  1. Ah cool, seen it rumbling around on a friday night/weekend....? I work away all week so it wont have been out during the day very often. Would be good to meet some other members, have to see if im allowed.... gf may have other plans for me, but the Zed came first in my life... ;)
  2. I might see if i can come along to this, I have a track day on the 24th, so we shall have to see if the Zed still works afterwards...! If im free i'll try and make it up. I have a Grey Twin Turbo Import, Reg num "K15 ....."
  3. Chris Cave Lancaster 1993 Twin Turbo Auto Targa
  4. cheers mate, i'll try and get it of on sunday.... Going to be a problem with no wheel on saturday.... bit of a track day at croft ;)
  5. nah its not. But im pretty convinced it has had at some point because the connector that the three buttons for the cruise control connect to is not behind the steeringwheel cover as it should be... So I've got a feeling that at some point in its life its had a fancy steering wheel attached to it. I'll have to whip the existing one of and have a look down the column. I took the plastic casing around the steering column of last weekend but couldnt see anything interesting
  6. yeah i do. Ah no worries, lots of issues on the steering column with my car. I expect they are all related. Just wanted to check, another "fix it soon" entry for the list
  7. I have a really daft question, i have a 1993 import ZX, are the indiactors meant to automatically cancell? Or not? Seems mad that a car of its specification (when it was new) wouldnt have indicators that automatically cancelled after completing a turn, but then again it is from Riceland
  8. Technically the positions 1 and 2 are gear limiters, in "1" the gear box will not change out of first, in position 2 it will change between first and second, designed for long decents where its not advisable to be on the brakes all the time. In D but with overdrive disabled it will advance up the box through first second and third, and then flick the overdrive and it will settle into its top gear. Having it in "2" has other advantages, like if your driving through some tricky corners and dont want it changing gear at the most annoying times, stops it kicking down into second since its already in the gear. Or towing (which of course most people take their 15mpg Zed's with their 18 ft twin axel abbey supergalactic "get in the way" edition) caravan.... ;) If your box is like mine, with Hold and Power then Hold makes the car start in second, nice and smooth, but its a bit mechanically un-sympathetical if your put your foot down. Slips like a bitch, and it can be a bit sluggish pulling away uphill out of junctions, so i tend to flick mine to normal to start moving and then into hold around town, keeps the fuel bill down. In theory "power" is ment to make it change down more often and hold gears, but it doesnt seem that different to normal for me.... But i'll report properly after saturday, going to a track day at croft (wahoo!)
  9. i think he's saying that there is a bottle like the washerfluid bottle but on the passanger side, Trusting its a right hooker :)
  10. fair one. Hmm, unfortunatly i work away from home all week so it gets quite difficult to get things done a car thats sat outside my house. Unlike a normal car where id just take it to a garage and say fix it, i dont think anything local would have much of a clue... (I mean when I rang up a local prop shaft balancing place, they asked what it was "NISSAN 300ZX" i replied, and they thought it was a pick up truck.... :-/ ) I think i'll explore having the wheels balanced, can't hurt. Then realise its going to cost me about a million quid to fix properly lol
  11. My last BMW had an issue with wheel balancing, and this feels somewhat different to that. That vibrated the steering at certain speeds, this is a worsening vibration the faster you go, noticable stronger when decelerating through higher speeds. It starts to be noticable at 60mph, but only just slowly more pronounced up to 90, over 90 it gets prominent, being mechanically sympathetic i dont like it. Altho even at 120 + its not like its going to disintegrate. If you have ever driven an old saxo its like they are 70 lol
  12. Hmm, yeah i suppose i should rule out the easy and cheap potential issues. Try and get them done when im next at home. Is it possible to tell which component (or if its a combination of) is causing the vibration? Or just a case of work down the list and see when it stops? Say if someone who knew 300zx's was to ride in it, could they put their finger on it?
  13. do you think its worth just having that replaced, while the prop is being balanced. I presume its all gotta be taken apart anyway. What sort of brass am i looking at to replace that? Found a price of £155 +vat for an Nissan OEM part, but im not sure if thats a good price or not?
