  1. Blimey! So it might give you more downforce but it's more weight and (more importantly) it'll increase drag, slowing you down. I'd also be worried about the front wheels lifting off the ground with those sorts of angles! So I'd be sceptical at best regarding the functionality of the thing (perhaps make a good tea tray for camping trips). From an aesthetic POV, I'm afraid I'm with the majority. But then it's not my motor! BTW, can you see out the back window with that in the way? Russ.
  2. I used mytyres to buy Toyo Proxes for all four corners. They were great and very cheap. I'd recommend them in an instant. At least it's a trader I'm allowed to recommend ;) So far I've find the Proxes to be very good. They're wearing well (though I'm not really one for leaving rubber on the road anyway), and they're quieter than the Pirellis I took off. Grip is good enough for my stock TT. Russ.

I have a UK TT with cloth trim.
  4. Alex - I'm a londoner too, I used to have a S14a 200SX Turbo, which I got to ease the suffering of the holloway road out of London on a friday night. I had it for 1 year, and sold it for my current car - a 300ZX TT with a manual gearbox. I got really sick of the Auto after a while. In my view the talk about speed and 0-100 acceleration is pretty stoopid. The car's very fast anyway, and on most roads it's just not suitable to be going so quickly. Track-days are a different matter, of course. What I wanted was driver involvement, which in my experience is considerably greater with a stick-shift. I find the TT clutch fairly light (certainly in comparison to a certain 1970s rear-engined german sports car I used to own), and generally I'm much happier stirring my car along. Having said that, if you loved your 928 (Mmmmm, nice car), then I could see why the Z with an autobox would be appealing to you. Whiny V6 though?! ;) Auto-boxes? Rally cars, F1 cars, touring cars are all semi-automatic sequential boxes. Rubens Barrichello can either change up himself using paddles, or let the box do it for him. Plus, the Enzo ONLY comes with a semi-auto box. Last thought - if Iwas sitting next to a driver who downshifted into 1st at 30MPH I'd open the door and roll out.... Best of luck, whichever way you go. Russ.
  5. Alex - It's highly likely to be a scam. Be VERY careful, and take a look at this site Cheers, Russ.
  6. Andy - Personally I'm sceptical about web submission companies - in the searching world Google is king, and there's simply no sure-fire way to get rated there (or speed up its crawling). The most common advice is to submit your site to dmoz (http://www.dmoz.org) - this is a human edited catalog of sites, and anything added to there is automatically added to Google's crawl-list. Problem is that it's human edited and there's no guarantee that you'll be added. It is free though. Other general pointers: * Think about the keywords that people are likely to use to search for your site, and make sure they're in the body text of various pages on your web-site. * Make sure your TITLE tag contains a good sprinkling of the keywords. The TITLE tag is highly weighted in Google ranking. * Make sure you don't use doorway pages or Redirects at the front door of your site * Try to avoid frames, and where you have framesets, use the NOFRAMES tag to put your text in - bots will read this. * Check you don't have a "robots.txt" file on your web root, or anywhere further "up" the web server you're on. * Where you use images for text, make sure your TITLE tag and ALT tag are filled in * Try to get other sites to link to your site. This back-linking is a mainstay of Google's ranking algorithm. The more sites that link to yours, the better your page rank (generally). * Don't be tempted to use SEO cheats such as cloaking or keyword spamming. Google-bot will likely find it, and you'll be in their black-list for good. HTH Russ.
  7. Marky - Yep it's a speed sensor issue - a common problem among zeds, usually more pronounced during the winter months. The other main symptom is the power steering sometimes going heavy or light (because it's speed-variable and governed by the signals the sensor is giving). A lotta people reckon you can just clean the sensor, or replace just the worn cog(?) I must admit I haven't got round to doing mine yet... Russ.
  8. Oh, 6 inch, not 6 pipes?!
  9. heh, exactly. This is me on my wedding day. She's Myyyyy Wiiifffe Nnnooowww! Anyway, I took a look at the receipt last night and it doesn't help much, I'm afraid. Geezer-man bought a J/C 6697 in May 2002 for £491.74 inc. VAT. I've no idea what a J/C 6697 is, and it looks like there're no fitting costs at all. So, all in all that probably doesn't help too much! Cheers, Russ.
  10. Stuart - Sorry I forgot last night. It's on my hand in ink now (some people might look at me funny on the tube with "TUBS" written on my hand...) I'll let you know tomorrow. Cheers, Russ.
  11. I *think* my UK TT had one of it's turbos replaced by Turbo Technics (shortly before I bought it). Can't say whether they were nice blokes but both my turbos work and the cost was pretty cheap according to my receipt. They'd probably be my first port of call when I next need some tub work. Most of this is from memory. I'll take a look at my bill-stack tonight and try to come back with more info. [ sorry, I'm running stock boost and stock everything else, so performance measurements are not too useful! ] Cheers, Russ.
