hi, im thinking about getting myself a 300zx as a everyday car and was just after some information about them.

as my dayly drive to work is all motorway what type of mpg can i see from the auto non turbo? im not worryed about fuel when i put my foot down but as i will mostly be doing motorway miles i wont be seeing much speed over 70.

also for good mpg am i better off going for the auto? there seems to be more for sale than the manal, i did read that the ealy autos are naff, again as i wont be driving hard should i worry about this?

can i pick up a ok model for under £1000? i understand i wont get a great condtion one for that type of money but like everyone i want as much as poss for as little as poss, will i be asking for trubble spending so little for one. im not too worryed about genral old age as long as i have trubble free motoring.

thanks

Hello and welcome..

Not sure on picking up a car for under a grand.... probably something not right with it. Not just anyone (who appreciates and has a decent healthy car) will let go of their car for under a grand... just my thoughts anyway :) Am sure someone will pop along and give you some advice :)

you would be better off paying more for one than under a k, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for

oh and welcome

The 300zx is generally a reliable car n/a seems to be slightly more reliable than turbo but dont let that put u of a tub in the future there gr8 cars but not the easiest to work on or source parts for so make sure u buy a decent one i would look to pay at least £1,500 for a half decent early n/a but with the-

(c ,crunch) u might get that down a bit

there are loads of threads on ere with buying guides etc with lots of handy hints check out through the search box bud

and if u want z32 advice and help this is definetly the place to be

ps i have a early n/a (non turbo) auto and runs well with no issues

oh and welcome to the club m8 :D:D

i was getting low 30's mpg out of my gti6/406 coupe/cougar when on my motorway run and low 20's when i put my foot down, could i get around the low 30's out of a 300zx?

Think I remember someone once saying typical average MPG is anything low 20's for a 300

n/a yes u will prob see very early 30's on a motorway when cruizing / round town it's more like 18 mpg or as i like to say spg (smiles per gallon)

the second one 1992 on piston heads seems interesting and is low miles

you got pm! (sorry for hijack :D )

The TT will give better MPG for motorway cruising due to different gearing, although the NA is noticebly more reliable, especially in your price range, you will see 20ish MPG from an NA at 70 mph.

Ive run a N/A auto for the last 8 years, very reliable and if you keep off the kick down it aint to bad on fuel especialy on a run (sometimes its nice to make it uneconomical;):D)

If you need anymore info just ask

:Don a recent trip to cornwall we did 530 miles wich cost about £80, but i cant help but use the kick down lol.

When i was doing full tank Motorway miles averaging 80-90mph (was in EU) i worked out 22mpg and thats on a TT not that i think it make huge difference on motorway as wasnt boosting often :) Hope this helps your decision!

thanks for all you help, to be fair i think the 300zx is the wrong car for me, i will be more worryed about how much fuel im using than how to injoy the drive.

i think im going to stick with my french tin cans for now.

once again thanks for your help :)

You will most likely get an absolute turd for under £1k. Bargains CAN be had though, but personally, I'd never look at Zs for those sorts of prices. Zs make VERY expensive DDs and if you've only got 1k to spend on purchasing one..........Good luck in your hunt Z though. :)

i had a gti6 before i got my 300zx.. and to give you a comparrison.. driving normally i probably use as much in the 300 as i used to driving the gti6 hard through the gears

If you're worried about fuel, maintenance bills and only want to spend a grand I'd stay well clear fella, a Zed is not the car for you.
