Driving Atitudes
I only see other zeds when im in the van, so no doubt they would be a little concerned at a van flashing them.... I know I would be. I think I would be pulling over to check what was wrong, smoke/fluids etc LOL

Thinking about buying this BMW 318is
as said, they are not particularly brilliant on fuel. the 320 (a bit long in the tooth, only built to 95 ish) were the M50 6 cylinder motor so even heavier on fuel. (changed to M52's with the change to the 323i (a 2.5 @170bhp) and the 328i, (a 2.8 @ 192bhp)) If you can find a clean 325tds, they are a cracking bet. 318tds is a little gutless, (only a 1.7 td, bless it!) Avoid the 8valve motors, really a bit pathetic, 106 (ish) from the 1.6 (later 1.9 including the first 2 years of production of the E46) and 115 from the 1.8 (later 1.9, again same with e46 for first two years) After the engine upgrades the e36 had the M44 engine (over the M42), which were a 1.8 in the 316 @ bhp and a 2.0 in the 318i @143bhp) 320i 325i 330i were all M54's, 2.2 @170bhp 2.5 at 192bhp 3.0 @ 231bhp

Auto Trouble (~@#'#)
must be goosed mate, go for a manual conversion. Or try fitting a shift at will, then tell me how you got on with it... Have you seen those?? known as a "saw2" by ess racing. or something like. Seems a wicked idea, cheaper than a manual conversion as well!

pulsing
alternativly make sure all 6 coil pack plugs are firmly seated!, my car (rather annoyingly) losses number 1 on regular occasions, mainly due to bumps in the road. One of the "plugs" has a "lug" snapped on it so it doesnt click properly, just another job!

Engine Weight
Let me guess, only engines that are weighed without oil and water are ones on pallets about to transported from say, japan to perhaps, your house! But other than that mate i wouldnt know! http://www.amztech.net/pages.php?vid=13 Thats quite an interesting website, lists every other technical figure just not the weight :(

Auto Trouble (~@#'#)
sounds silly but the kickdown switch is working ok?? Odd that it sits in second when you have stopped tho. Possibly a speed sensor acting up? im not entirly sure how the gearbox senses speed, but it must have a way, and i cant imagine it does it of the abs sensors... since if they packed up it would mean the gearbox would be as well... Does your abs work ok?? lol To be honest im guessing, but you can hopefully see my train of thought

Zx Auto newb
well... depending on what was done the S14, if nothing you'll really notice a difference. Mayby not especially of the mark. But the ability at 100mph to just take of like a flying machine is amazing. Plus you'll have a proper sound track ;)

Different cams for a flatter torque curve i believe, to make the wide gears in the autobox more effective, role on 85 in second ;)

Zx Auto newb
268?? i thought they were 280 and the manuals 300?
-
Zx Auto newb
280bhp standard when it was new. 0-60... well take your pick seen it listed at 5.0 to 6.2, seems to be common around 5.6. Interesting bit of trivia, Nissan USA claim the Auto to be quicker to 60 than the manual.... But that could be limitations on the USA drivers, and their ahhh issues with "stick shift"

(NW) Sun 29th Apr: Monthly Meet, The Norman Jepson
Was nice to meet some members from here, never seen so many Zeds in one place... Was a good meet, despite my two attempts to order food to the wrong table... Doh! Pitty i had to dash of down to my mothers, but have to see the family from time to time! Incidently, i was attempting an economy test yesterday, had covered about 100 miles wheni landed back yesterday, at an average of 25.7 mpg... Which isnt bad for the old Zed lol... Might almost be do able as a commuter....

Auto Box Differences
i would say not, dont all the jap autos have the power and hold settings, as well as other differences like the lockup on second...?
