did the glovebox and surrounding panals today but im going to wait till ive finished to take any more pics, the glovebox was really easy and came out great.

my 3 sqm of alcantara turned up the other day i shall be attempting mine soon, post any handy hints and tips

Cheers

Beermonster

Where did you buy the alcantara?

mike

Not doing the z, but so far i have recovered half the calibra door cards and recovered a 1/3 of the rear seat. Looking good so far, door cards are easy compared to recovering seats.

Why do you think I gave mine to a trim shop!? LOL I had to get my leather skin made up in panels as leather doesn't really have much 'give'. Even the trimmers said the Z32 is quite hard to trim if you're stitching everything on.

Yep. I've retrimmed 4 zed's myself now in either Vinyl or Leather and after the 4th one I finally realised that it does'nt matter how hard you try, you wont get it as good as a proper trimmer would. So I paid somebody to do the leather in my slicktop and very glad I did.

Yeh, it looks better than the original tweed, but the imperfections begin to annoy you.

I'd probably have a go with Alcantara though, looks a lot easier to get a good finish compared to Leather.

I'd go with alcantara with your colour. I thought about grey alcantara with mine, but thought that I really wanted the leather.

If I had a blue Z then without doubt I'd have alcantara.

Im using really warm cloth, and my god does black look good inside the car

Tips: stretch, everything before you measure, always leave a little slack over everyside, use a small blunt knife (im using one of those little nail cleaning things) to tuck in on the door cards where the material doesnt go over to the back and make sure you have a way of removing the glue before you start (very important)

But to be honest, as said above door cards and panals are easy so dont worry and give it a go

Ok, finished the front, just news a real good clean, ill be getting new seats about christmas time.

Please ignore the look that some panals are a different colour, its wierd and only shows up from the camera

what colour seats? red/blue or black alacantara? or black leatherette? noting the rear seats will be retrimmed the same colour and my gauges will be blue...

doing mine in a week or so.

how many square meters would cover all the panels? (door cards, front & rear parts, glovebox part etc)

2 be enough?

also when putting the glue on, what kind is best? and do you cover the entire section? or just here and there?

2 metres is definately enough, i used a roll of 1.2metre first and ran out and had to buy more :) and i used copydex glue which you brush on, its easy to manage but i spilt abit on the fabric and god pissed off, so then i swapped to some cheap spray adhesive from B&Q which is great but it sticks really fast so there wasn't much room for movement.

But note that you only use stapples on half of the door panals, no other panals so the glue has to stick, and when doing the doors i found there is a black padding behind the original tweed which can be retained.

And lastly on the doors take note that the top part of the fabric (where you put your elbow) doesn't fold over

only problem with spry adhesive is it can go tacky again with heat - so in summer you get bubbles/ wrinkles in the panel...

Pete

Can you describe the procedure for removing the door panels?

Mike

drivers door,

-Pop out handle surround

-Two screw under carpet covered bit inside door pull(handle)

-Two screws to left side of door panal

-Bolt at bottom of seatbelt (series 1)

-Screw on top small panal inside pop out gromit on outer side (window down)

-Undo power window clip and remove

-Bolt at top of seatbelt (series 1)

-Three screws at middle of seatbelt (plastic part 2 on inner edge)

-Pull door panal and it should pop off, dont forget to lift the top widow rubber out (dont yank)

-Slide seatbelt out of gap

-Hey Presto

Passenger side

Same except:

-Pop out two gromits on handle (one screw behind each)

-Pop out power window switch

I think thats it

NOTE : remember position of the washers on the seat belt bolts, especially the top mount which has a pop of plastic bit
