So who felt the Earth tremor?

Or was you lot sleeping through it? biggrin.gif

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2275158.stm

The UK has been hit by an earth tremor.

It affected parts of the West Midlands, Wales, North Yorkshire, London, and Wiltshire.

The tremor was felt at approximately 0100 BST.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The whole length of Wales was shaken and people over 120 miles apart felt two sudden shock waves

In south Wales, people in Cardiff, Newport, Caerphilly, the Vale of Glamorgan and as far west as Swansea, felt the powerful shock waves.

Callers to the BBC reported doors slamming and windows rattling.

Many miles further north, in Wrexham, officers from North Wales Police said their control room in a tower block shook violently.

Was watching Casino on Channel 4 and thought the house was gonna blow up or something - I live near Wrexham in North Wales.

Snap! Happily watching Casino..all of sudden the tv 'walks' around the living room and my sofa trapped me against the wall..It was a close thing! I'm down in High Wycombe, Bucks (so I thought it was someone blowing something up!)

Never felt a thing dearest... I've had better LMFAO biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Oh and I left the money on the bedside table biggrin.gif

I was happily in the land of nod when I was rudely awoken by the tremors. When I looked on the news this morning I was suprised to feel it as I am down in Bristol. That's over 90 miles away!

Not a bad one as far as earthquakes go ... brought back a lot of memories of when I used to live in Greece (loads of earthquakes every year). Seriously though, that was a big one and scared the sh*t out of us as you don't expect it here in the UK. Felt the aftershock a couple of hours later as well - at that time being much more prepared though ...

Wolverhampton was the epicentre of the quake.

Thats why it was bad for you.

For all the non sizmologists who may not know, epicentre is the place directly above the source of the quake. wink.gif Lesson over wink.gif

LMAO clearly this does nto happen often in this country lol, anything under 5 is not even considered an earthquake? some usless information for anyone who wants to know, but two NHRA drag cars pulling of together on full power registers a littel over 2 on the scale eek.gif

The Richter magnitude scale was developed in 1935 by Charles F. Richter of the California Institute of Technology as a mathematical device to compare the size of earthquakes. The magnitude of an earthquake is determined from the logarithm of the amplitude of waves recorded by seismographs. Adjustments are included for the variation in the distance between the various seismographs and the epicenter of the earthquakes. On the Richter Scale, magnitude is expressed in whole numbers and decimal fractions. For example, a magnitude 5.3 might be computed for a moderate earthquake, and a strong earthquake might be rated as magnitude 6.3. Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude; as an estimate of energy, each whole number step in the magnitude scale corresponds to the release of about 31 times more energy than the amount associated with the preceding whole number value.

Yeah, felt it here in Aylesbury, Bucks. Was as though someone had given my chair a good hard kick.

Stuart you are wrong, Dudley was the epicentre, and that is 10 or so miles from Wolverhampton.

Brick Kiln Lane was the exact epicentre, about 10 miles underground!!

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=390697&y=291069&z=1&sv=brick+kiln+lane&st=6&tl=BRICK+KILN+LANE,DUDLEY,WEST+MIDLANDS,DY3&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf

It measured 4.8 on the HOLY F*CK WHY IS THE HOUSE SHAKING? SCALE.

Rob thought we were being bombed by Iraq as we are less than 5 miles away from epicentre LOL

Can't remember - near the end - the film has so many things happen, that it's confusing enough, but think it was around the time that DeNiro finds his wife is sleeping with Joe Pesci ?

For a second I wondered if it was my huge Mission speakers throwing out deep bass from the film !!!! then I thought - had violent weather suddenly started up outsdie ?, but everywhere was calm.

Got back from 4 days in Amsterdam yesterday, and carried on toking through the night. Never felt a thing, but then again in that state the epicentre would have to be under my shoe for it to register.

Casino was a good film, but I saw 'Pussy Roulette' in Amsterdam and that was MUCH better!!!!! Some earth shakers in that one too!!!

Felt it here in leicestershire. thought it was a really heavy train going past the window as we live right next to the track. Heard it, rolled back over and went off to sleep.

No I was awake then and I didnt feel a thing. Actually I asked a few people in Wigan and they all felt nothing.

I felt in Milton Keynes but it was not bad, a bit like a heavy lorry passing a house near a road for about 1.5 secs.

By the way why are so many poeple still awake at 1pm smile.gif

Get this i was reading a new scientist mag, an article about earthquakes, turn the light out flopped into bed and then EARTHQUAKE! Spooky...

Barry

Hey hey, was just round the corner from me. eek.gif When it woke me my first thought was "who the hell turned on my speaker system!" When my brain woke up just had to look out the window to see that my 'baby' was ok and then check that no liquor had fallen off the shelves. Whew, no worries, back to happy zzzz land. wink.gif
