...I've has 2 lots of pads in my na - same spec and size as tt. Green stuff lasted less than a year and I drive like a granny. Current pads from Mike at MJP...
  2. I see you are in Ipswich. If you want the benefit of my 3yrs ownership knowledge, just email me. I'm in Ipswich too, but mines an NA. Done everything myself, so might be able to help. Which dealer are you getting it from? Jack
  3. John ...I replaced the belt and waterpump, so I've no real knowledge about replacing the cam seals. I recall that the 60k service info on the US site covers these items so I would suggest looking there. I printed off 2 sets of info from different sources then used the Nissan manual mainly for it's diagrams. All 3 together formed a reasonably comprehensive set of instructions. Sorry I can't be of further help... good luck Jack
  4. John when I did mine I found that getting the tensioner to the 'right' setting was not straight forward. As you move the belt in different directions it places different tension onto the tensioner and moves it in and out. So trying to set it to the specified measurement is mainly guesswork. I found that the only way to be sure was to follow the instructions in the manual (printed out the pages from the CD) and not to follow the instructions from Twin Turbo US site (whatever it's called). They seemed not detailed enough, but they might have changed by now. It's a time consuming exercise, and it does not make a lot of sense, but it's prescribed by Nissan, so best to follow it. good luck
  5. I'm the same. I was intending to change it just because it's been in there for the 3 years I've had the car. It was clean (red but clear) when I got the car (Jap import), and now it;'s still clear but more brown - what should I do...

  7. Dan ...thanks for raising the question. I can't help but as an auto box fluid change is on my list once the weather improves, I'd be interested to know from anyone with experience of any tips, tricks type of fluid, dos and don'ts etc. I'm sure there's a few of us out there that would be interested. thanks in advance Jack
  8. Aki ...they'll all run shy of a Z. I just took the old battery in and told them it's out of a nissan, and I want one similar. They dug arround and found one that was about the same size (always safer if it's a tad smaller) and had the terminals in the right place. It took longer to type this reply. Battery went in no probs, and has been great ever since. AND I've a 3 yr warranty - gotta be a winner. I don't believe most of the crap you get (with a sharp intake of breath) when you tell them it's a Z. I mean, the old battery was nothing special, most likly cheap Japanese, why should it's replacement be anything special... good luck Jack
  9. ...take your old battery to Sweedish and German, and ask for one about the same size. They do a Bosch 62 amp that fits - slightly smaller - with a 3 year guarantee for about £52. Fitted one to my na just before Christmas. good luck Jack
  10. ...I've got a spare cat you can have...:D
  11. ...after 20 plus years of changing gears, I thought it was time for a change. Maybe it's an age thing...
  12. ...you have to remember that it's one of the best looking cars available today without spending silly money. I bought mine for the looks, not really interested in the power - and I do like the t-tops. And whilst I'm on reasons for buying, their rareity was a big factor, can't be seen driving a bland grey euro box...
  13. ...downside is people think the drivers are Essex drug dealers - or they used to in the 90's. Now they just know we can't afford a Ferrari...
  14. Conrad ...you are opening up a can of worms here. The choice is yours - drive all variants and make up your mind. Compromise when top quality is staring you in the face at a give-away price... good luck
  15. Marty ...mines an na (so not so many pipes), but in the 3 years I've owned it I've done all that it's needed myself. I'm a graphic designer, but like fixing cars, so only have DIY knowledge. As Andy says, if you understand how things work and why they are there, the 300's no different to most, there's just a lot of it. I'd add that the quality of the 300 is good - never had any coroded bolts that won't budge etc. good luck Jack
  16. Willie ...to my knowledge only Jap imports have lock-up in 2nd - something to do with relatively slow cruising speeds in Japan. But I didn't know engine braking happened with the od off - and thats after nearly 3 years of ownership... 2nd thing new from you this week. cheerz Jack
  17. RX& wins - it's famous for having no springs or shocks, 17mpg if you are lucky and if you are over 5 ft 2in tall you won't fit in it. Wait for the new one - man at Mazda say's the price will be shockingly cheap - they intend to sell lots - and it's got a carbon fibre prop shaft.... wow...
  18. I've a 1990 NA with auto tranny and about 90k miles. The change characteristics differ with tranny oil temperature. When it's cold it seems to hold the lower gears longer than when it's warmed up. Try accelerating steadily so that it goes through all of the gears. If it's cold, it will often stay in 3rd longer than seems necessary, but if you depress the accelerator it'd speed up and move into 4th (overdrive). When it's warm, this auto flatspot dissapears. You will also notice that the tranny will tell the engine management to ease off the gas when it's about to change. If you are accelerating medium hard when this takes place then it's ok, but if you cruising on the point of changing from one gear to the next, this 'ease off the gas' becomes more noticeable. Finally, mine's a Japanese Import ie sold in Japan then exported to the UK later in it's life, so the auto gear box has in effect (and I'm going to get people upset here) 7 forward gears. first, 2nd, lock-up in second, third, lock-up in third, overdrive (4th) and lock-up in overdrive. It's possible to feel all of these stages as the car accelerates (steadily) from standstill to say 60mph and above. ...as for the auto dipstick - back of the engine, opposite side to the engine oil dipstick, same yellow o ring top. Don't get them mixed up they are different lengths. ...hope this helps. Jack
  19. these Pilots were the end of a line - tread pattern re-designed. Paid about £72 / £75 each for a set of 4 - list was about £120 /£130 each. Been a fan of Pilots ever since I san a set on an early Saab 9000 - transformed the car.
  20. nice one Willie - I hadn't thought of that. One more item on the to-do list. cheerz Jack
  21. Willie 32k - Falkens (£70 each) but then again mines an na so I can swap fronts and rears to get even wear - and I drive like a granny and cover about 18k miles a year - most of which is on the M25 - oh joy... Just switched all 4 for Michelin Pilots on offer £72 each. cheerz Jack
  22. John ...I know it's a long shot, but what state are your pads in? When mine need replacing I get real good juddering. As soon as new (thicker) pads go in the juddering dissapears. Like you I replaced the disks and tie bars and only solved it with new pads... good luck Jack

...removing the prop from an auto box is not difficult. You have to do it if you replace the centre bearing, so have a look on the USA TT website for details about centre bearing replacement. Basically, get the car up in the air, remove exhaust from cats back, mark where the diff mates to the prop, remove a few bolts inc centre bearing and it just pulls out of the gearbox. Don't know how difficult it is to replace the seal though... good luck Jack
  24. Gentlemen ...thanks for the advice. I'd bought a new battery for my wifes Saab 900 a couple of weeks ago - Bosch 66amp with 3 year guarantee from Swedish and German, so this morning I took the old battery in to them and bought the nearest I could find - slightly smaller than the original and 2 amp more - 62 amp rather than the 60 it replaced. £45 plus vat and the same 3 year guarantee. I thought it was a reasonable deal. Anyway, car started first time and's been great all day - done 250 miles High Whycombe and back... cheerz Jack
  25. ...had it on charge but it won't hold it - so it's time for a new one. Question is what amp rating? - 60, 64,66,70, 72 etc. Mines a 90 jap na 2+2. Any info greatfully received. cheerz Jack