  12. I think I can - email Alex at my work (from the PM). He should be able to give you a URL. Russ.
  13. I've sent you a PM Vijay. I work for a company that may be able to help you. Cheers, Russ.
  14. I had this very problem. Took em off and tried to clean em but to no avail. Blew down them, blew up them, wiggled safety pins in them, dropped them in mild bleach solution, squirted WD-40 everywhere. No luck. Paid Mike Feeney 15 quid for a couple of new nozzles, and all my problems are over. Well, all my windscreen washing problems anyway!! Check out MJP Eastern Auto in the Traders Forums. Cheers, Russ.
  15. If it helps JB, I'm experiencing the smae thing - speed sensor was bad last winter (erratic), but absolutely solid all the way through the summer. It's recently started playing up again. I'll be spying on this thread to see what you find out! Good luck, Russ.
  16. Hmmm, I have one or two to add: * "Moaner": Underworld Impossible not to speed when hearing it. Very dangerous on the motorway. * "Dog in Heat": Missy Elliot Should also include the intro to the "So Addictive" LP, which merges into this track. Admittedly it should be in a beach jeep, but the Zed'll do. * "Lapdance": N.E.R.D Where do all U.S. pop acts currently get their urban gritty production? See above. * "Guerillas in the mist": Paris Unreasonably hard-core west-coast socio-political rap. Perfect for Chingford. * "Number One": Playgroup Bumpin' disco-funk * "I against I": Massive Attack feat. Mos Def From the Blade II soundtrack. Rarely has gloss-black menace been so purely distilled into 16 bars of silky-smooth bass and rhythm. Test your subwoofer using this track. * "I believe in a thing called love": The Darkness Mentioned before. Dangerous for air-guitar related loss of car control. I believe if we add these tracks, we be illin' :p Russ.
  17. Anyone here driving up and down in a pearlescent white import with baked-bean can exhaust pipes in Baldock, Herts yesterday? Was it you? Russ.

I found this, so you can probably affect it from the next time Windows starts up, but I don't think you can do it using the registry to directly affect the volume. Russ.
  19. yeah, and my cat has taken to crawling around on his belly looking worried. It's not like it's only one night either. It's more like a month either side of bonfire night. Grrrrrrr. Russ.
  20. Folks, A friend of mine has just had one of the wheels fall off his car when he was driving it. This was just after new tyres were fitted by a North London garage. It's damaged the car (to the tune of around £500), but fortunately noone was hurt. My mate wants to sell his car, and the garage has offered to buy it straight off him for £400 more than he would expect to get for it. My question is: Should he get rid of it, put the episode behind him and buy himself a japanese car, or should he pursue the garage through a solicitor etc. DISCLAIMER/REQUEST: I know this is a contentious issue, and is perhaps uncomfortably close to past events related to this forum. I'm very keen not to ignite any bad feeling and I'd request that we kept the responses hypothetical! Hope this is OK, mods! I'd really like to hear from traders on this issue: If you PM me, or email me at russhendy@NOSPAMhotmail.com (remove the NOSPAM), I'll treat any messages with complete confidentiality. But advice from anyone would be much appreciated! Thanks, Russ.
  21. I'm an old aspirant so my jiz-mag of choice is EVO. Max Power is not interesting to me at all, being for children and misogynists. I also read the Economist and, occasionally, Edge magazine..
  22. Yeah, LSD is standard. No traction control though lots of people have it put on aftermarket. HICAS 4 wheel steering, ABS, close to 50-50 weight distribution (for the 2+2 LWB). between 280 and 300BHP (standard) depending on transmission and country of origin. V6 very solid and reliable engine (at least with no mods). Can be upped to 400BHP-ish, perhaps more with lots of work done. Front engine / RWD configuration, variable valve timing, self learning ECU. Climate control and cruise control as standard. Many have leather seats. Lots more information here (thanks to AndyP) For an idea on servicing costs take a look at ZedWorld. You can save a lot of money by joining this forum and leeching off the incredible knowledge of the members here, like I do :D Big questions are which transmission type and whether to get an import. I've said it before and I'll say it again: important to get decent service history, especially with regard to oil changes (every 5,000 miles is good) and the timing belt (must be done every 60,000 miles). My stock exhaust actually sounds pretty uninspiring, though the engine note gets better and better through the rev range. Many members here set off alarms as they drive past, so you can pretty much get the zorst note of your choice. I looked at the RX7 before going for the ZX. The w a n k el scared me off, both in terms of MPG and grumpiness when driven short distances. They look better than the ZX, in my view (leave me alone faisal), but the nissan is a better all-round package. They're quite heavy cars so don't expect mind-boggling 0-60, but they're *great* to drive. Cheers, Russ.
  23. Hi Matt, Probably easiest to look here for all the info you need. MPG varies wildly, but on my stock UK TT I manage around the low 20s generally. Cost of running depends on the service history and (probably) mods. For me it's less than your beamer probably costs, but I'm super-anal about regular oil changes, which as most people here would agree, is money in the bank in terms of keeping the car sweet. Just point any more specific queries here and I'm sure loads of people will help. Best of luck finding your new wheels, Russ.
  24. Cheers Mike - will do. Russ.
  25. Yeah, it's gonna be SOHC per bank. I guess two of the valves will be intake, with one zorst valve per cylinder.
