Hello.

My oil pressure is sitting around 2psi

Anyways, i informed the guy of my oil pressure sitting kind of low and he said he would flush through my engine on the service then check it again after putting new oil in it. Said if it was still low i will need to get a new oil pump which will cost around 400 supplied and fitted, kind of took this as a shock:nelson::cry:.lol.

Was wondering what you guys thought about this and any similar problems that use have had?

Cheers :nana2:

Standard Gauge ? Its notoriously innaccurate and reads low becuase the oil pressure switch hole gets blocked up.

for that price it is all new filters, new spark plugs, oil change.

So would it be a good idea to ask him to check the oil pressure witch hole to see if its blocked, is it possible to check that?

cheers lads

I found my actual sender unit was broken. I repaired it and it all worked fine after. But still had an aftermarket gauge as well.

also, I replaced my oil pump for other reasons, cost me about £140 for the pump from the states. In the UK it was around £180 and it took me 12 hours to fit with the engine in. Nightmare of a job.

So you getting all that above supplied and fitted for 110 quid ? if so your either getting parts at trade and free fitting or he ain't an idea on parts prices and working on a zed, yikes!!

Id dont see how it means the pump is at fault if you do really have low oil pressure. The pressure in an engine is kept by the close fitting of journals to their bearings.if the journal to bearing clearance is high then you will lose pressure.Pumps seldom fail in my experience.

i was quoted 250 by nissan and that was with 10% disc

so it's a cheap price but as said i'd certainly want to know where the parts where from etc and how many z's he has worked on

i admit i use a local garage (but the head mechanic has worked for nissan and toyota) so he knows is z's v well

and i always provide the parts ;)

the garage is in greenock fast fix autos and they are recommended, have worked on a good few 300zx's. I was quoted 140 from garages in paisley and glasgow for a full service aswell so am guessing i am getting pritty good prices then.

Was just wondering what you meant by the journal to bearing clearence being high?

want to goto the garage with as much knowledge as i can so i dont get ripped off.lol

Worn Big and/or Main Bearings. (the crankshaft bearings and Rod bearings).

Most likely reason is innaccurate Oil pressure gauge though, very common.

If your oil pressure really is only 2 psi your engine will already have fallen apart.

What signs, noises is there to look out for from faults of low oil pressure? do you know? Just so i can check to ensure that there would just be a faulty gauge or a blocked outlet pipe.

Yes, as above, just go and and start it up, I will listen from here. Lol.

On a serious note, 2 psi is no where near enough, your engine will wreck itself in just a few minutes. So if it has not wrecked itself, you have more pressure.

ok, cheers mate:D everything seems ok the now but still worth getting a quick check done on it.

cheers lads

if you have 2 psi oil pressure on idle first thing will give it away is tappets become noisy then the gauge might just be reading correct hopefully not....:(

Stock gauge is'nt detailed enough to show 2psi. I presume you mean its pointing at 2 on the stock gauge ? which is in kg/cm^2 .

Good point!

That would work out to be around 30psi which is ok for tickover.

yeah sorry, its pointing at 2 on the gauge. So is that ok then, thats a healthy state for the car?

Yes that's perfect! :duffer:

ok cheers lads:D Forum is a great help:D!

the gauge is kg/cm2 on mines, does anyone know what 2kg/cm2, as showing on my gauge is in PSI?
