znut
the main thing is to make sure the pins go in straight and to remove use a couple of watch makers screw drivers and prise it out evenly on both sides:)

stenorth
are you sure our not frying the chips, need to ideally do electronic on a earth mat with an earth strap? Ignore me otherwise :p
Kaza Steve
when you are pulling the eeprom make sure you are earthed ..static is the biggest killer of silicone chips....and i dont mean earthed to the battery negative ...take a thin wire and attatch it to your wrist .....if you wear a metal watch thats agood place to connect the bare end of the wire.....the other end ( bare cores ) wrap around a big screwdriver shaft and stick it in the garden ..... mtl
On a side note if you are gonna change chips in your ecu a lot i would recomend fitting a ZIF socket, makes changing a chip easy as flicking a leaver and lifting out.

dunk300zxtt
ZIF=Zero Insertion Force It's a type of socket that accepts a chip. You solder the socket to the board but just press the chip into this 'device' no soldering required to the chip. HTH dude.
