Yes. The fan has a viscous coupling so it runs with the engine. As for the battery, I guess it depends where you buy it from and how long its been sitting on their shelf? They are usually charged.

When you say wet carpets, I presume you mean coolant from the actual matrix leaking onto the footwell area. You can do a simple bypass to stop this. (if you think it might be a couple of weeks till you replace the matrix) Let me know if you want details or pics.
