Door Lock Barrel!!??!!!!!!!!! !!!!

OK so i have put some lovely little signs in my rear quarter windows each saying FOR SALE! I didnt think the car would appretiate this so when i put my key into the door to lock it the Lock barrel has gone!!!!!

Thats right i dont know how or why but i cant lock my drivers door, so the missus has the lovely job of locking mine then getting out and i then lock hers!

So wot can i do??!! I know one thing, get a new barrel, but does this mean i have to change the locks on all the doors glovebox boot etc??!!!!

Or is there a nice easy way to de-lock my car?? (Nice and Easy, yeah right)

Any info, help, or advise would be more than appretiated!!!!!

Thanks everyone.

yea thank you at least ill know how to get it off! but does this mean i am going to have to get a new lock cam? Never going to be able to sell it like this, but then again i dont really want to any way! lol.

How do you mean 'gone'? Has the lock been punched through and has fallen our or is it just a matter of not locking with the key?

the key goes in but just spins. As u tun the key there is no pressure at all.

Plastic clip connecting the barrel to the rod has probably snapped (mine did). You can replace it.

oh good! I hope it will be something as easy as that! where can you get one from presuming that it is this? lol

Oh right that. That's more of a common fault on Zs that the turbos failing! LOL

What's probably happened is that the plastic rod retainer has broken so that when you turn the key, the rod just swings and doesn't connect to the latch mechanism. Retainer/clip in most models is made of plastic and just goes brittle over time resulting in the problem you're having.

Now, Nissan did make some design changes to it, but it never seems year specific. I've seen early and late models with plastic retainers. Maybe it was a dealer-fit call back, I dunno, anyway, you can get metal replacements if you keep your eye open.

You can't buy them new, well you can, but you need to buy the complete lock assembly from memory.

Again, pop off the door card and you should see it just below the barrel.

ok cool, is there a simple way of quickly getting the door card off?

The small plastic section that has been mentioned is common to fail, the part is NOT available on its own as previously mentioned only with a complete barrel, now you could stump up the £50+ cost and just use the plastic bit and that way retain the same key OR be clever and use the one from your passenger barrel! it is handed but with 10 seconds with a file it will fit just fine.

same thing happened to my lock two weeks ago plastic clip had snapped, took door card of and unbolted door handel, broken clip was set in araldite glue with a steel washer on it replaced all items and oiled the moving parts.Lock has been great since but I warn you know it is very hard to get at and took me two evenings to dismantel glue overnight and put back together. this thread should help good luck.
