Ok it has now come to the time that I really need to replace the tubs. I have someone in mind to do the work, because I have lack of time and space.

The question is what tubs to fit and where to purchase from, any comments would be welcome.

You need to be careful with tubs Alan so take some time to search the net before deciding. Speak to Jimmer as he has fitted loads now including my GT500's which I bought from Z1. You will have probably seen on here that one failed within a couple of weeks and less than 350 miles. It took a lot of work by Jimmer speaking to Russell who is the owner of Z1 to get them to send $500 over towards the cost of changing it. (They supplied a new turbo core under warranty). Peanuts in the scheme of things. The other thing you need to consider is if you increase the size / power of your turbos, which I did only by a little bit, you can max your injectors out which causes detonation which means you then have to up your injector size. I have Nismo 555's waiting to go in but of course it does not end there. I have had to get my ECU socketed and chipped to cope with the larger injectors. My advice is get them local, stay the same size, and perhaps have 360 deg bearings fitted.

good reply:bow:;)

JWT 530bb's, thats whats going in mine. Will have the car back soon, so I will let you know what they are like, it will only be running at around 15psi though, untill I get a boost controler.

What are your aims/goals Allan, in regards to performance wise over stock ? Taking into account cost of having to upgrade other parts too.

In case you don't know, stock injectors won't flow enough for 15 psi on jwt 530's, 11 psi would be about the limit.

They will live and learn Mark, that changing turbos is not as straightforward as it seems.

I havnt just changed the tubs, got nismo 555 injectors, intercoolers chip exhaust etc etc, I thought upgrading the tubs for more boost would mean you must change injector size.

I have had thousands of pounds spent on my engine inc rebuild using forged parts and all the necessary items to cope with the extra power. I suppose I have already lived and learned that when you want more power, these cars become very expensive lol, but worth every penny.

Sadly they are expensive to maintain / modify but very rewarding afterwards and they don't take problems like overheating well either. The bases of the thread is about changing turbos, and I think that people need to be aware that if you upgrade them, other components will need upgrading, i.e., injectors, ECU chip and in some cases your head gasket. If you start upping your boost as a result of fitting larger turbos, standard head gaskets have been known to fail. You sound as though you done it right. have you had a different chip fitted in your ECU to cope with the 555's.

Well that's a can of worms...

I thought standard injectors will cope with 14psi??

With bigger turbos they will give you cooler air at the same psi, which means it contains more O2 this means it needs more fuel to not run lean. Also larger turbos will run higher boost at higher rpm, meaning more fuel required, 15psi at 6000 rpm needs more fuel than 15psi at 5000rpm, if you get my drift:)

Z Tech ( where my car is at the momment )has the software to remap the ecu to cope with the bigger injectors, it will be running with boost jets for now which will be around 15psi, I will be looking at getting a boost controler in the near future and running them at around 22psi on the highest setting, then he would reccomend getting a upgraded chip.

Are you really sure about them having the ability to remap your ECU mate ? plus if so, you wouldn't need an upgraded chip in the future, once the ECU is remapped, it's erm remapped!

Just buy a chip now and be done with it ;)

I only know off one garage and John Dixon who can re map the Nissan ECU.

I suspect they just have a "copy" of the JWT chip for 370cc and 555cc and they just burn them onto blank chips as and when needed with one of those little DIY Eprom burners. Thats what Ztech always used to do anyway.

Ah gotcha Dave, doesn't sound quite as posh or technical then as "we can re map your ECU" :D

BTW, Risingsun performance in Hampshire the Skyline tuners are the only garage i know who can remap a stock Nissan ECU ;)

Thanks for the replying to my questions but I was looking for someone to suggest some suppliers so I can start compairing prices and upgrades. I have done US suppliers on the net but there seems to be no Uk options.

Speak to topless - he used to do a really good deal and might know where you can get similar done.

Hi Allan, for years i've always favoured Turbo Dynamics for turbos. The guys there really know Zeds too. A simple stage 1 turbo if your not going for the high horse power malarky.

They ain't the cheapest company on the market, however great customer service, good turbo's and with stagger gap seals as standard!

I used to supply them for about 5 years and was totally happy ;)

Cheers

Jimmer uses Turbo Dynamics and has never had any probs.

Turbo dynamics do a good turbo, they sell the GT25r which is the same turbo as JWT 530, my only issue with TD is the silicon intake hose they use, this runs too close to the exhaust manifold and will deteriorate. If they are used then wrap the exhaust manifold and the silicon hose as well, the 530s are machined to accept the oem intake pipe.

Have spoken with Turbo Dynamics and Owen Devolpments (Main Garret Importor) and the stock turbo is no longer avalible:nono: Will have to fit a hybred or something will have to ring america and talk to z1. Would rather do the uk market but that seems not to be happening.
