:)Hi, does anyone have a spare battery retaining clip/clamp/rods....whatever they are called. My bat is a bit loose without it and I have been informed may be a point for an MOT failure.

Featured Replies

i doubt it will fail on that but worth getting all the same, halfords sell a battery strap if you have no luck

Any MOTer with a brain, will fail a vehicle with nothing to secure the battery! It is their living!!!

If the tester fails it for an insecure battery, he wont be making his living from testing too long :). It aint part of the test!

He should of course advise on it as in the event of an accident it could dislodge, short out an cause a fire.

The police on the other hand are likely to issue a vehicle rectification notice if you happen to be unlucky enough to be stopped

mines hasnt got the clamp in it but i do have the battery from my bmw in it and its hard enough to get it in and out as it is alot bigger than normal.

hi sonic

if you get no joy getting a batt clamp, i can make you one in the shape of "Z" from brushed aluminium.

but that is only the top part, no rods, tray,or bolts.

HTH

alan.

needs to be secured,

mine wasnt done up tight, when used to drive, the terminals used to fall off.

even after doing them very tight.

Hi Alan,

I have one I got from Halfords, but your sounds so much nicer. The one I got has holes each end that a threaded (long) bolt goes through and has two small wing nuts to make it tight. Would the Z shape take those long bolts?

hi barry

mine uses the long threaded bolts with either nuts or wing nuts, whatever you have. its an aluminium "Z" with 2 holes in that pick up the long threaded bolts.

i will try and take a pic 2morrow so u can c what it looks like.

hi barry

ok, i have a new lap top and have not downloaded the software for my camera, so cannot take a pic, sorry.

if you have looked at the "z centre" batt clamp and you like it, i can make 1 for you. but it will be brushed aluminium not chrome.

also am very busy with my work load, so it might take a week or 2 to manufacture.

or , give me a few days to load my software and will take a pic and show you, either way i am happy to do this for you.

cheers mate

That looks scary, uninsulated earth across a stainless steel brace.
