 300ZX
Ok, I bet you guys are biased but should I buy a 300ZX? I have a 200SX (S13) at the moment which is fine but I think the 300 looks sweet. I ride motorbikes so I'm used to high performance and I had a drive in a mate's Fairlady, which seemed pretty quick. I almost bought the Fairlady (J-plate, 120,000kms, nice condition, £2500) but I'm terrified of huge repair bills. The fuel consumption and insurance I can live with cos they're predictable but how much will servicing / engine repairs cost? What's a worst and best case figure? (I bet people ask this question all the time...) Craig David (no, not that one...)
