massive thanks to powerzed
I have over the last month picked up my zed from Jim at Powerzed. I have had a fully forged engine with bigger turbos, injectors etc along with other works that I added to. I am (as always) amazed at the quality of work and customer service that I have received form Jim. communication all the way through the project has been spot on with regular updates and pictures along the way - attention detail like I have never experienced before and the after care is superb. I drove all the way back to devon on the Saturday - I had a running fault (and not as a result of the works) and Jim came to me very next day and sorted - a round trip of well over 200 miles and the sacrifice of his only day off - family in tow again supporting his moves. Everything all the way through has been excellent. No matter what my query (and sadly no matter how dumb) it is always answered. I have run 3 cars in my household for about 15 years and have never had this level of service in all that time - I cannot thanks Jim enough for all his hard work and commitment and enthusiasm with everything he does - absolute pleasure to deal with - a great big thank you too to Donna for supporting and giving the same great service - I cannot recommend them enough and well worth the travel for even the smallest of jobs - nice to know as well they do general every day motors as well - thanks once again will see you soon kind regards dave

Hi Mondo - it is indeed josh lakes engine - although no one has a copy of the dyno regards dave

Mapping and reliability ..........
cant agree more - sadly thought this was going to be a post to help others not fall foul of bad practice but it turned into a joke - suppose I have to take my chance when having my car mapped in the next few weeks - not really great if people are aware of issues - you cant feel that strongly if you sit back and allow these people to possibly damage cars while you do nothing - hypercritical to me
-
Mapping and reliability ..........
I have to say I agree totally. it is frustrating to here people who are enthusiastic and specialists who will not finish this and prevent others from falling foul of those who are or may be damaging members cars - I don't have a vast knowledge of these cars (or any for that matter) and therefore rely on members or traders for their input and recommendations with who to use and in which area. even if there is no solid proof and it is just someone's personal opinion or professional one at that surely it should be shared - I too have spent serious money on my zed through all stages and would be gutted if it went to someone who was not as reputable as I had thought. Perhaps some specific examples a should be given to help us decide - I know traders cant always get it right and things do go wrong but this latest investment for me will be about £10,000 to which I would be devastated if all went well on the build etc yet was damaged through poor mapping - more devastated if people knew full well about these people yet allowed us to give them our pride and joy. Know 100% the person who is working on the engine at present is absolutely spot on in everyway but would like to think as the car leaves him onto the next its in safe hands

are all dyno's equal
I don't believe so I believe it was run in then mapped but again will check - really appreciate the advice - many thanks

are all dyno's equal
thanks for the good advice - will speak to jimmer - sorry Stephen did not get your question on what I am running at present regards dave

are all dyno's equal
ok that's cool thanks for the info jeff - Is noel one that you would not recommend then as you say "have it checked" by someone else regards dave

are all dyno's equal
hi jeff my knowledge of these things are limited (very limited) and I suppose I am now confused - have I still got a potential issue even though its a relatively newly built engine??? as you can see from my history I am not on here an awful lot so I think I have missed something - is there something wrong with the setup or map carried out- would be extremely grateful if you could enlighten me regards dave

