  1. Phoned Blackmoor to be told that Phil "doesn't bother with" Zs any more - great shame, like you say he did great work at a decent price and was always pleasant to deal with.
  2. RichardS: Thanks for the tip - I'm in Manchester though, so Bristol is a bit of a trek. I've seen that Jimmer is the go-to guy at the moment so longer term I may plan a trip down to get the Z some TLC. Really, I have messed up this year - I used to go to a place north of Mcr where Phil (ex C&S Woods) worked, but it's fairly out of the way for me (I am towards Stockport, other side of Mcr) so it was always a pain to get to/from and friends/colleagues thought it was crazy that I go so far just for car servicing. So for servicing/MOT this year I went to a much more local place with good refs. They are a decent honest garage and competent mechanics but they don't know the Z and their communication is terrible, I've had a couple of problems since and both have been a total pain to get sorted (mostly because they won't admit when they can't source a part - which I find weird!). Right now I'm also locked out as the battery died and the car has no working keyholes ? My intention is to get this sorted (they're keen that they can do it without removing the dash - my initial request was that they just bypass the matrix, but they insisted that they could get the part no problem) and then go back to using Phil for regular servicing, because this has been way too much fuss. If the car holds together for next MOT then I'll likely look to Jimmer for some major TLC, but right now my faith in it is very low.
  3. Cheers for that! Looks like it would have been a fair bit cheaper to have got it as a Primera one than a Z...
  4. OK, went with the linked item as CZP's compatibility checker suggests NA/TT are same part.
  5. Hi, My heater matrix has sprung a leak and the garage seem to be struggling to get a replacement (waiting on a call back from them atm, but it's been over a month so far & I don't hold much hope), so probably my best bet is to source one myself. 1. Is the heater matrix the same for NA and TT? (car is also SWB but I am guessing that doesn't matter!) 2. Any recommended source? I found https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113344885229 £60 Kenjutsu brand from Conceptua Tuning, so if nothing else (and assuming NA/TT use same part), I'll go for that. Cheers for any help! Brian
  6. RIP Mike, only dealt with him a handful of times but he was always a gent and extremely helpful.
  7. Sounds like it may have been me, a red SWB NA that makes a terrible amount of noise :P I was taking a Japanese visitor from work down to Oxford, and as we walked to the car he said "You have a Fairlady? Very famous in Japan!" :D
  8. Autosol here as well! Five years on and the SS backboxes still come up looking shiny and new every time :)
  9. Heh, I figured cheap would mean *cheap* in this case :D But originally I thought headers + fitting would be >£1k, and that seems to be WAY off. Sorry to be dense, but when you say the rear pipes are different, you just mean the rear pipes of the exhaust, right? Rather than the fitting from the header to the front of the exhaust? I've already "dealt" with the rest of the exhaust, which is why I thought to worry about SWB differences :P Thanks for the reply, by the way :)
  10. Hmm, I'd be interested in headers too, if they make so much of a difference to performance and aren't a major hassle to fit. Those Ebay ones are *alot* cheaper than I was expecting these things to be too! I've got a SWB NA - does the SWB take the same as the LWB?
  11. Yeah, the red Z32 is mine, a SWB NA manual, and I flunked the start on that run :'( I think the cockpit shot with Clarkson talking is from the first run, so you can see I didn't do too much better even then :P Gio was making excuses for his boost leak even before the run, but he absolutely flew, and was grinning like a madman afterwards. Heh :) That was one of the nicest groups of people I've ever met, and such gorgeous cars! The Z31 has completely changed since, from what I've seen. It was pearl white with blue trim, now it's deep blue with a facelifted front - sort of a shame to lose that 80's look, but it looks *way* more modern now, and I think he changed it to a manual... Hmm.
  12. Hehe, I know the feeling ;) Well, that sorts it then - I'll go straight-through as well :) The car already overfuels when cold, and is loud as hell - I just want it to be a "good" loud again, instead of a knackered-zorst loud. Thanks for the info! :D
  13. From what I heard, they're to give some back pressure on NAs, so I wouldn't think they'll be any help on a TT. I was hoping to get some made up for my NA (since my mid section needs replacing), but the only exhaust chap I know was vague and seemed reluctant to do anything but straight-through. speedemon - is it your NA that has straight-through? If so, do you feel you've had any issues from lack of back pressure? Thanks in advance.
