  1. -Audi has disclosed the first details of its all-new supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. It will be called TFSI in which the T no longer stands for turbocharged; the FSI is Audi's usual moniker for direct-injection (fuel stratified injection). - This is not the first time Audi has used a supercharger, also known commonly in Germany as Kompressor, as in the case of Mercedes-Benz. In the 1930s, the 12- and 16-cylinder engines of the Audi's Grand Prix racecars built by Auto Union were supercharged. - Since the 1970s, Audi focused on turbochargers that feature widely in current models. However, Audi today says comparative tests have shown that a mechanical supercharger is superior to a twin-turbo setup in terms of acceleration and responsiveness. - Audi claims that the supercharger can ideally slot in between the two banks of the 90-degree V6 to gain on compactness. The TFSI produces 290hp at 5,000rpm (redline is 6,500rpm) and 420Nm of torque between 2,500-4,850rpm. - The entire engine is claimed to tip the scales at 189kg, meet Euro 5 emission standard and yield over 10kpl in current models, whose engines are longitudinally laid out. The cars in reference are the A4, A5, A6, A8, Q5 and Q7. - The first model to get TFSI, according to sources, is the S4 due this October. It rivals the BMW 335i that uses a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six developing a higher 306hp at 5,800rpm but a lower 400Nm, albeit via a wider rev range of 1,300-5,000rpm. Average fuel consumption of the 335is is rated at 10.5kpl.
  2. gmail is very good. you can use 'Google Apps' and have your own domain name too. for instance it would be possible to register ( for instance ) zx-eyes@zx-eyes.mooo.com and use that as your email address through gmail. http://freedns.afraid.org/domain/registry/ I've set many people up for this. pretty neat for a freebie.
  3. Heres a thread too, from when i did it. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=106639 then this: http://tech.aus300zx.com/idial_install/recalibration.pdf also, it would seem that a working speedo, albeit in MPH or KM/H is nor needed for a MOT. the one in my volvo has said the same readings on the odomoter for number of years, nor has the speedo worked for years.
  4. The first car to go over 100km/h was electric, in 1899 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Jamais_Contente Here is the link to the tesla motor you probably want. 3 phase AC motor. ~300-400Volts. Up to 600amps. Air cooled. 90lbs. Size of a watermelon. http://www.teslamotors.com/blog4/?p=45
  5. why would you not run it on petrol? wouldn't be a real hybridz then. Bolt something like this (Tesla motor) slightly modified from the picture and away you go. i'd never replace the heart of the car. "Max Mosley of the FIA has announced that all cars will become hybrid by 2013, along with other changes to the vehicles. The governing body of international motor sport, the FIA, has allowed the use of 60 kW "Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems" (KERS), in the regulations for the 2009 Formula One season.[5][6] BMW and Honda are testing it The hybrid system that will be implemented in Formula 1 is known as KERS, which stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery System. The maximum power that can be released from such a system is restricted to 60 kW by the FIA. Energy can either be stored as mechanical energy (as in a flywheel) or can be stored as electrical energy (as in a battery or supercapacitor). The first of these systems to be revealed was the Flybrid which appeared in an article in Racecar Engineering magazine. The Flybrid F1 KERS System weighs 24 kg and has an energy capacity of 400 kJ after allowing for internal losses. A maximum power boost of 60 kW (81.6 PS) for 6.67 sec is available. The 20-cm diameter flywheel weighs 5.0 kg and revolves at up to 64,500 rpm. Maximum torque is 18 nm. The system occupies a volume of 13 liters. Two minor incidents involved testing the KERS system in 2008 have been reported. The first occurred when the Red Bull Racing team tested their KERS battery for the first time in July, it malfunctioned and caused a fire scare, resulting in the team's factory being evacuated.[10] The second was less than a week later when a BMW Sauber mechanic was given a electric shock when he touched Christian Klien's KERS-equipped car during a test at the Jerez circuit. Automobile Club de l'Ouest, the organizer behind the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans event and the Le Mans Series is currently "studying specific rules for LMP1 which will be equipped with a kinetic energy recovery system." Toyota has used a supercapacitor for regeneration on Supra HV-R hybrid race car that won the 24 Hours of Tokachi race in July 2007."
