Fitted a new OEM fuel filter today and, in reading from here that I was advised in taking the black plastic pipe out of the inlet port. I've fitted it to the new filter. But just wondering what the reason is for having it? Looks like it's some kind of fuel limiter or even a mini dampener? Is it essential?

Inside the fuel filter is a black plastic sleave inside the inlet. New OEM filters don't have this, you pull the old one out of your current filter and insert it into the new filter.

think i read somwhere about this needs to be put back in otherwise fuel bypasses the filter or something and goes straight through. Don't qoute me I might be talkin crap

Mmmmm, don't think it's listed on EPC or microfiche because of that reason. It's something you need to retain as it's unavailable.

Just trying to work out what it's for.

I know what you mean...dont know the answer though LOL. You can best that most Zed's out there will be running around without it after changing fuel filters though.

.....how many people actually change their fuel filters? Not something I see get a price request off MPJ all that often.

Good point, Im sure not everybody has but then its the sort of item you would get local instead I would imagine, like most oil filters.

I changed mine a few months back for a new Nissan one, didnt see any different to the previous but its a clean new one. Does that mean in the past it should of had one????????????????????

I changed my fuel filter. Didnt know anything about this part your on about. Never noticed anything different when driving.

i have changed the fuel filter twice now on mine!(i know i probably didnt need too) i didnt put it in the first time but found it in the garage when i fitted the second one. never noticed any difference with or without tbh.

it could possibly be so you dont damage the thin wall on the tube by overtightening???

it's one of those things on the Zed nobody really knows what it's for.....except Nissan (I think)

all Z32's came with it originally and if you still find the restrictor in the filter, there's a good chance the filter has never been replaced since the car came out of the factory.

The restrictor probably has something to do with the flow through the filter itself:

because of the restrictor, fuel will flow slower through the filter, so it filters slightly better...but that's only a theory

it won't make any difference if you leave it in or not...most throw it away when replacing the filter.

This looks like a sleeve to protect the filter from absorbing moisture post production whilst it lies unused in the box? If it was left in fuel will flow straight through? therefore it might improve flow, except for the fact the fuel wont be filtered??