  14. ScottyWil - yeah, I did it:) The sound credits in the XB version list it as a Mitsubishi 300ZX though :(
  15. Hmm so much for a disclaimer... all I know is that we used to get alot of people with no post, and doing this would often sort the issue, especially if it was a PC that hadn't been started up for a while. Pssht, I don't pretend to know the reason, just that it's worth trying because it only takes a moment :(
  16. First thing to try would be to unplug power from the base unit, hold the power button in for 10 secs, then replug power and try starting up again... This is some kind of ATX reset - I'm fuzzy on the details (translation: knowledgable people, please don't jump on me for my vague layman understanding :P), but sometimes it seems ATX mobos collect a trickle of charge over time which can prevent them posting. The reset clears this, and would be the first thing I'd try if it's been sat a while plugged into the mains. Otherwise, unplug everything but the basics (keybd, mouse, monitor) and try again. Do you get any beeps at post? Do you usually get any?
  17. What's the rear spoiler on that pearl one?
  18. I use Sygate Personal Firewall ( http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm ) - it's free, easy to use, spyware-free.... :) I'm still running Win98, which it seems to work *very* well with, so I couldn't comment on whether it will have issues with XP.
  19. Heh, I was reminiscing about Nico to DaveC only a coupla days ago :'( I wasn't aroundin his heydays, but when I first got the Zed and posted here, Nico came out of the blue and offered to come look it over for me. Top guy! :)
  20. Love the colour-coded magic tree! :D I've got a soft spot for the meccano spoilers, but it seems alot of them just don't look right on the Z - look like they're too narrow for the car, yknow? That one looks nice, though :)

Unless you were the chap with the lil red NA Z32 that comes in 10secs later :'( Gio's sig has a link to that vid, IIRC. Great day! Great people! The gorgeous 260 that came in third!
  22. ^^as Kay says! Although it took me a bit more searching and effort to get it working, since I run Win98 :( Should be far easier on XP though. You can use it as a cam on MSN, or to capture images or video etc, although I've not tested the mic. One odd thing is that the cam image is mirror-reversed with some apps - same way it would be while playing EyeToy on the PS2! :o
  23. Yay, I use EyeToy as well! :D That's probably only useful if you have one already, though - the cheapest EyeToy package is about £30, I think :/
  24. Too drunk to read anything past start of page 2, but... I've had my NA SWB for about 3yrs, as a daily driver, and it's been barely any trouble. My worst problem has been having the PTU fail on me twice (both series 1...). I've even managed to pull the car through two years of poor employment (first year doing minimum wage temp jobs, second year in a call centre at about 14k), which has to be saying something, eh? :D That said: I got lucky in getting a decent example at a good price; it's only an NA so it doesn't have the smile factor of the TT; although it's a daily driver, my commute has always been pretty short (15mins each way, say). Probably other people have said it, but the key is getting a good car, and making sure to give it regular servicing & love. All the troubles you see on here are because people are more likely to be posting when something's gone wrong than when everything's running sweet, and perhaps cos alot of people on here have the modding bug :P Best advice I saw on here a while back about costs, is to make sure that you have a k or two in the bank, just in case something terrible happens. Bottom line for me is that the Z32 is a gorgeous car and makes me feel a ton of self-respect. I'm proud to have a 15yo car that has more modcons, and gets more attention and respect, than most other cars on the road today. OK, so I wandered off the subject because I'm drunk, but I don't care! - I LOVE MY ZED!! :D *staggers off*
  25. I have exactly the same problem - thought it was just my imagination that it seemed to be worse in the wet, though! Mine only goes high too, and sometimes seems to be pulsing, so I keep getting the "going too fast" bonging noise. From what I've heard, it'll either be the speed sensor, or dodgy wiring on the kph/mph converter box thingy. The steering goes heavy because its assist is speed-variable - I'm not sure if getting this means it can't be the converter box doing it, though :/ I still have kph clocks, but they're not original (prev UK owner replaced them with Nismo turbo ones :S), so I'd be interested to hear if it could still be the wiring behind the cluster, or if it's defo the speed sesnor for me :(