  6. My thoughts from beer and smoke discussions on this are, it could be possible to put two electric motors into the zx, one on each of the rear axles with this being the central spinning core. Then, you also get the added bonus of magnetic braking to charge up the batteries but also ridiculous amounts of torque when you floor it.
  7. hello, any ideas on how much a front strut brace made from carbon fiber should worth?
  8. Hi there, after badly recalibrating my speedo... discovered this little jobbie - not ordered it yet though: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/bluetooth_hud_gps_review_globaltop_hg-100.php its bluetooth GPS dongle (for mobile phone with no gps but TomTom) , with the added advantage of a head up display of your speed.
  9. Hello, I have lost the ability to indicate... the hazards still work, and the stalk still allows me to change the headlights. Is there a separate fuse for this circuit? Cheers.
  10. Hello, anyone got a Miles Per Gallon (or KM/L) guage? Where would one begin? Is there some software which works with a conzult connection already? From what i understand, this is common on OBD-II ECU's. I figure that it would be measurable (with a little maths) from the injector pulse rate and knowing fuel pressure (variable) and injector pulse (also variable) width ? Are there devices which could simply fit before, say the fuel filter, to measure unpressurised flow - though i realise this would be a buffered reading and perhaps better for cruising anways? Cheers.
  11. Hello, recently had the gearbox out. now has high emissions (failed MOT) and can be quite hard to start. was OK before this. Any suggestions as to where to start fixing? diag appears to have no faults. i was thinking, would a dodgy O2 sensor cause this? Perhaps temperature sensor reporting the car is permanently hot/cold? thanks.
  12. Send an email to their support. They are real good. all you'll need to to is download it from their site, and send in the new registration key to register the new copy again. real simple, i had to do this recently when i reinstalled windows.
  13. Hello, i have a some rust which is on the top of the windscreen, under the rubber seal. Its now pushing the rubber away a bit, and is probably about 3cm along though only about 2mm(visable) into the metal on top. It needs work. I'm assuming that to get this bit chopped and cut out the windscreen has to come out? Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to do this around Cambridge area? Any ideas what kinda costs I'm looking at? Many thanks.
  14. Hi there, was looking for something else, and followed the link from Concept Z Performance to their engine blocks. I was curious, how is it that they can sell brand new blocks? Do Nissan still manufacture them or are these stockpiled somewhere in the world? I don't need one, but its good to know they are still around. cheers.
  15. Hello, has anyone tried using a UV leak dye, such as: http://www.devildogtools.com/trle50wauvli.html
  16. Here is a thread - there are others: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=106639 also this appears to be quite handy, though I haven't yet found a oscilloscope cheap enough to justify a purchase of. Built the signal generator though. http://tech.aus300zx.com/idial_install/recalibration.pdf I remember reading somewhere that the speed signal goes through the speedo, then to the ECU so if your speedo is off then other things such as cruise control can be affected (I may be wrong on this, but it looks like it when reading the manual)
  17. They have changed their site around. Info is still there: http://tech.aus300zx.com/taillight/taillight.htm
  18. Hello, i can't seem to find any water leaks, yet my radiator level is down each time i look - it looks empty when peering in the top. I also notice what looks a bit like foam on the top of it. Is this just a result of the water flowing, or is it something else. I'm kinda sure, that i can see a slight rainbow oil film on them. The liquid is still nice and green from the antifreeze/antirust solution. The engine has done about 16000 miles. Anyideas? Performance does not feel to be down, and when comparing conzult data from about 9 months ago the readings are similar. Cheers.
  19. this seems better. written by some germans. http://www.maspware.de/products/gpsmeterpe/index.php
  20. good point. i'm using the demo at the moment, it rounds to 0.5s here is another file you may want. http://rapidshare.de/files/38490995/gpsperformance_1.4_.zip.html
  21. this page may be useful for you, look for the download called routerstats. http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm
  22. Hi, i got meself one of them flash phones with amongst other things, GPS. This is quite neat to have: http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&language=english&platformId=2&N=96806%2027%2034&productId=202955&R=202955
  23. For future reference: R10 in my dials was 33k and needs to be replaced with a 20k resistor. Then a little tweaking of the variable resistors.
