OK chaps / chapesses, you know how sometimes really unimportant things nag away until you ask really dumb questions. Well here's one which probably only matters to about 3 people on the planet.

Wishbone Ash (still going) has a great guitarist - Andy Powell - whose trademark is a Gibson Flying V.

Ash (as just appeared on TOTP) appears to be a young person's beat combo with a guitarist who is only the third person I have ever seen with a Flying V.

1) is there a connection?

Before you ask, the second person I ever saw with a Flying V is our own - our very own... rock_star! http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/ubbforum/Forum1/HTML/009254.html (sig shows a dodgy hair cut but I'm reasonably certain that's a flying V)

2) is there a connection?

Well there you go - that's what you get for allowing people who did teenage stuff in the '70s into this young person's forum....

Yours, Gio "stuck in the '70s as shown by my sig"

Hendrix had one, but only played it in the studio, it had a Telecaster pickup as well as the humbuckers, that is the secret of sounding like the Hendrix album stuff.

I used to have an SG with the same set-up and so did (does?) Steve Miller.

set the pick-up nearest the fret board to max and cover with metalised tape, wire the tele pickup to cross over to it and there you are you too can do any thing from Electric Ladyland.

Hey guys, do you know I actually made a flying V guitar at school for my woodwork exam!, the other part of my woodwork exam was a stage monitor containing a 50w 12" speaker + 50w cone tweeter. sounded lovely by the way.

Have had several guitars over the years, never quite got on with fenders though unlike Mr Malmsteen and Miller as mentioned, the only 'decent' fender I played was a late 60's strat that looked 'well used' (worn to fVck) but sounded nice. The last guitar I bought was a Carvin from their showroom in Hollywood on sunset strip. Dont have any diggy photos to show at the mo' tho'.

Anyone want to buy a digitech RP5 multi effects unit ?

Flying-V players: Albert King (THE blues player); Did Kim Simmonds (Savoy Brown Blues Band) play one?

Hendrix played a white FV in a live US concert (can't remember which one) - a mate has the video.

Didn't the geezer in Rush (Geddy Lee?) build himself a flying W ?
