gutted - i got an email back from customer service and they inform me that they wouldn't recommend putting 265s on a 7.5J (wtf that means) - preferably only up to 235. i really want these wheels but dont want to downgrade my tyre width. ive done a bit of looking around the net for any answers, and have emailed a couple of wheel-dedicated websites to see what they think. i would have thought an 18" wheel was the same as any other 18" wheel in terms of width. i take it thats what this 7.5J means :(

7.5J? is that all they are? That's no wider than stock UK TT rear wheels. 7.5J basically means the wheel is 7.5" wide.

Look for another wheel manufacturer making the same style wheel. Rays/Volk do something similar.

thanks for that Si. i have to admit i agree with car.mad i dont really like those azevs. the nismo ones are close to what i want though. looks like i'll have to look around again, and no wonder the Inovits were so cheap (£600-£700 for 4) only being as wide as a biscuit :slap:

funny you mention those rays/volk Si cos the Inovits have an Inovit sticker on one side, and a Rays Engineering sticker on the other!!

Don't know much about Inovit, but if they are built by Rays, then they will be of good quality. Rays build a lot of wheels for Nissan. All the 350Z wheels are designed and built by them. But I'd steer clear from anything narrower than an 8.5" wide wheel, especially on the back. 9.5 is ideal for the back.

I used to have 3 peice Rays wheels on my Z before I got my Advans. Very good quality.

Extract from wikipedia:

Rays Engineering Co., Ltd. (株式会社レイズエンジニアリング, Kabushiki-gaisha Reizu Enjiniaringu?) is a high-end Japanese wheel manufacturer for both motorsport and street use, mostly notable for its Volk Racing brand of wheels. Like GReddy to Trust, it is a common misconception that Volk Racing is the parent company of Rays Engineering, purely as it is its most associated with brand name. Their wheels feature both high-tech forging and materials.

They are the current wheel suppliers to winning factory race teams of Nissan, Honda, Toyota, and Mazda in racing series such as Super GT, Japanese Touring Car Championship (JTCC), British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), Formula Nippon, and Formula One.

Their Volk Racing wheels are popular with owners of sport compact and import cars on the race and show circuits.

Rays Engineering also manufacture wheels for car manufacturers' in-house tuning teams such as Nismo, Ralliart, STi, Mazdaspeed and Toyota Racing Development and also supply wheels to Williams Formula One team[1] as well as the cars of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.[2]

Have you tried demontweaks?

they seem to have a good selection. i'll go through them over the weekend, cheers dude

i had to download a pic and upload it on photobucket just to get that pic in this thread so glad its been worth it.

I cannot reccommend demontweaks enough, excellent place, order a free catalogue. but beware if you go down to the place make sure you bring your wallet because you'll come out with more that you go for

Dave your only in Leicester, inovite is based in coventry so why buy them from a third party?

yeah i might have gone to see them if their wheels were wide enough but in the end i'll have to choose a similar style

Dave keep an eye out for a set of Used genuine Rays/Volk racing alloys. If needs be you could always get them refurbed and save yourself a fair amount compared to new.

7.5J? is that all they are? That's no wider than stock UK TT rear wheels. 7.5J basically means the wheel is 7.5" wide.

Its worse than that, UK rears are 8.5" - wider than these cheapie aftermarket copies.

Thats the UK Importer.

They are cheapie China/Taiwan/Korean manufactured wheels that unlike the wheels they copy are not manufacutured by forging, they are made using either gravity casting or low pressure casting techniques, which makes them weaker and heavier.

They look similar, but even the paint finish on them can not compare.

yeah ive got an ebay search setup which is supposed to email me when certain wheels come up for sale. there's some corking Nismo and Volk wheels up there at the moment but theyre going for £1500-£2000 :hurl: plus most of them are 19"

That's what you pay for quality forged mono-block wheels. As Dave has said, cheaper brands are cast. Unfortunately, the UK market is absolutely flooded with cheap cast wheels. Very little choice for the larger RWD cars unless you start importing wheels from the US or Japan. Forged mono-block or forged 2 and 3 piece wheels get expensive, but they are of good quality. Not as heavy, stronger and most of these tend to be build for higher end cars, so cater for the widths.

Most of the top-end forge multi-piece wheel manufacturers like BBS, Advan, Work etc will actually allow you to tailor make your own offset, PCD and width, giving you the ultimate package you desire.

Stance is all IMHO which is why you get cars with a stance as aggressive as this. A perfect stance can so 10fold for the car over any bodykit.

The JWT test car had Work Equip wheels with Jim Wolf’s offset spec. They crammed 9” wheels to the front and 10” to the rear tweaking the offset just right so that the edges of the wheels stuck right out into the arches.

Having the perfect stance is something I try and strive to get. Unfortunately, I’m doing it whilst trying to maintain the original arch lip without any rolling.
