The previous owner had no issues for 5 years, I buy it and im lucky if I can get a weeks trouble free motoring!

My car is ticking over between 750 and 1500 (when cold & if I boot it hard) but normally sits at about 900.

This only started a couple of days ago totally randomly. It use to sit at 750 all the time which is normal.

Iv cleaned out my throttle bodies, cleaned all the relevant connectors and checked for loose wires.

Iv fiddled with the EIC unit next to the throttle body but no luck there.

Iv read the FAQ on Idling but what are we thinking??

Hello mate try a diagnostic test on your ECU I had similar problems and found it to be the MAF sensor.

great stuff, il give it a clean 1st and see if that sorts it, good old WD40 to the rescue again

I dont think your surpose to use WD, i think it should be carb or brake cleaner but i could be wrong. Do a search :)

cheers, did you replace yours or did you clean it?

I had to replace mine cost me £90 from Paul at SWZ.

Iv bought some electrical contact cleaner so hopefully this should do the job, failing that if the symptems i mentioned are to do with a failed maf sensor il be buying one, hope its this simple!

before you start messing with idle ajustments you need to find the reason its starting to idle faster..ile give you a few pointers to check 1st

1...temp sensor connectors are not corroded or dirty, this is the bigger of the pair that goes to the ecu or its even a better bet to buy a new one and a little hint is a nissan micra will fit aswell

2...check for air leaks in the induction, the same check as a boost leak but your looking for a vacume leak on idle as opposed to a boost leak,i normaly check all clips around boost pipes and then with engine on idle spray WD40 around all pipes joints including around throttle bodies and iff the revs increase then thats the offending joint

3...you must check the 2 little elbo pipes that come from crankcase breather system..as you look at the engine they are next to the throttle bodies and iff these have worked loose they can cause the throttle to stick open...heres a link to check that http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=55080&highlight=throttle+stuck+open

4...long shot but check your inter-coolers arnt split, low boost would indicate this anyway

other peeps might want to add here for a feww more pointers before you start changing base settings and end up chasing your own tail...hope this helps;)

UPDATE,

Cleaned the maf which made no difference.

Checked all above, all seems ok.

Im going to buy a inline resistor and bypass the maf and if that sorts it then its a new maf I need.

After a drive around last night It turns out that when its cold it idels at about 950 but as soon as the engine is warn (10-15 mins of driving) its just sits at 1500 no matter what you do, even if I turn the engine off and on again it still sits at 1500????

Im starting to lose the will to live!

you might have a boost leak, that was my problem when i had idle problems.
