Right. The shit has hit the fan in terms of life (don't worry i'm not looking for sympathy as everyone seems to be having a hard time of it at the moment)

I have no cash and the autobox has given up the ghost (out of nowhere wont shift above 2nd).

Its a UK spec tt with all the trimmings. Almost NO RUST, nice new expencive exhaust system, new filters, s/plugs, coilpack plugs, etc, etc. The enguin seems fine (broken dett sensor bypassed) with 110 000 on the clock.

It dose have a dented in passanger door and rear n/s wing is rippled from where i wedged my self between two saplings on a wet day but all cosmetic as there was no impact damage to anything (nice smooth slide between trees).

Now obviously this pobably worth next to nothing due to my over exuberance on a wet road even if i did fix the box. So basically by what means could i claw back as much money as possible?

many thanks, Jamie.

we all know zeds sell for peanuts. Id put the car in the garage until you can afford a manual conversion, or break the car youd probably make more money that way.

everyone's gonna hate me for saying it, but have you considered breaking the car?

I've got a vw golf that i'd put a fair bit of money into but then things when wrong.

I ended up breaking the car, and i've already seen back double what i spent on it and i've still got a fair few bits left to get rid of!

thanks for your replies.

#1 & 2. it would be an idea, but unfortunatly there isn't much prospect of me earning anything much beyond survival for the forseeable future so even if i didn't need the cash it would probably have become rust by the time i got a half decent job.

# 3. have thought about it as the most likly to get a return on but tbh wouldn't know where to start and i don't know that the likleyhood of selling something major then not be able to shift the rest and end up with an even more usless car.

pointers on breaking or any further solutions would be muchly appreciated, also would a specialist breaker of 300s be likley to offer me anything that wasn't amusing?

many thanks again, Jamie.

Has it got the leather interior?

thanks for your replies.

The reality in todays harsh economic climate is that your car is worth next to nothing as you said yourself in the opening post.

Breaking a 300ZX TT is a tedious and time consuming job that requires some heavy duty work and tools to do it with.

It will take the best part of a week on your own and you need a space as big as the car to put all the bits in. Then you need to consider how you are going to get rid of the shell. with scrap steel plummeting to £15/tonne not many people want to collect now for free.

What can you sell???

G box... Nope .its broke.

engine...probably not. at 111000 miles it will be well past its best and nobody is going to risk fitting a high miler given the cost of fitting.

Panels... nope... some you gave damaged and there is a surplus of panels out there anyway.

Interior? Only good leather sells. cloth /tweed is virtually worthless.

Std brakes and suspension fetch only modest money.

So whats left???

Nice exhaust, misc bits n bobs etc

Under a grand in sales for sure and a long time and loads of aggro selling/trying to sell the bits, wrapping them. arranging transport etc. And how do you value a week of your time???

Im sorry to sound depressing but it is the reality nowadays. Damaged/faulty cars aint worth fixing and they dont make much breaking. All IMHO of course but I do speak with a bit of experience

dogkrap. yes it has dark grey leather and alcantara. BUT the driver's side bolster is well worn.

Slick pete. thanks, a bit somber yes, but hit the nail on the head.

...still a bit puzzled as to what to do. It also seems a crime to scrap the shell of a uk car with so little rust. Looks like ill just have to bite the bullit and take the hit.

I dont think I'd agree with Slick Pete, I think breaking would get you a lot. Not an engine as a whole, but properly breaking it and putting each bit on ebay no reserve!

Plenum, cas, maf, ptu, tps, brake servo, brake calipers, exhaust, windscreen, other glass, interior, indicator stalks, dials, ecu, carpets, targas, radiator, intercoolers, alloys, spare wheel. those on their own should see at least £500 on ebay. Not a great deal but all come off easy and would be gone within the week. Then there are loads of other bits that will come off and see easy. Worth thinking about.

It could be checking the engine compression and power balance between cylinders if good and tbs are fine - may be worth finding a second hand box, I managed to get a good one for £200 (Must make sure it has a good torque converter as well)- and apparently it is an easyish job to do your self - however I got Zed World to do it for £250 - they did it in a morning. You could sell your new Zorst - put the standard one back on to contribute towards the cost of the new box - My Uk Zed has 125K and engine is running excellent although I have rust, i am tackling that during the winter.

HMMMM?! so confused.. i do appreciate the replys though, don't get me wrong!

any idea how much it is to recondition a box?

I had mine done in the summer - it came to a bit over £1200 with a replecement torque convertor.

I have to say, the chap who did it did an absolutely top notch job. He is well known and respected in the auto box business and really knows his stuff! Although I reckon Aylesbury is a bit too far for you, mate.

I hope you can get it sorted; it'd be a real shame for an otherwise decent UK spec to bite the dust.....

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Try giving Hypertech in Bonnybridge a call I think they have fitted a couple of second hand boxes for Dick300. At least they might be able to give you an idea of the labour cost then all you have to do is find a second hand one, try tttam he usaully has lots of stuff for sale. He might even offer you something for your 300!