are all dyno's equal
Hi - there was nothing wrong with the engine at all at 621 - it was a project car that someone had all engine work done - full re-build etc previously by Jimmer low miles on that re-build - owner had done the engine first while looking for a better shell to drop into and finally when the shell came along he has moved on and lost interest in the project. Hi jeff - I had been following your thread and fully understand (I believe) I have not even got the car back or driven it yet so cannot comment on how it drives - originally it was into Jimmer to rebuild and forge the my engine and while out add slight bigger turbos, injectors and engine loom with a target of about 500bhp - only a rough figure that would I thought be achievable and drive well - my remit all the way through is that it has to be smooth running and be good as a daily driver as well - the cost of the original works was comparable with what I have paid for the doner and have been guided that it was a good way to go - I have had the car for 12 years and you have yourself worked on it several times with the ecu upgrade and boost jets which it ran for many years - then uprated clutch - injector fault and timing belt change amongst other things. - I think if it was me that was jumping up and down and insisting on higher and higher bhp then I would fit into your thread but this is what the engine is already running. The car was running about 350bhp and felt quick enough but was always concerned that it was running at max for stock injectors so would like it to run without being maxed out - I suppose for me is that if it does not drive well enough as a daily driver then I can consider reducing power (is that correct) - I suppose for me although I am not that interested in higher bhp I also don't want to come across to peers that I have spent thousands on this project and "Don't know" its output. I suppose sadly every car that is manufactured and spoken about bhp seems to be up there in the statistic that they all declare first (manufacturers included) regards dave
-
are all dyno's equal
thanks for the reply - I agree on the farce side of things. I am sadly surrounded by people that believe the bhp is the be all and end all - the car has been away since jan 1st having mods to body work now the engine the first thing I will be asked is the BHP - it was mapped by noel (as previously stated) with an output of 621 I know really it comes down to driveability rather than output but I can here these idiots in my head already.

are all dyno's equal
Hi - my zed is in the great hands of jimmer at the minute replacing the engine with a doner - the engine is complete with all injectors, turbos, exhaust, nistune ecu and smic. The car was mapped not long back by Noel. I don't have the dyno run for it for the time of mapping so just wanted a power run to give the power output once completed. There is a place in devon that does rolling road tuning and power runs but have not had a good experience there before and don't think they know the zx that well - if I just wanted a power run could they mess this up - don't want them tinkering once jammer has worked on it - long winded I know but are all dyno done the same i.e would garage here follow same procedure and get the same output as another garage - hop this makes some sense regards dave

Big Thanks To Jimer
I have just had the pleasure in collecting my zed up from Jimmer at powerzed toady. it had all the suspension changed and full big brakes set up - service, mot and ebc fitted plus a host of jobs that he picked up on that would have caused issues in the future. I have to say I am well pleased with everything Jim has done - it is by far the best service I have ever received in my life - communication and attention to details was outstanding - pictures taken at various stages - The car drove better than it has ever before. Would recommend Powerzed to everyone - well worth the 2 hour drive each way. Many thanks Jim for all your hard work kindest regards dave

turbonoz
I think if they are starting to fail then a new pump is a must - it all sounds cool with others hitting over 400 something to look forward to - many thanks once again

turbonoz
Hi Jaffa and all many thanks for the response. Many thanks Noz for clarifying that - there is certainly no rush to have it done and I can happily wait till things calm down for you - it would be cool if you do move around and get to Bristol (when you are less hectic) I would be more than happy to bring it to you wherever. many thanks to all and will be in touch

turbonoz
Hi sayers I have gregs number and contacted him by email - very helpful but part of my confusion I think - I have read very informative posts by Noz indicating that with moderate upgrades exhaust- air filter- etc and with a good custom re-map (depending on the state of the engine) that 400bhp plus is not unheard of - greg had insisted that the standard injectors would max out and would not map past 360/370 bhp and to do this I would still need a different fuel pump - bypass a fuel controller - any more than this would require new injectors so I suppose which one is correct. I am not obsessing with bhp but have a dyno at 340 off an old ecu upgrade that was done at zedworld many moons ago - car in with jammer for new brakes and suspension and ebc so thought I would just sneak a bit more if any available - plan is still to have jammer rebuild engine and everything early next year so might just wait until then regards dave

turbonoz
hi strange question I know but is Noz still trading and mapping - I have tried emails, texts, phone and voicemail and private messages on here but never get a response - this is over a 3-4 weeks period - if not can anyone recommend someone else fro the re-mapping - I seem to get conflicting information regarding mapping expectations from some companies so bit confused to say the least now kind regards dave

