easy job to change the pump, not much of the front of the engine will have to be stripped but the cam belt can stay put. just remove the alternator belt, viscus fan and clutch then the passanger side cam cover (someone correct me if im wrong) then you should be able to get to the pump. either use a paper gasket or most people tend to use liquid gasket ;)

Any idea how much the pumps and is this what you have to take off top and bottom hoses radiator cam covers aux belt viscus fan assy and which is better paper gasket or silicon if silicon what type eg instant gasket.

no need to take the top and bottom hoses of, you undo the bottom rad hose to drain but, its not worth it cos as soon as you split the pump from the block it will flod out anyway just take off the fan shroud (if fitted) the fan and clutch, the alternator belt then the passanger side cam cover. you should be able to get to all the water pump bolts after all that. i personallythink a gasket wins over liquid but its down to prefurance. if your going to order one, nissan do one for the Z31 which is the same and will only cost a few quid. have a word with Dannny at DTA (traders section) for price of pump

First check it isnt one of the two hoses to the heads that are just above the water pump and behind the top radiator hose connection. They are favourites to fail every few years and when leaking look exactly like its coming from the water pump. Obviously if the water pump bearing has gone you'll feel the play!

Get a genuine Nissan water pump. I've seen OEM and cheapo pattern waterpumps side by side and the veins/fins on it are much smaller and spaced further apart than on the stock ones. Last thing you want to do is skimp on the cooling system.

Genuine ones are about the £60 mark, so not epic money.

£38 sounds way too cheap, is it an OEM part? There was a post a while back about other makes of water pump that just weren't as good ;)

Not at that price. You can't even buy them from the states for that money.

And you must replace them anyway to be safe when you do the pump. :-)

If it was me I would replace the cam belt too as you are so close.....and taking the rad out all the way makes it easier, gives more room.

Regardless of what "brand" of water pump you get they will likely all be NPW pumps in the box, in my time in parts i have opened the boxes on QH, First Line, NPW, ADL Blueprint and genuine nissan 300zx water pumps and they ALL have NPW stamped into the housing, becouse they are about the only people who make it.

Nissan dont commission a factory to build water pumps for all their cars, their design people give their requirements to a manufacturer who does it for them, and after a few years Nissan's licence on the product lapses and the manufacturer is allowed to sell it on the aftermarket, then they are bought up by the aftermaket wholesalers like adl, qh fai etc, none of these companies manufacture them they just buy them in volume and brand box them and sell them on. And because the car is so neiche there is little point of anyone trying to copy it with, cos it probably not worth the tooling costs.

I know there are some cheap nasty aftermarket parts about, but on something as uncommon as a 300 water pump you cant really go wrong with any of the bigger names.

The casting is very different too, makes B19rks comments seem unlikely to be correct. No offence.

None taken, Dunno what that pump is that Jeff has got in that picture but ive got the picture of the Blue Print (ADN19135)one on my parts system and it has the same amount of teeth as the o.e one and has the grooves in exactly as o.e. I cant post the pic up as im not sub'd but if anyone want to post it up i can email it to them.

Ive had alot of dealings with bluprint over the years and struggle to belive thats one of their pumps.

Just sussed it, the one on the right is a fookin Z31 pump (ADN19112) and no wonder its not right, its the wrong fookin part!!!!!

I paid £38 for my water pump.

Lets hope its not a Z31 one!!!!

Do they fit a Z32 then? If so might be worth making it a Sticky to warn people.

Yep, all the bolt holes line up, as they are basically the same engine, it looks like they just modded the design a bit for the increased flow on the Z32.

I can put up all the aftermarket part numbers if that helps.
