Alright chaps just a quick one, wanted to get a rough idea of the difference in economy and performance between the auto and manual non-turbo. I've always been told autos drink more so is this the case and if so how much difference is it. And again performance wise as well..

golden rule... never buy zeds for their fuel economy :D

anywhere between 15mpg-30mpg basically

autos quicker in a straight line thrash...manuals better in the twisty's

I'd disagree, while TT auto vs TT Manual performance is debatable, the NA Auto definatly slower in all areas than a NA Manual.

Cant give figures for performance difference, but side by side in a straight line race the NA manual definatly pulls away from the Auto.

I've had both and can't tell them apart on fuel but the auto is shit to drive fast on country lanes. It's always changing gear when I don't want it to!.

well you have the edge on me in the manual n/a test mate...never owned that variant...but it must be very slight as the n/a auto i got pulls like a train

now TT man v auto...no debate its auto....:D

LMAO, we have a joker on the team!! :slap:

after owning both mate the manual was so much more fun, the auto was fine most of the time although it did tend to shift up or down right when i didnt want it to but the rush you get from a full boost kickdown was addictive, and a lot easier to live with in stop start traffic! manuals sound a lot better too, the auto's tend to drone... i bought my auto because it was the only bayside blue one to come up for long time and that was the colour i wanted for my next TT after owning a red manual and selling it to a mate then regretting it straight away! Never got round to the conversion before a little one was on the way and i had to get some money together to fund a few home improvements... bye bye zed.

Personally if i was going to buy another, and im thinking of doing it for next spring, i would 100 percent take the time to find a manual, or budget for a manual conversion if a completed auto project came up.

Best thing is to try both out for yourself if you can, it's all down to personal preference.

Performance differences are all relative anyway, as by now all engines will be giving out different power outputs from standard anyway, be that more or less regardless of transmission

all true fellas...but to be honest the stock tt auto beats the stock manual tt in a straight line i've owned both types and got a 2.5 mile dead straight test track outside the house the auto went to 100 quicker all the time...as to the corners the auto n/a i got is the most chuckable zed i've ever driven...select 2nd switch overdrive off foot down and flick between 2nd and 3rd all day all corners....fantastic fun very addictive...those who say autoboxes and corners dont work aint playing hard enough...:D

Right also while I'm here what would you say the difference is between the n/a and tt for economy, I know you all say economys not great on either which is fair enough BUT is there a big difference the turbo and non-turbo in terms of economy?

and is the tt a lot faster than the non turbo :) ta

Depends on what sort of driving you do. The NA is a couple of MPG more economical around town, but the TT is a couple of MPG more economical on motorway. The TT will use quite a bit more than the NA when thrashing it. Typically I would say an NA returns around 23-24mph avg, and a TT around 20-22mpg avg.

As for performance difference

TT

0-60mph is around 5.5 secs

0-100mph is around 14secs

Top speed about 175mph (unrestricted)

NA

0-60mph is around 7secs.

0-100mph is around 18secs

Top speed about 150mph (unrestricted)

TT is very tunable, pretty cheap to add an extra 60-80hp (drops nearly a second off the 0-60 and over 2 secs of the 0-100), and ofcourse ultimately able to give you some serious high HP if thats what your interested in.

NA is'nt particulaly tuneable, in comparison. But its engine is responsive and likes to rev. Its weighs less than the TT and sounds great. Many TT owners underestimate how much fun a good NA Manual can be.

I cannot see how an auto is quicker unless you are crap at changing gears.

I have come across 2 autos from a standstill and i pulled on both accounts. all cars were std except for the exhausts.

All depends on the cars condition, drivers reaction and skill etc.

The only real reason the auto is quicker off the mark is the fact that it can engage gear quicker than you can press the accelerator pedal and release the clutch. I am sure a good driver can get a manual to launch just as well as an auto.

Autos don't sound anywhere near as good. You don't get the rev-down burble with an auto, sounds a little, pensionerish when changing gears and, with a stock box, you have no engine braking. They are still great to drive, but it would be a manual for me all the way.

thats where the hold button comes in real handy. slam your foot down, it changes down then flip the hold and take your foot off - stays in gear and quite handy for windy roads.

i been thinking of putting the hold button on the steering wheel because i use it so often.

Auto's sap a lot of your power as well, so i cant see how can be quicker, as for driving there is no comparision. I think the Z auto box is awful myself.

ive had both on the same car as my auto box went bang as they do lol.

I have to say I would never go back to the auto if i could help it like
