Smithys smashing shiny bits
Did the remedy involve anything other than tightening them back up? I would hate to have my shiny pipe pop off in public.

Smithys smashing shiny bits
I've just ordered lots of goodies from Smithy. I was going to go with the red hoses on my red car. Smithy said this might be a bit much. Does anyone else have a red car with red hoses? If so do you have any pics of the engine? This second question may seem daft and I won't go into why I want to know but has anyone ever had one of these shiny pipes pop off their engine due to too much shiny and not enough gripy? Jonno.

2 buy or not 2 buy
If you buy an early car and drive it every day......and drive it like a 300zx Twin Turbo.....you have to expect to have your hand in your pocket on a regular basis. I used mine as a daily driver for about a year and I found it very expensive. However - I drove it like I stole it! Just my experience of course.

Police got me :( - guilty or not?
The info supplied was from a Traffic Officer I phoned to make sure I wouldn't make a :smw: out of myself. If he's wrong I want my poll tax back frankly :) Jonno.

"Ferrari look" alloy wheel.
I spoke to ROMAX in Stockon-on-Tees who specialise in refurbishing alloy wheels. They wouldn't help me because mine was a split rim. I don't know whether this only applied to straightening my wheel or if refurbishing split rims in general is difficult. Perhaps someone else could shed some light on this. They are a great looking wheel if not a little on the small side :) Jonno.

Your points count against you for 3 years with effect to road traffic convictions and insurance weighting. However they don't get wiped from your license for 4 years. Jonno.

"Ferrari look" alloy wheel.
Hi, I have a set of 5 spoke 17" alloys that came with my car. They look like a Ferrari copy of some description. They had O.Z centres on them but I have seen identical wheels referred to on this forum as Modena autostrada. The question is did O.Z make a wheel like that. If not has some dodgy bloke stuck O.Z centres on someone elses wheel? Does anyone know where I might get one of these mysterious wheels from (front). Mine has a very slight buckle in it that won't quite balance out. Although bizarrely there is no cosmetic damage. I can only assume they got bent whilst I was driving near the sun.....or something :smw: Jonno.

Insurance....again ....sorry :/
Too late was the cry. Phoned SE/Nisstek at 3pm this afternoon and made myself feel better by letting bob tell me all the nice things he could do to my car. No sooner was I off the phone with SE, I had the RAC on the phone and some 45 minutes later my motor was winging it's way down to SE.....for free (go RAC). Having driven Tonys manual....thats the first thing that's going in. Rip that naughty kick-down-on-a-bend autobox out! :hyper: Thx again for all the help. I'll ring all these companies again for my renewal and post all the prices up later. Jonno.

Insurance....again ....sorry :/
Conclusion: Thanks for all the information guys. There is no happy ending to this story though I'm afraid. Haughton and GSI were the most accommodating of all the companies and were certainly prepared to offer some keen prices with all mods declared. Haughton said £850 with a £350 excess and they would negotiate on further discounts for less than 5000 miles and more voluntary excess. What they wouldn't do was agree a value over and above £7500. I spoke to Dominic at GSI who told me that even with a third party valuation of the car they wouldn't be able to insure it for more than the £7500. He said insurance companies just weren't interested in doing that kind of thing anymore. The moral of the story is: Get an insurance quote before you do anything else when buying your next car because it doesn't matter how old you are or how clean your license is.....if you loose your expensive Z the insurance company will be writing you a very small cheque ;( A big thank you to Tony Lack for all his help. Guess I'll have to pay my membership and spend some pennies on my Z instead.

Insurance....again ....sorry :/
Hi, I know the insurance questions have been asked over and over but... I have a J Z32 TT with the usual, air filter, chip, boost increase, exhaust and wheel modifications. I pay £585 with Privilege insurance. I'm trying to buy another Z with more power. J spec, manual with 350-400 BHP. The car is valued up to 14k. Now even with my age (30), full unprotected NCB, no convictions, no claims, clean license, limited milage (5k), voluntary excess of £500, cat1, trakker, garaged, domestic/pleasure only and a second car, I am being quoted.....wait for it.....£1800  That's with Adrian Flux. Tesco quoted £1812 (go tesco!). Hyperformance £2000. Privilege Insurance £2327. Many other companies including most of the ones mentioned in previous insurance threads refused to quote. There must be other people in a similar position on here. Imported car with 100BHP mods and cars which are far in excess of the market value. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on getting cars like this insured preferably for under a grand....I'm 30 ffs!!! Jonno. 1990 J Z32 TT Auto :/

Looking for a good mechanic (North-East)
Yes Stuart I am talkin about F*lcon. Thanks for the offer on advice, I may just take you up on that sometime :) NEPerf, I think we have met. In fact I think we both used to take our cars to the above garage. I'll drop you a line mate. I did try and call you the other day but the number on the forum wasn't answering and the email address just bounced back. Cheers Jonno.

Looking for a good mechanic (North-East)
Thx for the reply Stuart :) I'm about 5 miles up the road from you in Lingdale! You might have seen my Red ZX trundling up Guisborough high street. I had been using a company in Middlesbrough who were very very good but oh so expensive. I also know a chap who works for Nissan who is very good but difficult to get hold of. I'm buying another ZX in a couple of weeks and really need someone who knows there stuff but doesn't want to have my eyes out. The only other Z owner I've spoken to on Teesside about servicing goes all the way to Vine Place  Jonno.

Looking for a good mechanic (North-East)
I'm looking for a good mechanic/garage to carry out some maintenance on my Z. Can anyone recommend one near Middlesbrough, preferably someone you've used and who doesn't cost the earth :) Cheers Jonno. 1990 Import Z32 TT Auto.
