WINDOWS XP IS SHíTE!

I have had a legal copy of Windows XP installed on my computer for a few months now. First of all, no Java working with IE6 because of legal issues this has been fixed in the 160mb Service Pack1, but now half of web pages dont work with ACTION CANCELED displaying where menus should be. This is not a Windows Explorer thing. I have installed Netscape and Opera to try and fix it, and it still shows ACTION CANCELED in the same places.

2nd I couldnt install the IE6 patch becuase I get an error every time I tried to run it.

EVERY game I have drops to the desk top after about 20mins, even though I have certified drivers for all the major hardware, Motherboads, USB, Graphics,Sound etc.

On add remove programs in control pannel, I am faced with thousands of patched installed for windows.

I cant update drivers to an older version. It just wont allow it. I have to uninstall the hardware, delete the drivers and delete the relivant ini file in the windows drivers directory.

My DVD player on my computer now keeps jumping and missing a few frames and I get green patches on the screen at times too.

When I put a CD in it doesnt update my computer to show this. Whats strange is, my computer shows nothing in drive E: even though there is a CD called "downloads" in I take it out close the CD draw and it shows up on screen with a CD called "Downloads" on. But no matter what CD I put in after that it still things is the first CD I put in. This means that with some CD's I have to reboot before it will work correctly.

It freezes on boot up sometimes. Doesnt shut down sometimes. For no reason my HDD will just start going mad for about 5 mins, even though I have the virus checker off and I am not defraging or scheduled anything to work. This usually makes my computer very very slow untill its finished.

Thier seems to be a critcal update every week. Win2000 only had critical ones once a month or so once you are up to date.

It was a waste of £70. Its a peice of shit. I install critial updates, which then cause my computer to crash. Whats all that about.

When I have time I am backing up and going back to Win2000.

People, if you are thinking about going to XP dont. Waste of money and effort.

Im sorry to hear u have had problems m8 ,

I use XP Pro and have had no problems at all, i know there is still some isues m8 but when i forst installed it u had some problems because i did the upgrade, then found out its better to do a full format and install fromfresh so i did this not been very happy at the time as i had lost a lot of work i hadnt backed up like a idiot, my advise is do a fresh install if you have not tried it m8

I totaly agree Mate,I bought the full Pro version. Its on my spare hard drive,I'm frightened to use it because a simple windows update causes it to crash and lock me out of windows so I have to call Microshite, the help file is Q269075.Is there a way I can demand my money back?I've paid a lot of money for an O.S. I can't use.

u can get your money back depending how long you have had it for m8 ,

Thing is they dont need to know u have it on a 2nd HD dont let em know, as they will prolly tell u its best to use only one OS ,

i now only use XP pro but i have 3 Hd's in my machine and have no more probs since i did a full install, and i find it better than win200 etc which i have at work id give it a fresh install 1st and if it dont work try and get ye money backfrom where ever u got it

I did do a fresh full install.

Brand new HDD, never used, I installed XP on it.

Makes me wonder how MS can release XP and as soon as you do you are downloading and installed close to 400-500mb of updates and patches. If I didnt have broad band I would have not chance.

Stuart

when did u buy it m8 was it as it was released ?

iv been using xp pro for ages now - duel boot with win2k server, never had a problem, its been the most stable os iv ever used!!

play games without any problem at all.

i too would do a fresh install, upgrading over older os's has never been M$'s strong point rolleyes.gif

did you fresh install??

I feel the need, the need for speed!

I am part of an IT support team and have never had any success with upgrading the OS. It's meuch easier to format the drive and do a clean install. I use XP Pro (not home) edition both at work and at home and have found this to be he best OS Microshaft have brought out. Also, when I installed service pack 1, all the hundreds of Windows updates I had in add/remove programs had gone. I agree that XP isn't 100% perfect but I don't think anything MS produce will be.

well spotted mate. smile.gif

As I said. It was a new HDD unused and was a full install.

I was impressed witht the speed it installed at, considering the humungus size a new installation takes, over 1gb, compaire that to Win95A which was 25mb wink.gif

Don't you mean all Windows versions are and have been shite bud???

I don't seem to recall there ever being as much shite going wrong with Mac OS 10 or any of the Mac OS's to be honest! wink.gif

Roll on the day I can junk that shitty crap top and stroll into PC World and buy my nice new iMac.

I was about to buy a copy of XP pro upgrade from Windows 98. Are there any issues with upgrade versions that require an O/S to already be installed on the hard disk?

Mike DO NOT BUT THE UPGRADE VERSION!!

its best to but the full OS allthought i know its a lot more, if u dont want to buy the full version m8 in my opinion win98 is the best op sys at the mo m8 stick with it, smile.gif

Upgrading any Windows OS never works, I only do fresh installs, as for it dropping back to the desktop with no errors, I had a similar problem when my motherboard was fooked!!!

Just make sure you have all the correct drivers.

You could always *upgrade* to Linux or buy a Mac, they never have problems ;P that's because you can buy about 10 applications for them. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

you know the saying "the worker always blames the tools"?? smile.gif i have never had any probs with xp at all. once you have all the updates its been the most stable system i have used yet.

LOL, It's true, you do have upgrade your MAC OS for a new application.

Mike

I rarely have problems with Windows. Right back from Win 3.1

One thing I do avoid is installing uncertified or obscure software as this 'can' really **** the system about.

As many others have said do a format c: and fresh install

Pete

ps try doing a FULL scandisk first and install a latest virus checker if you already haven't. Also try doing a system check, not sure what software to use, but it might just help. Dodgy RAM can also cause problems to the system... blah blah blah

Got XP PRO, did a fresh install on a re-formatted HD. Had a few problems with drivers but no major problems, and I'm not a techie.

As regards upgrades, aren't they the same programme but sold cheaper as you already have Win OS? An upgrade will always ask you to insert the previous edition to verify elegibility.

Good luck

We are one of the many beta sites worldwide for Microsoft platforms and applications eg. Gold Partner in Dev. If WinXP is installed on a clean system with good quality hardware and matched memory then it is stable and the best MS have ever produced. If run with crap applications with poor memory handling and stupid OS handles that corrupt the system core and are not synch'd correctly then it falls t*ts up and that is also true of the 300zxTT.

It ran fine when I first installed it. I thought it was great. It is not always posible to install certified drivers, because some things take years to certify by which time there is another version out.

My problems have only been recent. Sites not displaying, games dropping out, the CD's not recognised. It goes worse after all the up dates I installed. A few even contridict themselves. Once I installed on patch rebooted, then update said another was needed, installed and rebooted, and when I ran update again, the original patch came up. I installed them about 4 times before I quit. I know that this is not a common problem but its something to do with XP sending the wrong info to Update.

But the thing is I do install a lot of drivers and every PCI port is take up at the moment but the OS should be able to cope with that.

As for Win 3.1.1 It was great but I had problems with that. When its installed fresh it was great, like all windows. But after installing all the drivers and software, it would crash, not as often as it does not granted. Infact it hardly ever did crash.

The upgrade version does not require a previous O/S to be installed! It merely requires you to have the installation CD available. It will ask you to insert this part way through the installation to verify that you have purchased a previous O/S.

Installing over a previous O/S is definitely a bad move and causes no end of problems. Clean install is the best.

I started in computers back in 1980, and spent most of that time working as Technical Support. I have XP on my laptop & on my server. Best O/S so far - never had any problems with it. And yes, I play online games too...

Let me re-phrase that:

PC DOS I suppose if you hate Microsoft!

I liked MS DOS. Never had any problems except the Base Mem being eaten up. But Memmaker helped and if you had it Quemm.