Engine Problems and decision time
got the zed back yesterday - sad thing is they have given me an invoice to say that the bottom end big ends etc is goosed and is confirmed by absolutely no oil pressure - mechanic confirmed that it only knocks when first started for the first 2-3 seconds then is ok - (sounds like you were spot on z32bolt) - I have planned now to service it myself on Thursday - just checked oil level and reading hardly any on dip stick - topped up now I have oil pressure again - I know I am a dumbass for not checking oil but kind of thought they may have checked a few basics before writing the engine off - noz - many thanks for that - I had emailed you off the forum about bringing it to you for some tuning - I have auto tubs on there - I think I will talk to jimmer if he is about and get his opinion - if all is good then have it well serviced and then to noz for a new map etc - don't mind noz if you think I would benefit from some better airflow in before it comes to you many thanks all the replies - all very positive (I hope)

that's cool - will contact them and go from there many thanks

Engine Problems and decision time
hi, thanks steve the reply that sounds were I would like to be. z32 - so strange you ay that as I lay in bed last night and things did not add up - I had loads done at zedworld including 60000 mile service - new uprated clutch etc about 3000 miles ago - it only went it to this local garage (they are old school and do work on race and rally prepping older cars) as the zed was crabbing a bit and a full service - they said last night - we have not started to work on your car yet - but have noticed when moving it in and out of the garage that there was a feint knock and low oil pressure - I had put the oil pressure down to a crappy sensor as it was changed a while ago and was ok for a bit then went intermittent - I know the clutch makes a noise (like release bearing) when reversing - but mentioned this and the guy said yeah we noticed this and that's because the clutch is worn down to the rivets - so long story short - thuink will pick it up and walk away - car runs well - very powerful - no obvious noises and never lets me down - this is my money pit unfortunately and have spend about £8000 in the last few years on new leather - colour change service work and others so it wont be something I don't do I do want to go down the upgrade route and would love to know more - I would like to keep stock internals if possible but think perhaps have new wear and tear items such as rings and big ends etc when the time is right = what air mods are best to go for and am I right in saying that if the engine was out and internals renewed - would it be better/more airflow larger turbos and injectors and that would be safe to 500 bhp and a custom remap- not interested in too much more - also would need to think about larger brakes and suspension set up - million dollar question though -who can I trust for genuine help and advise in the south west - zedworld are excellent but just too far away - I know the remap can be done by noz - unfortunately I have found garages locally not to be trusted (unless that's just me) - don't mind some travel obviously - very much appreciate the response

Engine Problems and decision time
Hi, I have just sent the zx in for a full service and check suspension - I had a call today saying that the is a feint knock at bottom end and they recommend re-build. Can the big ends be done with engine in or has it to come out - I suppose if it needs to come out then perhaps its time to have other work done - at the moment I have moderate upgrades - divorced downpipes - full stainless system - apexi air induction and ecu upgrade from zedworld several years ago- - have uprated clutch as well. Ideally I would love to be able to get more bHP without stressing the engine but not chasing mad power so I suppose 400-450 BHp max- I was toying with bigger turbos and bigger injectors and a re-map - what else would I need - and anyone have ideas of best places for parts - do I need side mount intercoolers and I suppose better brakes - what BHP with the stock engine mange without changing pistons etc - any help would be much appreciated - the garage say that the turbos are running at max and air etc the same - the garage has rolling road and it has currently 340BHP regards dave

finally got my car back
Hi, the retrim was done by a local company to me called "Concept Trimming" - they did go to town and rebuilt some of the foam etc but it came in more pricey than anticpated - they recovered the top of the door cards and the rear quarter trims in black vinyl everything else was done in russett red leather - re-trim all in was £3250. Yes it is a led for the alarm - car has been out of action since august having all the work done so plenty of gremlins when i got it back - the alarm was one of those so it will need a new one fitted in a month or so - i am very pleased with all of it and appreciate the kind comments regards dave