  14. lol comeon, i'm not quite that bad ;) It has all the buttons for it, its just the 3 on the steering wheel are not connected, and i cant find where it plugs in lol (it has the "on off" switch on the right hand side to enable the system, and the "cruise" light comes on in the instrument cluster
  15. My car has cruise control, which doesnt work. When the cruise button on the right hand "bank" of controls is pressed the system engages, well the light comes on and "cruise" is illuminated. However it doesnt seem to responsd to set, resume etc etc.... So to cut a long story short, i noticed that the edge of the top of the steering wheel trim was loose, i figure no worries just pop that back in. On taking the cover of the steering wheel of i noticed that the cruise buttons wernt plugged into anything, furthur more the connector for them to plug into has gone (you can all see where this is going....) Where should it be? Is it possible its dropped down the steering column? (the horn has also been moved on my Zed, to the top of the steering column) Are there any reasons for this move? Seems strange to me. Unless at some stage its had a non standard steering wheel on, and never been reconnected. What do you think?
  16. fair one. I see what your saying, and it makes sense. Hmm, i've had quotes for having it balanced but non of the places have the facility to remove it, and I dont want to do it. I've not asked any local garages about having it removed, and then refitted. I have found a place that will balance same day for me, but that still means the car being on a ramp (i presume it cannot be moved with no propshaft?) and i dont want to have to pay for a days labour if its not that much work to remove. I'll freely admit i can quote numbers all day to people, but when it comes to doing my skills are worse than non existant.
  17. thats a damn good idea my friend. Thanks
  18. I have a 1993 Twin Turbo auto, it has got a slight vibration, noticable from 60mph onwards, by the time we get to 120 to 130 its getting quite bad, it feels bad to me anyway, not used to vibrations lol It seems worse when decelerating from these speeds. I think its the propshaft that requires balancing from reading around, but if anyone has any different ideas or agress with me (would be a first :D) I would greatly appreciate it Thanks Chris
  19. yeah. I found hold, its far better in that for out and about. I cant understand why its forever trying to change down, twin turbo or not its still a 3.0 v6 under there, doesnt need to be forever attemping to swap cogs. Thanks for the info, i had a bmw 323i before this, so im used to rear drive and its always slippery around where i live so i've learnt to be naturally cautious! Im very impressed with it so far!
  20. Oh thank god :) Cheers!!
  21. ohh i see, i'll monitor it... it would make sence its only when i put my foot down. (i only picked the car up today you see!) I couldnt tell, because it did slip a couple of times on the way back to my house (i live up a load of little lanes that get a bit wet from time to time) That would explain all... i wonder if it explains this light in the gearbox section of the book... not read it all yet!! Cheers for that
  22. Right, i have a 1993 Fairlady twin turbo.... Everynow and again when i put my foot down and it starts to accelerate an orange light comes on which says "power". Is this some sort of traction control (i didnt think the Zed had TC??) or is there a problem?? It feels restrained when it does it, so it feels a bit like some electronic limiter but i'm not sure. I have a UK manual for the car but it doesnt list anything in there about this mystery warning light... Please help!!
  23. Oh i hope so, i'll look a tit if its a pain in the ass. I'm in love with it though, not even got it... It has had to have some new rear suspension arms to get it through the MOT, it felt A Okay to me to drive! But there we go! But thats being done at the garages expense (i forgot to mention last month it had a full replumbing of the cooling system, so that should be fine for a few years at least). I only have the garage picture of it, didn't take any on saturday my self. For some stupid reason! I'll put them up later
  24. I'm also new, joined to read the wealth of advice... And from it i purchased a 1993 Twin Turbo Auto Targa on Saturday. I pick it up later in the week, it has done just under 58k. Regularly serviced and well looked after, even got the original roof panal storage bags! Buyers guide was a god send, checked through the lot and all seems ok! I paid £4495 for mine. Which i didn't think was too bad. Has the electric drivers seat (all working), cruise and climate control (have to admit i didnt check the cruise!), and leather which is spotless The car in general is immaculate, not a mark on it. Not worth mentioning anyway! Some nice 17" gun metal grey alloys which look good with it, and it has a HKS exhaust
