hey all just recieved a 1meg resistor from sussex_stu! (cheers mate!) .. have temp plugged it in and disconected battery... hopefully this shud solve my code 34!

only thing im a bit worried about is .. no matter how much i looked at the photos in posts/write up of how to do it i couldnt be sure which side is going to the ecu as both mine seem to be going down the back of the engine and both have the same wires! crazy... i have plugged it into the side that i could.. as apposed to the side that plugs in to the other plug (if that makes any sense) as from what i can see that goes into a sort of hose along with the wires from the other plugs.. (im not technically minded really im afraid!)

is this the right side? cheers!

Not quite sure what you mean there, but you can also do it at the ECU as that avoids the problem being a break in the wiring loom before the plug in the engine bay.

yeah i can see it was confusing lol.. all im trying to figure out is .. the ends (ecu end and det sensor end) which one goes to the ecu the one with the 2 spades that plug into the other side or the other side which the spades plug into.. urrr if you where looking at a lamp socket for instance.. is it the plug side or the plug socket side? that make it clearer :S? cheers for ecu side advice but i really think that is a bit above my knowledge and i wouldnt want to mess the whole ecu up!

normally "live" plugs as in the ecu end are female fittings

thanks glad u got my drift :P well looks like i have plugged it to the right side then.. got about 15 mins till i can reconect the battery .. then we will see if i get code 55 (fingers crossed)

nope, still code 34 :-/ .. now trying other side of plug just incase but.. im not holding my breath :-/

as said - use the resistors on the relevant wires from ecu... the code just means theres a fault in the circuit so could be a broken wire anwhere...

One thing to check is the det plug and the plug to the variable valve timing solenoid are the same and can get mixed up, this often leads to a code 34 itself.

Check the cable colours, you looking for a black and white wire, the white wire will not look bright white though more cream coloured.

Also after fitting the resister in the "female" connector do not plug the original connector in as well as this will cause the fault if you det sensor or lead has failed.

If after all this the fault is still there, then it is could be a cable fault and fitting the sensor at the ecu end will solve it for sure.

just checked the 3 options i have one i ruled out straight away. the other options are a murky brown and black one (i assumed was the correct one) or a red white and black one.. assuming this is def not the right one.. so looks like it could be fecked

One of the plugs has 3 cable into it as it is an 02 sensor ignore that and check the cable colours on the twin cable connectors only, your looking for the white and black cables, they should follow through in colour to the det sensor too.

If you end up having to connect it at the ecu, it is located in the passenger footwell, you earth one side of the resister and connect the other to the det sensor connection, cutting the single wire so any loom problems are irradicated.

If you get stuck I can post a diagram/ photo for you.

Yes the murkey brown one was once white.

then i guess its ecu side ill have to do.. as that was the one i originally did it 2 .. :( .. if you could post a pic/ diagram then that would be great :) hopefully i wont balls this up.. as i really would not like to cut the wrong wire!

cheers?!

cheers mate, i did think about it but it was getting dark and didnt wanna disturb u for no reason! gotta do it at the ecu end now... as it seems somewhere between the plug and the ecu is knackerd.. had a look at the pin out diagram and i should be ok with it! if not you got any experience with this side?
