possible gearbox and boost problems??
i take it TPS is Throttle Posistion Sensor?? i've not been able to warm the gearbox properly because of it slipping. when i checked the level cold it was well above the hot mark. i was able to warm the box a little, but the oil level was the same, it was where the cable meets the metal bit on the dipstick

possible gearbox and boost problems??
i have done the diagnostics test tonight, this was all ok. checked the transmission fluid and it now has a slight hint of bbq flavour, and is a light shade of brown  . its possible it may have been overfilled, will this give same symtoms as being underfilled? so first thing is to change AT fluid and filter. when starting the car there is now a loud buzzing noise (sound like a dodgy electric motor) coming from the back of the engine, prob from transmission, this lasts for about 5mins, then quietens. this happens when engine is both hot and cold, even if i shut engine off and restart it immediately. before this happened yesturday the car was driving fantastic, it has only done 300miles since i picked it up (i'm first uk owner), and i've been driving it off boost almost all of the time, only put foot to floor a couple of times, with the engine fully warmed up, and it went like a rocket :D . there's been no hint of safety boost.

Bhp
a lightened fly-wheel/ud pulleys don't increase crank horsepower, they don't increase the intake charge or fuel delivery - required to produce more power. as said before they reduce the amount of power lost to the transmission, so you will see more power at the wheels when on the rolling road. anyway brake horse power doesn't mean a great deal, all you should be interested in is the amount of torque your engine is producing, as it is this that makes the car faster.

possible gearbox and boost problems??
had the Zed on the road for a couple of days and when driving it today, i started having problems after driving it for about 40miles, mostly on the motorway. once i got to a built up area and stop-startin at the lights i was putting the auto-box into neutral, then when putting it back into drive to pull away the gearbox was sometimes staying in neutral and delaying engaging drive. occasionaly the only way to get it into drive was to stop the engine for a 30secs, restarting it then it would be ok for 10-15mins or so. the gearbox was also dropping out of drive when in slow moving traffic or stopping with it still in drive. was ok once back on the motorway on the way home, until i was almost home. also getting an intermittant boost prob. the car will be driving ok, but then as i pull away from lights etc, or after being in slow moving traffic the engine isn't generating any boost at all, staying as a vacuum, so not even in safety boost. this was also coinciding with the gearbox prob on occasion. please don't just say gearbox is f**ked etc, can someone please try and give an explanation. sorry about length of post, but very concerned. thanks in advance. Pete....

URGENT tyre advice needed pls
thanks danny. took a look at some federal tyres today, at a very good price, a 265/35/18 came in around £85+VAT, and a 225/50/16 is about £45+VAT. just got to get saving quick for some new wheels, as i don't want to keep the standard wheels.

URGENT tyre advice needed pls
whilst we're on the subject of tyres. my car has currently got brand new jap-spec tyres fitted. will it be ok just to replace the rear tyres, as the fronts grip fine even in the wet, unlike the rears :( this should only be for a few months while i save up for some new wheels.

Dangers of Street racing
because i'd rather save the racing for the pod. anyway, whats the point in driving the 300zx fast? no-one will be able to see it, i don't need to show off the 300bhp when the car looks this good

Dangers of Street racing
the guy's a tw@t for street racing in the first place. it wasn't about pulling away quicker from the lights in town, he was at an organised illegal race meet - therefore he deserved to get caught, he knew the risks and was stupid enough to ignor them.

car started 29times with the error code 12 AFM
you can't fit a MAF from a skyline etc as they a smaller size. in fact the skyline boys fit the Z32 MAF when tuning, because of its greater airflow. check the connections first. if they're all ok, then get someone who knows what they're doing to look at it, i'm sure there's someone on here who could check it out for you. you should avoid driving the car till you get the MAF sorted, if it starts dettin then you kill the new engine. your doing alot of damage driving it like it is, while the engines still bedding in.

traction control?
thanks everybody for the advice, will definately sort the tyres first. a mate has got a R32 GTR with some 18" ultralites fitted, he's going to be selling these soon and has offered them to me first. will the fit my Zed, they've got brand new tyres fitted, 255 wide all round.

traction control?
would the money for the TC be better spent on a set of 18's with decent tyres? and then save up for the TC in time for winter?

traction control?
its on brand new bridgestone's, they were put on in japan. i know jap tyres don't have the higher speed rating, but i won't be driving it that fast, i've already scored 6 points
