How hard is it to replace ?

I just got my first Zed at the weekend, blown autobox but the RAC brought it back the 448 miles

While i was down letting it run and inspecting it, the car filled with steam and the drivers footwell flooded, my first thought went to the heater matrix :smash:

Is this common ? or is there something else it is likely to be before i go wasting money on cash that could go towards the respray :hyper:

Christ, talk about unlucky! Heater matrix is a common failure I'm afraid. Whist some have managed to do a swap with the dash in-situ, others have said it ended up being easier to remove the dash.

yeh, It will be heater matrix Im afraid.

Depends how mechanically minded you are. It takes somebody experienced about 1-2hrs max, to remove old one and fit new one without removing main dash, but can take an entire weekend for somebody who's not experienced/skilled and wants to remove entire dash to give them more room.

Buy new, not 2nd hand.

i knew about the box, was the reason the car only cost me 800 quid, with 10 months mot and 2 months tax, and a huge folder of receipts

It does need a little work, but the engine is solid sounding with no smoke or rattles, and also has a performance exhaust on it from the car back.

Bargain IMO

So i guess it will be the matrix, is there any links to guides ? or workshop manuals to work out if its worth booking into a garage to do or not

Check price with MJP (in traders section) or you can import from the states (courtesyparts.com, czp.us, z1motorsports.com)

It needs to be removed via the drivees footwell, so involves plenty of lieing upside down under the dash. If the car is a Manual its best to remove the clutch pedal box.

I think there is a guide on here somewhere for removing it, I've not looked to see if its for with or without dash remova. Its probably in the FAQ.
